Would there be any advantage to having a Core I7 processor in Champions over a Core 2 Dual? Would Champions use the extra processors?

There are architectual differences between the Core i7 and Core 2 Duo CPUs, but that is not restricted to core count.
I believe what you are asking is "Will Champions Online take advantage of more than two CPU cores?"
I don't recall, as I don't follow those posts, but I think the answer is 'not so much'.

Just my 2 cents but there are little quality and architecture differences in the i7 that liken it to the AMD64 when it came out. The Core technology behind the AMD64 just wasn't getting taken advantage of when it was out just like Multi-Cores and the i7 fact is there arn't any programs out there that take advantage of Muti-Cores, but there are little tweeks, upgrades and solid quality assurance improvements they did that make it a far better chip. that's just my observation.

This game uses a lot of cpu power, I upgraded from a duo to a quad and fps went up about 60-80% depending on the area. But I guess that also depends on your graphics card, was using a 4890 guess the duo couldn't push it.

As an FYI I have a Quad Core 2 Q6600 clocked at 2.93Ghz, Champions typically uses approximately 70% of core 0 and 55% of cores 1,2 & 3. Also I have yet to see memory useage of 3GB or more, typically 2.8GB. I have an 8GB Vista 64 Bit System. If you can swing it, definitely go Quad Core, the newer more powerful chip the better although I have no problems whatsoever with my Q6600.

I'd recommend a person wait a few weeks for socket 1156 to make a change.
