That way, Cryptic is still getting paid for archetypes/powersets, through either their C-Store or Gold membership, and Silver players can have access to Freeform. I know I would be more willing to buy C-Points (through PWE Prepaid cards) more often if I was buying more powersets for a Freeform character, over just Hideouts and Costume Pieces (what I currently spend C-Points on).
See this is how I think they should handle it too. That and sell a freeform slot at the price of a Permium AT; 920CP.

I'd be willing to pay $20+ for one Freeform slot, or at least a retcon of a current character into a Freeform.
Logic doesnt work with some gold members when it comes to selling freeform. They will stick their feet in the sand and wont move.
Not even an inch. Sorry :\

Of course you would, anyone would. Think about it.

For a one-time payment of $20, the game becomes completely free of charge for you, and with no restrictions. I understand why that's attractive.

But it doesn't really mesh with the fact that others have needed and still need to pay $15/month to remove the same restrictions.

Or that many have paid $300 for a similar service.

Except that this game is already completely free of charge (except for the optional premium stuff you do have to pay a fee for), having a single freeform slot doesn't really mean you get no restrictions (you still have to pay if you want additional freeform slots for other characters or if you want additional goods or services such as costumes or retcon tokens), subscriptions offer much more than just a single freeform slot to create one character and Cryptic doesn't really sell a permanent freeform slot for $300. It sells a life time subscription with a slew of benefits, including 16 freefrom character slots that auto generate an extra slot uppon reaching lv 40 with a toon (every time you reach lv 40), several costume sets, travel power skins, bank slots, bag slots, etc.

And those that choose to buy a LTS to play a single toon do so out of their own volition, but that is not the product that Cryptic sells.

16 freeform slots x $20ea = $320*

*Not including ANY of the other benefits of subscriptions (extra freeform character slot per lv 40 toon, costume sets, TP skins, etc.)

Those of us that have a LTS get the better deal.

Could give some of the basic Freeform frameworks to silvers for free, for use with their PAID-FOR freeform character slot, and then charge them something extra for additional power sets to be unlocked.

This would then allow them to, easily, buy a free-form slot, but make them pay extra for those other powersets.

Give them some basics for free like...

Might
Fire
Ice
Sorcery (probably including the various sub-categories of sorcery, but not supernatural or dark or anything)

Maybe a few others, those were just some of the more basic ones.

I'm really against Silvers having Freeform at all, but if it were to be done I would like them to have to pay for it heavily.

Give Silvers the chance to buy freeform slot(s) and give them access to only the AT powersets they have. Then you will get the Silvers to buy a slot(s) and then any of the Premium Ats they want.
The free ATs wouldnt change but there would be a greater incentive to buy more ATs from the C-store. But the freeform slot(s) are only sold one at a time and charge the price of a Premium AT.

Gold/LTS members that only focusing on caring for one freeform character would not like this. I would say one freeform slot for silvers no more than that can be purchased... maybe.... because I prefer to have hundreds of slots for freeform.

And they'd be wrong. Like I tried to point out in my post above (though, this wasn't the focus of that post), Cryptic doesn't sell a single freeform slot with subscriptions. They sell a slew of options as part of a package that goes beyond the ability to make a single freeform character. That people choose to use this wealth of options to make only a single character doesn't change the fact that the product they bought included far more than the limited range of options they're using. And it doesn't give them the right to dictate that a company should market their product based entirely around how they choose to use it.

They might have chosen to use this product to create a only single character, but the reality remains that the product they either rented or purchased offers the ability to create 8-16 characters, with a potentially unlimited number if they level each one of those characters they level to 40*, as well as many other options that posters gainst a c-store freeform option seem to refuse to acknowledge in preference of claiming that subscriptions sell only freeform, when in reality it offers many other benefits as well.

*which isn't the same as unlimited slots, but still a significant benefit

The main sticking point, (for me at least), is that if they allow a Silver player to purchase a freeform slot for a 1-time fee, how do you reconcile the fact that someone may have been paying for a subscription all this time, and if they let it lapse, they basically don't get to keep any of it.

Now, I realize that a Silver freeform slot won't likely include the bag slots, bank slots, etc, but shouldn't someone who has been a subscriber all this time get something too?

How do you reconcile the fact that the Adventure Packs are now available to all players? I bought them and now they are free. Am I mad? No.
