Okay, so basically I'm under an informal NDA not to discuss most of this, but I just wanted to say that after hanging out with, and then suddenly finding myself working for, a startup MMORPG company, I suddenly have an IMMENSE newfound respect for development teams, especially coders.
Right now I've been involved in two very deep and involved discussions about problems with using different engines, the problems with art pipeline with one engine versus the other, etc - and I'm just a writer :p
So to everyone who's ever had to either write server/game code themselves or program in a rpe-built system like BWT, I freaking salute you. And I'm going to go take some tylenol now :p
PS: I'd PM this to someone on the team instead, but I have no idea if that actually works here at CO ;)

i personally know nothing about coding/programming/game design etc. but i have played/betatested/veteranned for many games, and have had some really thorough conversations with developers and programmers (admittedly not as much with this dev team, but still) and with my fair amount of experience i see and acknowledge a lot of the difficulties the team has had with this game, and while it has been a bumpy road i agree that the team has done an exceptional job in putting out and improving on this great game. i, personally, have always supported you but i know that it wasnt always easy when a large part of the community for the longest time was so negative.
thank you

It really is amazing how much goes on behind the scenes that no one ever sees. :)

Hey, I'll take another chance to say it. Even considering my recent posts I really want to get out the point that I am quite pleased with the current dev team and have more faith in them than I have at any time in the past right now. My main issues are with the communication and "off" decisions with the Community Team and other groups within Cryptic.
IMO, I find it unfortunate when I see people make venomous posts about the Devs when that's not who they're actually talking about and wish people would take a momment to seperate the two.
Oh and Azure, Gratz on your job. While I've never been a coder I do understand some of what you're talking about when it comes to MMOs. It can both be fascinating and horrific to be behind the curtain. Enjoy the ride. ;)

Depends on which company you work for, Lex.

Congratulations Azure! <^_^> That's really cool!
(And honestly I'm thrilled to see a game hiring a writer, hooray for that! <^_^>)
Good luck!

Gratz on the new job, and thanks for the support.

"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain" really takes on a whole new meaning when the community is on a vitriolic posting kick.
It's nice to see some compliments being posted. Hopefully this will help raise awareness about how difficult game development is. It really breaks my heart every time I see a "Fix This! It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes!" post. I really do wish gamers (in general) understood what goes on behind the scene better.
Thanks again to a great Dev team, and congrats to Azure for getting an inside view.

I have never doubted our dev team. My recent cynicism is due to the manner is which Atari is utilizing them and other resources, not at 'our treatment at their hands'. That is the contention of those fired up over 'the other issue'.
