Hello.
I don't know if many of you know, but most energy builders change animation when ranked up.
There's also a difference in the way the powers sound, so check that out as well.
Here's a video showcasing them, some having a significant graphic difference between Rank 1 and Rank 3.

First "video" is Rank 1, and after the transition comes the Rank 3 one.

My favourite one is the Sorcery one (Eldritch Bolts).
They feel so powerful and look so great that I plan on ranking it up on some of my toons.

Some of us used to rank up Ego Blade just so our weapons looked the same throughout our attack animations. This was before you could choose your Ego Blade(s) weapon geo at the tailor, when the geo was tied to the rank of each separate power in the Telekinesis Set.

Most build gurus and min/maxers will advise against ranking up one's energy builder, as it's an inefficient way to use advantage points. Which is a shame. Every option should offer some kind of meaningful benefits.

I do know that they're not worth ranking up much, but for thematic reasons I'd do it; especially if I have some spare points.
Some of them look too good.

Ranking up eb's should cost 1 point not 2....Or better yet, give the animation choices in Powers window like the Pets got. It's about customization after all.

1 point EBs might actually result in me putting ranks in them.

Personally, what I'd like to see is them making the rank ups SEVERELY increase their damage instead of energy generation, to that of the non buffed T0s even, since we're already reworking the T0s to not suck anyway. They're called "fighting moves" internally anyway, aren't they? It's not like Ryu's normals ever didn't do good damage.

Remember when the EB pass happened, which was supposed to make EBs more relevant?

Me neither.

I agree with Xao, ranking EBs should offer up a significant damage boost, especially if they're going to cost 2 adv points a piece.

Or give them crippling challenge! :D

PS: Force and Sorcery R3 are by far my favorites. Too bad I'll never ever use them.

Thanks for the video, that was cool. I can't speak for anyone else but I appreciate the time and effort you put into your work. So now I have a question.

Do any other powers, from any tier, have ranked up visual effects?

I'm fairly certain that almost every power (Including Travel powers!) actually does this, but it's subtle unless you're looking for it in most cases. Like with Power Flight, rank one the effect only emanates from your hand and the "flying trail" is small and overall is rather unimpressive. But adding one rank makes the power look much better and more noticeable.


And yes, thank you for doing this video. It's definitely nice to see this effect on energy builders since next to no one ever ranks them up unless there's a nice custom advantage, like with Force Bolts.

Most ranged powers will change in some way when ranked up, whether it's becoming larger, or having more particle effects, or what have you. In staying with the subject of the thread, R3 infernal bolts is by far my favorite looking energy builders in this game, they're just so pretty. *_*
