Since there are two new Side Kick threads, I posted one a few weeks back, as did someone else, I decided we should compile all the ideas into one thread.
Mine is the oldest, so I'll start with that:

Next oldest was Guardian-Pal

So here's is what I'm suggesting, its been been done on Guild Wars to some success, but with their henchman system the Micro Transactions can be permanent. Blank Sidekicks. No costume, no powers, just a blank person. Then you take your blank to a special vendor inside the Power House, they allow to register a hero of yours as a Sidekick, taking their build and current costume appearance as a Sidekick. You are then able to activate this Hero as help anywhere a normal Sidekick is allowed. Also as with all other sidekicks, the total time that this character can be used has a limit and will have to be re-registered onto a new blank next time. Also, for an added fun quirk, don't bind the items. Let people trade unique and strange Sidekicks to each other in the AH. As all costumes and powers exist in the system, I can't imagine it would be too hard to have a character model appear with the right costume and the AI could figure out how to use the powers on the bar. Maybe not in the same way you would, but we would be happy just to have the company of our own heroes with their friends/partners. In the same regard, this would be quite popular with the RP'ers who would like multiple of their characters to appear at the same time. I understand the actual large ammount of work that would be needed to go into this, but it would be a system that would be highly supported and be purchased alot, atleast by the people I've talked to. Anyone who would like to see this, please sign below. And any Devs or GMs who see this, please give a likelyhood of this being added to the To Do List ever? |

I am already in surfing teams and missions on the wrong character. So here what popped into my imagination and I give as suggestion to the devs like a Holliday gift, hereby presenting the following as suggestion; Behold the HERO-CLONE GIFT DEVICE! Here how it might works; Premium version, might be put like any become or supersize permanent device in the C-store. But would have a behavior like a sidekick Device or a pet. Still it would be exchangable between players if the maker decide so. As it works out; clicking on the unasigned item after purchase, a window opens up like the character generator; except, there are the list of existing characters from that player to choose from. Once the choice is made upon wich hero clone to do, you get the update option; Clicking No Updating would leave the hero in same costume pieces and same build, role and powers and levels and equipement on a permanent basis while Update would constantly update to the last costume, levels, equipement and build the owner of the original hero character would had made in the character on its last log. Uniform Option; in case the No Updating is chosen, a uniform might be seleted that will be permanently used at each activations. Behaviour Options; 4 empty boxes let the player enter catchy lines for different situations (and can chose to NOT use it altogether) with Action and Non-action context. The action context let assign a line to a power from the powertray wether it is or not for activating a Device. The Non-Action context would be one done selected for selected situations such as idle, following, covering, made while the player is targeting a friens or a foe, upon fainting in fight or activation. The Non-Action context lines would also have a emote embedding selection if the player making the Hero-clone gift Device choose so. (It is also possible to assign no emotes at all.) *Over all, in the Behaviour Options it is possible to turn on an option making the Hero-clone gift device mimicking the hero of the player using it if he/she salutes a target or so. (That option can also be shared in the pet tool tray.) Crafted lvl3 version, Would be bound automatically upon equip. might be put like any become or supersize permanent device in the C-store. The Hero-clone gift device can merely be used by other characters of the very same account. ************************************************** ************************************************** ******************** IMPORTANT NOTE; If the initial original hero gets deleted (I wish not but...) the device reverts as the unasigned item device that creates the Hero-cone gift device. The clone can't be activated or coexist in the same team or same instance. EDIT AS SUGGESTED BY THE AUTHOR OF THE SECOND POST; It should INDEED be scaling. Else we'd get frustration on too low clones and also get all sort of abuses with maximal leveled ones to get as company. Now I know that implies a LOT of logistic, hoping players don't troll each another upon sharing devices... etc... Also I guess I didn't tought of PVP here... But, overall, what about it? I also tought first about those two ideas without posting them; Customisable sidekick/contact device. Customisable sidekick. |

The Sidekick System The idea is that at level 40, similar to the nemesis system, we would be able to create our own sidekick. Choosing his or her skills, and his or her looks. Your sidekick would automatically appear in liars such as TT, mandragalore, Andrith Ruins, Nemcon, All major nemssis missions, and comic series/adventure packs. you would have the option of your sidekick coming along or not in addition to that, they could randomly nab you missions, similar to nemesis clues, but outside of that you could call your sidekick via device, and should they be defeated or dismissed they have a far longer cool down than their cstore counterparts. I think if this were to be developed it would take CO a step further into the true hero experience. To me it already feels like a true hero experience, but why not take it a step further. in addition i would envision this as an OPTIONAL lv 40 feature, in other words you dont need to use the sidekick system to further your content. I do envision this as an all user feature, so anyone who reaches 40 is entitled to join the system. perhaps the sidekick system could integrate well with the upcoming Alert system? Regardless theres is my idea in a nutshell, id love to hear thoughts and feedback. Even more so from the Devs, should they decide to grace this thread. Thanks for your time in reading this, and happy posting! |

