I see a lot more calls for hitting the old APs than I used to, for certain.

800+ day vet here (I so should've Lifetimed, oh well), and I still find that my monthly fee is more than worth it. It's way too limited being a Silver in my eyes.

Its progressively less wroth it, but so far the pros still outweigh the cons.
Lets see how the next few months under PWE go,
Cause the last few have been so wonderful... /sarcasm
I miss Atari.

Gold status is worth more than Silver. Everything and more outlined by Nepht basically.
So far the game has been improving, the fact that the zones at midday for the last week are more populated than the zones at prime time for the last few months (almost back to last summer) is looking really good. That and people that quit long ago are actually returning and enjoying themselves. And considering this is over a week so far and the population has stayed fairly consistent throughout, that's impressive since most content updates the population rises for a few days then drops off dramatically again right after.
Cryptic needs to start following up with the lair review now and get the heroic lairs in and start pushing for the level cap raise and new zone to get the momentum going now.

On the topic, of course Gold is better than silver!
You get a monthly stipend, more slots each time you hit lvl40, more archetypes, freeform! Just those things alone make it WAY better than silver. I mean, my only hope of getting a new archetype is by grinding Questionite for a month! I'm pretty sure if an active Gold sub dropped to a silver, they would feel extremely limited.

Gold is definitely better than Silver. Then again it all falls down to a matter of preference. Take for example me: I am doing a little experiment by going gold for a month and one thing I have learned is I miss some aspects of gold like power colouring, but to be honest I really like the pick up and play of AT's over total Freeform selection. Don't get me wrong, in all aspects of everything gaming I'm a total customization junkie, but I need way more practice with the powers and how they work together to fully make a viable character. :D

There is one real reason to subscribe right now: freeform characters with access to every ability.
If they start selling freeform slots and/or putting in powersets that even subscribers need to buy access to, then I'd say that a subscription just becomes expensive storage rental (like STO). Then subbing wouldn' be worth it, opposed to buying permanent unlocks, unless you suffer from terminal altitis and actually think you need lots of inventory space on every character. And if you do, then you may as well just buy the LTS and view it as a discount bundle.
