# 1 What I was once told by a DM in a Pen and Paper RPG

So for a while I played the Star Wars roleplaying game. The older DM had been playing for 10-20 odd years pretty cool dude. So we were waiting for the DM for the nights session. It didn't look like he would show, so the other guy says oh I will DM if need be after he got something to eat. So while he was gone two of the players said well if he is DMing I am out. This confused me so I asked the older guy why the other guys didn't want to play. He said that the other guy who went to get food didn't like to see his creations die. He said there are three things to being a good DM
One provide an engaging experience keep the players involved know what they want
Secondly you have to let the player win and not take it personal
Third most important thing to do as a DM is simply when not on a story driven quest to save the realm make some weak henchmen in the hundreds and just let you players go nuts.

If you don't like the current trend in forums. Or what is known as complaining STOP reading here.

Now why am posting this here? Well because this game was the third point imbodied to a tee. Should anything have been lessened because a FEW players made builds that allowed them to hit 40 in two days? No. What is the solution I am Not sure I can say I would love to return to Pre-Patch however there does need to be an Added Challenge What should that be? In my opinion Quests in Which The enemies can and Will Kick you butt, Supervillians with the Old Defensive Passives and Regen together. Stuff where when you finish the world did feel like it was in danger Dungeons where no punches are pulled. Make Super Villians be able to remove Passives for X amount of time.

That is the thoughts I felt I needed to put out there. Also If the Devs Close this thread what am I going to do. Just thought this would be the best way to put some feedback and some advice and to see others responses to this.

No.

No.

Just because YOU tell me to, doesn't mean that's what I should be doing. Maybe people should knock it off with the rage and learn to have a little patience while they fix the issues.

I personally feel the game is as good as its ever been now. Maybe this is not saying much but in relative terms thats good.

I wouldn't mind seeing the system rolled back for henchmen, but I think the current levels are much better for Villian+ characters. Perhaps henchmen should give virtually no experience, but instead act as resources that you use to get mission-creating items? Put a lieutenant in every othet group and up the spawn numbers for henchmen all around.

The main thing is that just rolling back the patch doesn't solve the problem. With Invulnerable and a few fire skills my character was untouchable. PvE, PvP, whatever. I had a good time flying around blowing stuff up, but easy mode gets old really fast, regardless of who you are. The game is still playable (in most cases, a few builds were certainly broken beyond repair by the changes) and now has some element of danger and challenge. Just going back to pure easy mode would be a mistake.

Hell yes! ;) I'm with you. Having played towards the end of Closed Beta, and through Open Beta... this game is as good as it's been. Now it's more challenging to me and I LOVE that.

OK, so I have DM's for 30+ years in PnP

Rule One: When somebody finds a loophole and is ruining things for others, change the rules
Rule Two: When somebody does their homework and finds a unique combination that gives them an advantage, leave it alone and reward them for the work.
Rule Three: People want to feel a sense of accomplishment, if things are easy they will get bored, but if things are outright impossible they will get bored and angry
Rule Four: Sometimes its fun to just blow things up, so make a challenge to see how many they can blow up, or just make sure they die in a horribly detailed way
Rukle Five: Only I get to drink between breaks

What do we learn from this - things run best when I'm in charge. Hope that helps.

Your rule 5 sucks, and you should be fired. EVERYONE should get to drink before, during, and after breaks! Makes the game that much more enjoyable.

This is how I DM stuff.

They could of fixed a lot just by adding in dungeons for all levels, instead of 28+.

The man speaks the truth. A PnP game without booze is like... something without... something else important.

Damn cold medication.
