There are threads being posted about players losing interest once they hit 40.

This is not to bash them - I understand what they are saying, content is wearing thin, but I am still maintaining a patient attitude, waiting for the resources from ftp to be applied.

Anyhoo . .. I have four 40s, and another at 39, but I still stay interested. I will give one reason why, but I also ask for others to chime in. Feel free to say why you remain enthused about CO.

A recent event has me very fired up to play through the game again. Another fellow on the forums expressed his interest in a predator-style character and ideas were exchanged, and this really piqued my curiosity. I had a lvl 18 sitting in limbo, so I gave him a predator style outfit, and then retconned him into what I feel are appropriate powers. In my mind, that requires claw and power armor powers. These are probably the two powersets that I have the least experience with, so the result so far is kind of gimpy . . . but for PvE content, it works. It is challegnging, but it works, and the challenge makes it a lot of fun. I am excited to see how the character gains competence as it develops new powers. I intend to do it again with a female toon, to see if the different costume choices make it look better. Best looking of the two is a keeper! :D

Bottom line is, yes we need more content, I can't argue that - but that does not mean that there is nothing to do. In my case, it is more a matter of battling this toon's weaknesses than it is the environment. And also the interaction with community that brought this about is encouraging.

4 40's here, and numerous 30's and 20's.

What keeps me interested is rolling alts and PvP.

When I get to a content stretch that I am sick of, I PvP until I'm past it. Usually that means PvPing almost solid through Tier 2 (I'm really sick of westside and early Canada, and cowboy robots). I am also really sick of 30-33 Monster Island. Unfortunately T4 PvP when you're at the bottom is really painful, so I still generally have to play with the manimals.

The late 20's MC content (with the Magic Lantern, Doctor destroyer arcs) most of the Canada content (Gadroon, Argent Snowthrush Sanctuary, Telios etc) the desert prison, Lemuria, and later Monster Island are still pretty fun for me to play through.

I'm not a fan of Vibora Bay unfortunately. The quests are all ridiculously grindy and exp pace seems extremely slow compared to the equivalent missions in Lemuria and MI.

Apparently I cannot find the character roster that used to be on the site... in any event, I have a LOT of Alts... I want to say like 18 or so... could be more. I think I have one alt for each major powerset, at least. A few atls share many similar powers but thematicaly are different enough. I sometimes have to fight to NOT pick a -great- power that (from another character) I know is a great power, but that doesn't REALLY fit the current alt's theme. :)

Same here, the world about me provides a general framework to tell my own story through my characters. That's why I think UGC would be fantastic, since the big fun about PnP RPG's is always creating a world around you to play in.

Anyway, The world serves as a backdrop for the adventures of my characters, and given the fun of combat and power progression, as long as what he's doing isn't tedious (kill x of y to get z repeat) I usually have a ball just fighting stuff. The occasional gem of a storyline or mechanic change makes everything that much better but it's very rarely the end that I'm trying to reach, but rather that next step in character progression, getting better, either by character or by practice. Then, at a certain point it does become about the story he participates in, but this is usually once he's become comfortable in his ability and anything going forward is extra, or takes him to a new level from something I've learned along the way.

Also 5 mans in the PH are just fun to fight through. It would be cool if we could increase the mob size even more, especially since some characters can take on the whole battlestation 5 man on hard in one shot. Or better yet, put something like that out in the open world for heroes to fight against and protect and defend, throw some superbaddies for further fun.

I don't normally get into Alts in MMOs (only 3 40s and I just passed 500 days) but I did have a good time leveling an AT Soldier up to 40. Leveling an AT was a very different experience then leveling a regular free form and sometimes mixing it up is just what you need to stay interested.

I could never bring myself to play another character than the one I'm currently playing.

Which one was I playing again?

I have a 40 who I am currently retconning. Cause its really fun. But I spend most of my time making, tweaking and deleting new characters. I give them to about lvl 15 to impress me or they get the axe. I'm having a great time.
