The boots are (or at least were if they haven't fixed it) doing it wrong, actually, but if you've found a method to workaround their improper utility do share.

How did you get it to fly that high?

The boots set their max height based on what ground you are using them on.

You can float from one ledge and go higher and higher, or use a slanted building to move up, etc.

It's really fun.
