I'm going to make one last post here. I don't disagree with the OP. In fact, the forums would be a much better place without namecalling. I advocate that with all my heart, actively even in the past both in game and here on forums. But it's ironic that the OP wants people banned for forum behavior, while he might have fallen within his own set of rules in the past. I say in the past, since the OP says he bettered himself. That's great and should be applauded! But instead of giving people second chances, or at least have an open mind under which circumstances people write/say certain things-- we simply ban people for their mistakes now? Those people are paying customers and belong to the playerbase that allow me to keep playing. Instead of banning, maybe "we" could educate or at least warn? And first of all, at least listen to what their message is about? Human behavior is a complex thing, and often people who are confronted afterwards with their behavior-- often admit that they could have toned their message down a bit. It's simple emotions that are factoring in here too.
AFAIK, this forum set of rules is based on infraction points. It's to early to drop into any conclusions, and speculate about how moderators are moderating this forum. But in defense to people who have been showing some bad behavior-- Cryptic really should have a good look at themselves too, and start coming back and communicate and be open about what they are doing and/or planning. Because I have no doubt that quite a few of current complaints, even with their included flames-- could be avoided with good communication.
And that's all I have to say about this.
EDIT: spelling

Throw more insult if you feel this is your best move. It doesn't help your case though. For your consideration: I can handle more than a little smack talk. Almost all of us here can. However, we can still rightly prefer a forum where intolerable behavior isn't tolerated. I've always found it interesting how people like you will strike out with such hostility to those who advocate better behavior. What is the matter with the instigators and agitators? Is their skin too thin to endure a plainly stated warning or temporary suspension? Will that somehow break a fragile ego? |

Let me set the record straight right now by saying I haven't bettered myself. I'm probably going to continue flaming here and there when people are *******s to either myself or others, until I either can't access the forums any longer or Cryptic starts enforcing the rules.
The reason is simple: If someone insults me and I know that nothing will happen to them for it, and further that nothing will happen to me for insulting them back, then there's no incentive for me to not get into a little flame war other than 'being the bigger man', but I've never been good at that.
However, if I know they're going to get warned or banned, and I will too if I respond in like, I will probably just report their post, and ignore them knowing that I'll have my comeuppance in a little while, with the ability to feel like a smugly superior ******* without actually having to be one.
So yeah, I'm a terrible person and probably will be for life.

Whatever.
I'd just like to see the rules being enforced in some way OTHER than editing parts of the post away hours later when the person who posted isn't likely to even notice, much less care. I mean, they can do that TOO, just... actually give a warning or something to the people doing it.

As you've deftly pointed out, I've broken the rules before. I've not received one of those.
Judging by the number of people continuing to do so, I doubt anyone has.

Ive always found it interesting how people like you assume that the behaviors mentioned are intolerable and state it as a fact. I tolerate the behavior, i don't mind being smacked talk, I accept this is as part of the world. Why should we endure a plainly stated warning or temporary suspension for expressing how we feel? Will that somehow break the fragile system of governance? Some of us like to escape our normal social lives and enjoy an alternate reality, in a competitive environment you have to expect there to be some smack talk, its part of our nature. It is actually a normal and natural process. Go play any competitive sport you will see the same thing. I can’t wait till the Villains Online version comes out and I feel less like im stranded on deserted island with Richard Simmons.

When people get an infraction they get a private message informing them of it, along with a message that the moderator is prompted for when they infract them, and the number of points it's worth. As you've deftly pointed out, I've broken the rules before. I've not received one of those. Judging by the number of people continuing to do so, I doubt anyone has. |
