I'm not cancelling my subscription. I enjoy this game. I didn't enjoy this game last night, due to mobs 1shotting me (but that's fixed as far as I know). This is currently my favorite game. This is not a QQ thread.

Stop listening to all the complainers. All the people who cry and whine about changing every power they think is overpowered are all the people who continuously die in PvP because that's all they do. PvP. I happen to think all the power changes lately have balanced it a bit more, and I'm happy with them. But if you keep changing them to suit the PvP'ers needs, they will only complain about something new when you fix the first problems. The whiners are a plague murdering other games as well, such as WoW. Don't listen to what they want you to fix, listen to what YOU want you to fix. If they leave, let them. They'll leave eventually anyway due to you never being able to satisfy their needs. You'll get more subscribers if the game is enjoyable outside of PvP. And currently: it is enjoyable outside of PvP.

TL;DR: Don't listen to all the QQ, make Champions Online how you intended to make it, you won't lose money on them quitting.

Blog of a Cryptic employee. Unfortunately it seems they will be reading some of the QQ posts.

Wow, I'm not sure why the divide between PvPer and PvEer in this game is so wide and so vehement. Usually the carebears and PKs get along fairly well because they operate in diffrent domains, I guess it's just a function of this game having the PvP and PvE so similar.

In any case, yes they will loose money if the "PvPers" leave. They will loose money if any player leaves. PvP also suffers for PvE, for instance the Minimines nerf was mostly aimed at PvE, and the PvPers got shafted.

As for making the game the game how they want it, they invested alot of time making PvP, and since someone wasn't holding a gun to their head to do so, that only leaves the assumption that they wanted PvP to be an integral part of the game. With content as thin as it is, PvP is one of the few things that can maintain interest once you get past the "Wow, cool I can shoot lasers from my eyes".

Don't assume you speak for everyone, Don't assume the devs think like you want them to, and Don't assume your opinions resemble reality.

The minimines nerf was a direct pvp nerf. Every time I'd go into a battleground (hero game w/e) I would hear "This game should be called Minimines Online it's so overpowered QQQQQ". They will not lose money if PvPers leave, for every one person that quits because they don't get their way, 2 more join because the game is more enjoyable. It's simple economics.

I'm not saying take out PvP by any means. What I'm saying is, if Cryptic listens to all the QQ and changes everything based on what the players say, it will end up exactly how Age of Conan did. Game had a LOT of hype, looked very promising, the works. Game comes out and it's decently fun. Than comes the QQ, and Funcom changed the game around the QQ, and look how many people still play it. I don't want to see that happen to CO.

I leveled almost to 40 with just my energy builder, chainsaw, and minimines. After I got minimines, I basically just took chainsaw off my bar. I hit 1 button the whole game...

I'm pretty sure it needed to be nerfed for pve reason too...

I think I understand what you are trying to say, but you're offering some bad advice. I don't mean to offend you and I do agree with your assessment of the game. You don't want to see Cryptic suddenly compromise their stated design goals because people want a different game entirely.

Criticism and complaints from the people who pay to play the game should never be ignored. Ultimately, Cryptic is in this game to make money. Certainly, there are probably many people on the design team who have a vision and want to build something they would want to play - they want to love what they create - but without steady revenue, they won't get to do that. If some large fraction of the customer base starts to complain about the same thing, Cryptic absolutely should listen and consider that complaint carefully.

I don't think they need to be warned that the views expressed by the most vocal members of the forums may not refelect the majority. I assume, first and foremost, that they are doing more market research than just reading the forums. I assume, also, that a lot of them play the game they are developing. Not just for testing, but for fun. So they hear and see what is really going on.

An MMO is a unique video game experience because it evovles over time. No other game has the advantage of evolving. It can grow and change, it can respond to what the fans enjoy. If they want to ignore all complaints and criticisms, they might as well never patch again.

I don't want to see this game shift focus away from PvE over PvP and away from a majority of solo-able content. But as time goes on, I expect the game will diversify. I expect that more and more things will appear for PvP for those players who like that. I expect that there will appear more things that can't be tackled alone and that reward grouping. Just to give the options. As the game grows, it will certainly become more diverse and offer different methods of play.

As far as game balance issues, those are always going to arise. There are good reasons to ensure that all powers are on par with each other even before you look at PvP. It makes content easier to design, for one thing. If some power builds are extremely effective and some are very poor, it becomes difficult to design content that works well for both sets. Moreover, if some power sets are great and some are terrible, then effectively you have removed certain power sets from the game. Older players avoid them and newer players try them out, discover they don't play well, and get frustrated.

So what, you might say. Big deal. Its okay to have some power sets that don't work as well as others. But Champions sells itself on diversity. Look at all the options you can pick from, they say. But if some of them are traps and others are game breakers, players don't really have the options they have been promised.

Over time, this sort of thing makes the game world feel bland and samey. If we are all running around with various flavors of Munitions build, the world is a lot less interesting. And any attempt to differentiate myself from the crowd means I have a less effective character.

So, don't think that game balance is all about PvP. It isn't. There is much more at stake than whether Superdude can beat Batguy in a fight.
