Ok, I have been PvP'ing and I am not doing very well. I have been scanning the forums but the only info I can find seems to be complaints about this and that being OP.

I am only lvl 16 and my Dual Blade build kicks some butt in PvE but once I get into PvP I cant do anything.

I am not looking to be an OP beast but I would like to have a fighting chance.

Basically I was wondering if melee is viable with a couple powers from other powersets or if it is a wate of time to try.

Are there any powersets that do well but aren't "cheap"?

Seeing as every single build I've tried that isn't worthless has been called cheap by somebody or other, I'd say no, but then 'cheap' is just another form of 'I only died cause I have lag' or 'you must be hacking' really. So stop trying to please others with what you pick and just do what you want. That said, many many different builds work. Get all the basics, one hold, one single target attack, one AoE, one heal, one passive, ect ect. Rank up your primary single target attack and passive first. Get decent gear, dont' have stuff from 10 levels ago. Follow all that and you'll be able to destroy probably about 90% of the players I come across who can't seem to manage those steps.

The remaining 10% is a tossup, some are pretty good, though the majority of even them are just people who take 5 defensives and teleport and spend the whole match trying desperately not to die. Those people aren't even remotely a threat, you just don't want to bother with them cause it'll take you far too long to kill them when you could be eating up their teammates.

Also, rank up your hold for when they finally fix the teleport bugs, you'll eat them up like candy.

There are no cheap builds. There are no cheap players. There is no honor. It's an online game. Play to win or expect to lose.

If you just play to have fun, then expect to have fun while losing to somebody who's playing to win.

I do play for fun and I do lose a lot.

I guess I will stick with my current build. I did pick up a root ability and it has helped a little bit.

Smartest mentality ever. I hope it infects some of the other people who confuse lose with no fun.

Seriously, it seems all too common for someone to think that "fair" means "I win all the time," without stopping to think that this is not fair for anyone else. Therefore, fair should mean you win approximately 50% of the time to an equally-skilled/geared player. Gotta think about the other players, too, not just what you want.

thats a 20th century mentality btw. word Honor came from times when fighting was real and you can die and kill. you should read more literature, MTV doesnt help here much.

Just make a character that you think is cool. Heck, even make a backstory for it. Enjoy the game :) Now if the only way for you to enjoy the game is to win PvP... then make a min max for that purpose and be happy with it. :)

Better yet, you hava buncha character slots, make one pvp toon and one pve to explore the story and whatnot :)
