To clarify my stance, updating to the latest IE is not crucial unless you really, really have a good reason to use the browser. The launcher forces you into a position to use it even if you don't want to and in doing so, forces you to make that update. And if you're having problems updating, tough luck! You can't log in to the server even though you meet every other important requirement in playing the game.

All of which could be easily avoided if they programmed the login process to be ingame, and for connections for the patchserver and patching to be done ingame, and games that are a decade older have been able to do this.

The launcher software is -insert explicit- and this isn't the only reason why, considering the experiences with it in the past. I'm not changing my viewpoint on that.

IE may be "hardcored" in my system's OS but I don't use it. Every game out there utilizes DirectX and requires Windows OS for the best compatibility. That's a market standard. Being forced to make sure that IE is working isn't. It certainly shouldn't be for playing a computer game when it has nothing to do with webpage browsing.

Like everyone else out there, since there's no alternative.

There are however, better alternatives to IE.

It was a rhetorical question Errol.

Ah .. also .. first try just to empty your IE-Cache and maybe clear cookies, and look if that already helps.
I have vista x32. Thanks to O_Farmer I was able to find IE-9 for vista x32 but it wont install. I made sure I was up to date on all my system programs and I get the error message saying 'Internet Explorer couldnt finish installing'
I have emptied my cache and cookies and I got nothing. :(

When you contact Cryptic Support be sure to provide your Diagdx.txt showing your PC's hardware/OS details. To do that use the Search field in the Start Menu and type in "diagdx", then click on the button to save all informtion to text file.

Also copy and paste the diagdx details in this thread so that we might be able to help you as well.
I truely try not to but everytime I try something new and it doesnt work I do lose some.

I searched for diagdx and I came up with nothing. :(

I'm terribly sorry, the correct command is "dxdiag". I got it reversed.

When the window pops up, click on save all information. It will create a text file in your selected location. Please copy and paste the info in this thread.

Also download HijackThis, a free application from Trend Micro:
http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/

Click on the sourceforge link at the bottom to get it. Use it to get a report on your registry and Windows running applications. Copy and paste the info here as well.

Okay, I've googled the .exe names of some of your running processes except for the obvious essential system exe files and I can't conclude that any of them has anything to do with your IE9 installation problem. I noticed that you're using uTorrent though. It's a stretch but you can try closing it to and try running IE9 installation again. Maybe it's using up a port that the installation needs when downloading the necessery setup files.

Also disable your Trend Micro AV software's real-time protection when running the installation to see if it's the cause.

Be sure to give your HijackThis and dxdiag info to Cryptic support so that they can help you further.

Well, I don't know what's wrong...only thing I can suggest is to format your HDD and reinstall windows together with whatever programs you're using. It might be a drastic solution but at least it will eliminate whatever it is in your system that's preventing you from installing IE9.
