# 1 Why only 10 fps with lowest possible settings?

Iv tried everything now, updated drivers, read all kinds of optimization threads, defrag etc etc. Still horrible fps with EVERYTHING on lowest possible..

I have the following spec:

Dell laptop with:
2.4 dual core
Vista 32
4 gig ram
gforce 8600 gt 256 memory

I can go about my business with 60 fps for a few minutes, then moments later we are talking 5-10 tops fps for the rest of the session. Its not related to area, or number of players i meet or anything. This low fps can occure while standing still. What on earth is going on? I cant believe its supposed to run this bad with my rig. Sure its not high end but still should be able to play fluently enough, especially with everything on low. In fact im hoping i can play on higher setting with 20+ fps !

I think i had one session lasting 1 hour with 60 fps and I was super happy, however 80% of the time im sitting at 4-10 fps. Anyone else experienced this? Its not necc lag related becuase i do not get too bad rubber band effect lately, but what can it be?

I can run other games fine with decent detail and good fps, I dont think its something wrong with my hardware either. hmm..

Hope someone have something insightful info or similar experience !

Cheers

If you are running Vista or Windows 7 I highly reccomend IOBit Gamebooster, it helped me a ton when it came to this problem...now the only slowdown I experience is when I am flying, but that is because my processor is too slow.

I'm actually using that as well, it boosted my fps from 50 to 60 on the good moments but still 5-10 fps most of the time. This is a mystery for me tbh, becuase it seems like my rig on lowest possible settings would run on 50 60 fps. What I dont get is the insane low fps which unfortunately is 80% of the time. Im not convinced its hardware related, but then again what else can it be?

Why would my fps fluctuate like this? Why can I play other games on very decent settings, I have above the minimum spec, it shouldnt be down to below 10 fps for general gameplay! Why can i have hours (very few occasions) with 60 fps, and days with 10 fps? Wierd!!

CHeers!

I had a very similar machine except my processor is a 2.9 dual core. With the 4gb ram and 8600 I got around 12-15 in the desert and a little less in MC near rennasaince center. I started to go through each of my settings turning things either off, or down. Some things I kept high, but I sure dont remember which settings I used.

Somebody posted an amazing settings guide in the beta forums but not sure if it's still up.

Anybody know if this is around...it would really help the OP.

And then, I went and dished out the $73 on ebay for a 9800gt. I'm running max settings with 25-45fps most times. Sometimes it goes up to 60. I know money can be tight, hence the cheap card, but if you can...make that upgrade!

Good Luck!

But isnt it wierd that I have above minimal rig (id say im in middle of minimum and reccomended) and with everything on frigging super lowest of the lowest i get 5-10 fps? Yet periods with 60fps? hmm I dont get it, just dont get it at all.

THx for the latest info, ill see if i can manage to find out more. However I have been adjusting quite a few things, all new drivers, installed some game performance increasing software etc.

Problem im sitting on a laptop, so upgrading just pieces is a no go. It would have to be a full new purchase.

Oh well!

keep it coming!

Cheers!

You're not running into overheating are you? Also make sure your game resolution is higher than the desktop resolution, that has helped me on a few games. Other than that not sure what else could be causing problems aside from it might being your video card needing an upgrade.

But 8600 gt isnt that bad is it? Well sure i wont be near good fps with full settings but lowest of the low? Hmmm

Iv tried to monitor heat of my graphic card and its not too warm whent he fps hit occurs, I even tried overclocking it, increased the fps in good period, still down to 5-10 fps bad period. Dont get why I had one full day of 60 fps, while mostly i see 10 fps (and its not area related either hmm).

Does bad fps equal problems on my behalf only? Can it be something else? Like for some reason not too optimized for the 8600 series gforce or something similar? (as in it can be improved if cryptic optimize some stuff?)

Regarding resolution, I tried all kinds of resolution ingame and it only changed my fps during good periods, the bad period always result in a below 10 fps for some odd reason :\

Cheers!

Thx for all info so far!

Oh dang, you're on a laptop :(.

Your issues of going from 10 in some areas or certian times, and then jumping to 60 didn't happen to me. Until I adjusted my settings, I was at that 15ish range with slightly lower hickups in MC.

| did however go from 15 to 25 by adjusting using the guide I mentioned...just wish someone had it handy!

It seems like Im supposed to get 50- 60 fps under normal circumstances with everything on low, but something kicks in and the fps plummits.

Maybe you are referring to this link?

http://forums.champions-online.com/s...ad.php?t=28443

Iv tried everything there. As already mentioned, it did help my fps in normal good periods, however when the **** hits the fan, its 5-10 fps. One time i was standing still in the power room, i was alone in a hallway, super nice fps 60+.. sudd 5-10 fps. None passed me, none graphical extra things happend, I hadnt moved, I was on the phone irl. Things like that I dont get at all.

Cheers!

I have a macbook pro with similar specs except I have 512 megs on my video card and running 64 bit vista.

With middle range-ish settings I get 30-40 FPS almost all the time.
