OK...
I havent dueled too many times yet, but I have a suggestion.
Here's my example:
We were waiting for a mob to spawn, and was asked to duel to kill the time. Sure ! why not. I have won quite a few so far, I have shotgun.....people hate that ! lol,,,,sux getting knocked down.
but......I was spanked...lol...... AND respawned back at steelhead !! ....so therefore, I missed the mob spawn...eek !
Here's my suggestion:
Why cant our toons just submit on the spot rather than die ( I wont mention the other MMO that does it this way)...that way it will be more fun to duel casually. Having to travel back to where you were is kind of a turnoff for spontaneous duels for fun.
I now realize that is why people do it in the powerhouse (thanx to Minx for pointing this out)....because in the Powerhouse you respawn at the PH door...and dont have to travel far.
so in summary.
It would be nice not to have the travel penalty for a duel. It would make it more social in the zones, and people wouldnt feel obligated to do it in the Powerhouse only.
what are your thoughts on this?

I agree with you; I don't understand why dueling has to to result in the death of a player. This was one thing that drove me insane back in SWG because after (a) being defeated for a third time (yeah, yeah) or (b) if a player was a ***** and decided to /deathblow you if he/she won, you would die and clone (this had repercussions, such your gear losing permanent durability/having to revive in another location.
While CO's consequences aren't nearly as severe (I know we don't lose stars), it makes me think twice before dueling a friend if I'm waiting near a quest or I'm waiting for a group member to show up since I'd rather not have to walk back.

I can see the first to hit 25% is defeated, no death, force field drops, game over. That way you don't die, don't respwan and face it, it takes long enough to get others to even 25% in many cases.

Anywho, as for the dying thing, I doubt it's ever going to be a priority issue for the devs to fix. You can after all, y'know, not duel if you're actually busy doing something else.
Still, I doubt it would be very hard to make it work like WoW where your character yields instead of dying.

Is it a duel or a mono on mono showdown to the death?

While there are more pressing issues for the development team, since this is what the post is about, I thought I'd throw in my two cents. And, if you bring up the "special Olympics" in the context you did, I'd say it's you who is mentally demented/stunted in some capacity.

I like the losing a star idea rather than death (thats a good idea). Be cool to have a running stat of how any duels won without losing star? be cool in my book.
and yes duels are for practice, to help hone your skills playing your toon...to help prepare for the arena and whatnot.
It is for fun, and for help in determining what you are going to be up against with other powersets.
I love duels, bu it would be nice if they were not so inconvenient a times.....
like Kovahn mentioned..it would be nice to duel someone (especially fun with tam members while running around ding missions and such :) ) but not have to delay them while you travel back to the spot.
some good thoughts here.

I'd rather lose a star than have to walk back, personally.
