First of all let me say that I am really enjoying the game, when I can get in, and i'm sure will continue to enjoy the game for a while. But disregarding that.
Cryptic, what the hell where you thinking releasing this game at the time you did?
I've played more than a few MMOs at release, and have rarely seen one do more damage to itself than Champions in the first few weeks of release. I only know one other person who plays Champions, but every single patch that has been done since release has made it either impossible to get into the game, or caused massive issues in game, and our system are very different... the feedback on the forums from Crypic on the issue has been absolutely shocking, even though these problems are so widespread.
Second, the balance issues in the game with regards to powers (ie some powers are completely obselete in usefulness when compared with others) has also been pretty shocking.
The worst thing I find about all of this is that all these problems, I feel, should have been sorted out in Beta.... There is virtually no other reason for MMOs to have a Beta, other than to sort problems like these out... so what have they been doing the whole time in beta...
I know no-one from Cryptic is likely to read this or take any note if they do.
Other people may not have had the same experiences as me, so I would be happy to be proved wrong and hear other peoples opinions and views...

I personally find it a little baffling why Cryptic didn't just use the HERO system from the pen and paper rpg. It has been tweaked for balance over decades of play testing, and it is completely customisable. Even if they hadn't allowed full customisation of power special effects, the point system could have been used to directly modify powers in the game itself.
I do like the game as it is, but the truth is that it will never be balanced. Every time a new framework is added we will go through this all over again. It is just not worth stressing about, so I choose to sit back and enjoy the game for what it is. If the changes so far bother you, get ready for many years of upset ahead of you.

Two, because i read somewhere that the license was for the IP of Champions, not the Hero system.
Three, pnp isn't real time. Just not as easy to convert pnp rules to real time computer.
That said, i do think it would have been better if they kept the way powers were made. I'd go into it, but i'm tired. :P

I understand that things are slower in the tabletop, and that cryptic wanted a fast paced game that played more like a shooter. The fact that attacks never miss for example. However all of that can in theory be worked around. For example, if an attack would only hit 40 percent of the time based on OCV and DCV, then why not have it always hit but only do 40 percent damage? If someone has higher speed, why not have faster cooldown on powers? etc
Cryptic did only pick up the Champions IP. They should probably just have gone all out on it.
You are right though. If they had even just kept a little of how the powers are made the character creation process would have been truly magical. Especially if they allowed customisation of power special effects.

By the way I would also like to give the OP credit for not even hinting at a specific problem or issue in their post.
Well done. Not easy to do. Your actual complaint was so general and non-specific it would be virtually impossible for anyone to guess what issues you might be having. You could literally be having any problem that exists with the game right now and none of us would know which one.
