# 1 How do you beat Luther Black?

Because on 2 person team, level 40 "easy" it is impossible. With only 5 minutes to do 5 trunks, the Demon Key moves impossibly slow, and only gets to 2 tops before the timer expires. There is no way to keep Black's aggro or kill off the minions in time to avoid them slowing down the Key.

So... what's the catch??

Grrr.

Keep black's an his minons away form the key. That is it. If the key is fighting, you are doing it wrong.

We're doing it the only way we can, attacking Black and trying to fight off the minions. We get him "killed" once or twice... but with just two heroes, there seems to be no way to hold his aggro and keep him off the key AND kill, knock away the minions without having to change to a FOTM build.

We tried pulling him to the other side of the room - no dice, he fights for a second, then is back on the Key.

So, really... you have to have super DPS or crippling challenge or challenging strikes to win this? What a shame.

Don't worry about killing him. Save up some kind of heavy spike damage for right when the key makes it to a chest, and grab aggro back quick, and drag him back away. Then just sit there blocking and killing adds. If he's lowish on health, get him to where you can kill him in like 2 seconds, and wait 'till he's on the key again.

im lvl 39 and went thru solo. it took a few tries but i had to really hammer him. i have a fire build with regen, i had to go into protector with regen, and that barely kept him off the key.

Having the same issue. I have a character with pretty solid dps trying to solo it on easy, and on my best of many attempts, the key is just starting the fifth case when time runs out. There's just no way for my toon to generate enough damage to keep aggro off the Key long enough to make it under the timer. I've literally taken away three-quarters of Black or a mob's health and not had it aggro onto me and off of the Key. Nothing really I can do differently other than respec.

Kinda bums me out, because I was really enjoying this one alot, and was getting all set to praise Demonflame all over the board until I ran smack into this. Like the OP, I'm not going to respec to a totally different build for each Adventure Pack. This game's biggest pro- is its character customization...so its kind of self-defeating.

I was hoping there would be traps in the room we could use or something else to grab his attention... but no. Also a bit frustrating that we kill him and then he says "nuh UH" and is instantly back to full health. That kind of thing is annoying in a console game, but HERE?

Arg.

I wouldn't have as much problem with that if it didn't apparently aggro wipe...or if aggro didn't reset every time the key touches a case....or if dying didn't cause you to respawn on the other side of the instance...or if mobs didn't respawn while you were working on the boss fight....or if I had a taunt button...or if the timer were six minutes instead of five...or if the key didn't use a very long channeled health drain as one of his primary attacks, stopping him from switching back to the case after he gets hit once...

If any of the above were changed, my toon could beat the fight.

This is part of the problem really with how the difficulty slider works. It just makes the mobs weaker or tougher, putting it on easy, for example, doesn't give you a more forgiving timer, or help you gain or maintain threat.

As others have said - it's not a 'kill' fight as Black can't be killed. You want to:

A) Do engough damage to keep Black's attention focused on you and not the Demonkey, as the key will spend time firing back.

B) Keep Black's minion off the Demonkey too. Again, killing it is useless because it just respawns.

It a manage aggro fight; and you just want to be able to stay alive and keep Black and his minion occupied. If possible, you should aggro pull them as faraway from the chest the key iis dispelling; and save your high burst attack for when Black or the minion turn their attention on the key - and draw Black/the minion's attention back to you. Any speed debuffs you can use on the minion to slow him down are good too. So, in the end, dependiing on your build, these tasks may be more difficult (and some bulds might not be able to solo the entirety of DF - even on Normal.