Why don't we have the option for our heroes to design and have their own sidekicks/partners? My idea runs similarly to the Nemesis creator, perhaps it'd be even simpler due to fact the sidekick has no need for their own "henchmen". Essentially you'd get to choose their powers, what they look like, and maybe even their "personality" to determine what kinds of things they'd say in combat, and out of combat. In terms of how they'd actually work. They could work like "pets" like the current sidekick devices do, which I wouldn't mind, especially when the sidekicks are defeated you'd just have to wait a period of time to be able to call them back into combat again. It's a complex idea, yes, but I truly believe this would be a great feature that expresses one of Champions Online's strong points. Customization, making the hero you you want. We've gotten hideouts, and they're working on giving those greater functionality. A custom sidekick creator would only serve to make the superhero experience in Champions even more immersive. EDIT: So I'll just list the features that could/should be included in this idea. -Should be able to pick the sidekick's powerset. -Should be able to pick the sidekick's look in the character creator and be able to change it. -Could include a personality feature to give some variety in sidekick text bubbles/voice-acting -Could (and this very ambitious) include a series of missions that revolve around your sidekick similar to how the Nemesis system works. -Could even intertwine with the Nemesis system, with the side-kick having their own nemesis, or getting captured by yours. Any thoughts? Feel free to throw in your own ideas as well. :) |

I would love to see a sidekick creator, much like the nemesis creator. You could create a sidekick from scratch, and then give them an archetype to compliment your own powerset, and then they follow you around and help fight crime. I love having followers, however, in this game they expire after a short period of time. So having your own permanent personal sidekick would be a great feature. |

I always felt that if a Sidekick System was ever implemented, that you would be able to choose your Sidekick's personality just like with your Nemesis.
For a start, Student (Think Robin), Familiar (Summoned beast and fiends) and Recruit (Something like a soldier under your command) could be some good basic personalities for Sidekicks.

I think that is a great idea, why not have a sidekick that could buff, tank, dps or some kind of bonus you could choose. Why not be given the choice of a human, robot, animal or some kind of monster sidekick to better fit your theme. I could see this as an award based on the amount of time subscribed to the game.:)

I'll probably have much to add, but for now I only have time for a couple of (relatively) quick thoughts.
First, before Sidekicks can be implemented like this, I think all of the Sidekick Devices in the C-Store (and elsewhere) will have be be renamed Henchman Devices. (That's more what they are anyway -- Sidekicks stick around, while Henchmen do not.)
Second, I've seen several ways proposed for making the Sidekick available to the PC: as a Power, as a permanent Device, as a repeatable Crafted Device, as a default status (like the Nemesis), and a few others that I'm not thinking of. Personally (and I've suggested this before), I'd make the Sidekick a Crafted Primary Utility Upgrade. At the very least, the PC would have to sacrifice whatever Characteristic boosts he'd normally get from a Primary Upgrade. To make it flexible, one could make Sidekick a Major Utility Enhancement, and then the PC would be able to get a little boost, rather like trading a Primary Utility for a Secondary Utility plus a Sidekick.
Personally customizing a Sidekick's appearance, Power Set, and personality are pretty much given. If Personal Sidekicks are done through Devices or Upgrades, however, they should be personalized according to the user, not the creator. (There many be some merit to being able to craft Henchman Devices with your own personal design and selling them at the Auction House, though I can see where that might also be a developer's headache.)

IIRC, devs already said that if they do a sidekick system, they'd want it to be like the nemesis system.
I, for one, like that idea.

My take on the Sidekick system:
Also, this thread seems of interest to this subject.

- Allow creation similar to the Nemesis system, complete with personality choice which influences dialogue.
- The sidekick powers should not be customizable (as a standard, at least). You select a power set or an archetype, and the sidekick levels automatically.
- Make available only at lvl 35 (or higher, if level cap is raised). Below that level we can use the C-store henchmen.
- It should not be an upgradable power purchased at the Powerhouse, but it should be usable as an icon on the cast bar. It should also be possible not to have it on the cast bar, for those who don't want to use a sidekick. I don't want the sidekick to be an item similar to the C-store henchmen.

First, for power selections, I'd add a third possibility: Hero Junior, following the PC's power history blow-for-blow. This could be helpful for Freeforms that use two or three different Power Sets. I do agree with the suggestion of using both Power Sets and Archetypes for Sidekicks.
Second, I'd go lower, if only for legacy reasons. After all, several heroes started out their careers with sidekicks, including the Star-Spangled Kid, Hong Kong Phooey (okay, bad example), Space Ghost, the Tick (at least, the two TV versions), and Xena. For feasibility, I think the absolute minimum level should be 15, though I'd go more for 21. But if it's that low, I don't think that it should be a "take this or miss out on content" thing like the Nemesis System; it should be something that has trade-offs. What I said earlier about making it a Primary Utility Upgrade has that in mind, and I'm sure there are other was to work it.

The reason I suggest that the Sidekick be available at lvl 35 and no earlier is simply financial.
Cryptic needs to make money to continue making the game. One source for making money is the C-store and its micro-transactions (why do you think we get some costume parts for free only to find that they match best with stuff we have to buy? Or get the Jetpack travel power for free only to find that all the nice-looking jetpacks cost money? Not complaining, by the way, I don't mind paying for stuff I like and I think it's awesome thay one could play this game completely for free if one so wanted).
To give us permanent sidekicks at lvl 15-20 would essentially kill the sales of C-store henchmen. Simple as that.
Related idea: I think it would be cool if we could buy permanent versions of the current henchmen to use as sidekicks. As in, when you get to make your sidekick, you could actually buy (for C-points) Duratok or Pistolwhip (BoE of course), and when you use that item it creates your permanent sidekick in their exact image. I have no idea if that is actually feasible... but it would be really cool.

Yeah, I only said L15 because that's the earliest logical place for a Sidekick to come into a superhero's life. I'd rather L15 was when the Nemesis first shows up, and L25 for the Sidekick.
I'd hate to see the C-Store Henchmen become permanent Sidekicks, though. They're unique individuals, and it would seem awkward to see several heroes running around with the same Sidekick. Sidekicks tend to be highly personal; Robin works well with Batman, but might not partner so well with, say, Zatanna (at least, on a long-term basis).
