So what's the difference between showing the future of the game, and telling us about it in a state-of-the-game update? Who's to say they wont be giving us Vibora Bay details? Screenshots? A trailer?

Our community is so quick to bash Cryptic for not giving us tangible evidence of their improved communication, and when they finally start making a real effort to improve, the bashing only seems to increase.

The last state-of-the-game update caused a massive uproar. This is the first one since then. You really think the same mistake will be made so quickly?

Were you not here for the last uproar?

Part of it was caused by Daeke referring to 2010 as "Legendary".
Note not the early 2010 update, just in general the 2010 future of CO.
Of course some people misconstrued his comments as indicating the early 2010 update was going to be Legendary, something I don't particularly blame players for.

Now after all of that Cryptic goes off and actually mentions "awesome" with respect to the next announcement.
How is that not making the same mistake?

For crying out loud just let the players decide if it's awesome or grrrrrreat! or legendary or l33t and just stick to giving us the info.

Personally, I found that uproar to be silly.

I dismissed what Daeke had said as a mis-use of words, and still I cannot understand how people got so bent out of shape over that minor issue.

Oh I did too.
I recall Daeke's comment about 2010 being legendary and I just dismissed it as a CM trying to hype up the community. A whole lot of people didn't take it that way though.

Now with all that's happened since then, regardless of it being silly or not, I would think Cryptic would have learned and steered clear of giving any more fodder for the community to blow up on.

Stick with the facts, let the players decide. We're long past believing anything that comes out of Cryptic, it's actions, not words now that players are looking for.

It's funny, Daeke is the one who created all the hype for the update, and now that he was (seemingly) fired for that very reason, the community mourns his loss. Calling a state of the game address "awesome" is perfectly justified because they give us a taste of where the game is headed, and I really doubt Cryptic is thick enough to repeat a mistake they made no more than 2 weeks ago. They saw the community's reaction, and have made significant headway in their communication with us since then. Because of that, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt with this upcoming address. It's your right to disagree with me if you want, but this is my opinion.

Eh, I'm still looking for words.

They're getting there, but they're not quite up to my expectations of better communication.

I still don't understand the difference between actions and words in regards to this situation. What are they supposed to do? Throw patches into the game without telling us what they're planning beforehand? This communication is the first step towards mending their relationship with us.

The difference being that you should be playing the game based on how much you enjoy the actual Live game, not on what they have promised. It is all too easy for them to mislead and spin things with words, so they no longer hold any weight with me anymore. With anything that they say they're going to do for the game, I'm willing to bet there is a way it could turn out worse than we expected. So I'm going to assume it will be worse until it is in the game and working the way I like it.
