Hard Crash: new system and has crashed progressively through all windows iterations .
10-28-2009, 03:42 AM
Sorry for the long titie.
Background: I recently bought a new rig (put it together myself) that isn't state of the art, but pretty darn good (attached my DXDIAG).
BIOS: BIOS Date: 05/19/09 12:44:57 Ver: 08.00.15
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
Memory: 6144MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 6136MB RAM
Page File: 2188MB used, 10079MB available
Windows Dir: C:\Windows
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
Graphics card: BFG NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285
NOTE: Nothing is overclocked FYI
It ought to be more than adequate to run CO (I run Wolfenstein, maxed settings all day long with nary a glitch)When I first got this system, I installed XP Pro: at maximum graphics settings, CO would regularly blue screen the rig 5-10 minutes into the game, WITHOUT fail. I tried scaling back the graphics, and found that CO is stable (but ugly) at Low settings, where I've been forced to play the game.
I read on the forums that XP has some issues with kernels (or whatever) so I decided to dual install Vista Home Premium. After the better part of the day of updating and loading, I booted up CO, at max, and within 10 minutes, CO locks up totally: the only plus side is that I can Task Manager out of it.
I'd been reporting and updating tickets with the Devs/ CS this whole time, and they came to the conclusion that the "extra" memory I had in my system (6GBs of RAM) were probably the cause, and they recommended that I play on scaled down settings until I could upgrade to a 64-bit OS (I had told them that I'd intended to do so).
Yesterday, I got my 7 Ultimate Full edition, clean installed it over the Vista partition, downloaded and installed the latest DirectX, NVIDIA drivers, and installed CO. I pumped the settings on the graphics slider all the way up, and logged into game. I was very impressed by the sound and fury (I'm easily entertained) and was about to sigh in relief when, yup, CO locks down, and I have to alt+ctrl+del out.
Anyone have any ideas what I should do? I've submitted ticket after ticket, given my info (DXDIAGs, preference files, dumps, albeit not for 7 yet) multiple times, and this game that I truly want to love continues to vex me!
I'd appreciate any suggestions and thanks for taking the time to read this. I don't intend any disrespect to the devs and CS that have tried to help me, but I figured it couldn't hurt to get this out to the public to see if anyone has a fix
Thanks!
EDIT: says my DXDIAG too big to attach so sorry about that

Implausible
Thanks for answering
1. DXDIAG attached
2. Yes, my 1TB drive has 2 partitions: the first one is the 7 OS, the second is XP Pro
3. When I installed 7 i did a full install, so I assume it wiped the partition
4. with Vista and 7, CO has frozen: with XP it BSODs. I was able to ctrl+alt+del out of CO crashes in Vista and 7
Hope that helps

I know this might seem like a pain in the backside but could you follow the instructions in the link below? This will provide us with a Kernel dump, and with this we might be able to find out what is causing your issue.

As I am able to alt+ctrl+del out of a hung CO now, I can't find any actual mem dump . . . should i just allow CO to actually crash out?

Implausible,
ok, here's the latest: it doesn't hard crash anymore since I installed 7; what happens now is every so often (i'd say anywhere from 3-5 minutes) the screen locks. I can hear the game still. I Alt+Del+Ctrl out, start Task Manager, clcik the Manager off, and am able to go back into the game, as if nothing happened. The times I have to do this seems to be getting quicker though, but no crash now. Just intermittent locks. Again, this is all at highest settings.
I am running the 190 series drivers at the behest of the in-game CS suggestions FYI
What now?

I can't locate the dump file, even after following the instructions :(
Its a crash even when I just ctrl+alt+del, and then alt+tab back into game?
