Or maybe a gang of super-powered villains wants to hold the city for ransom? Not on the Peacekeeper’s watch! Just draw whatever inspires you, so long as it contains four or more of any of the Peacekeepers. IT’S YOUR CHOICE!

Keystone man was being sarcastic.
For once, I agree with both of you, advertising a copy of DCUO here is less than nice.
You do have to admire Thor's Assasins' insanely brilliant strategy to stretch his budget for character art.
He'll probably amass a couple thousand dollars worth of art from great artists that shoot for the prize. Why pay out a thousand plus for a few couple of great group shots, each would cost anywhere for 300 to 400 dollars, when you can do a contest and get twenty or thirty for the same amount? Sure, about half of the entries probably won't be of the highest quality, but you come out way ahead this way most likely.
If I had that kind of money lying around, it's how I'd do it too.

Yes... would have to say that the DCUO prize seem a bit questionable considering the context.

So yeah I never post, but I've had it with haters on this board.
I dont see anything wrong with this contest. Someone gathers up that much money and prizes, and then offers it out to the art community as a contest, I say cool.
How exactly is this contest any different then any other contest, or art fair in history? Contests for art have been held for centuries, some of them you don't even get anything but a crappy First place ribbon. Ever been to a art fair? County Craft Fair? Heck even comic book companies and magazines have had art contests.
As for DCUO as a prize who cares really? It's a drop in the bucket, the real meat is the money. Doesnt say you have to play DCUO, they are just offering it as a additional prize. I swaer some people would find fault with a twenty dollar bill if someone just gave it to them for free. If you dont want it EBAY it, or give it away, it's not like it cost you any money. I think there is even a condition to opt out of the DCUO prize and have that added to the total money prize.

Oiy.
This is why I wasn't big on advertising this to the Champions art community. Folks get extremely butthurt anytime DCUO is mentioned here. Let's just completely look over the other great prizes being offered, or do you all want to complain because this isn't a Kingdom Hearts forum and we're giving away Disney tickets?
I'll never understand the bitterness within this community. We could be giving away trains, planes, and automobiles and all some of you would see is DCUO and cast it out immediately. In all honesty? Grow up. If you don't like it, don't participate, and the snide comments about this being TA's contest are willdly inaccurate. I don't mean to put his personal business out, but the total amount was a group effort put forth by the entire league in which TA has yet to contribute to. So for him to get hammered with false accusations and ignorant side comments forced my hand to say something.
I appreciate Kebron for being one out of a very small crowd here to have the testicular fortitude to say, "I'm an adult," and drop the childish antics when it comes to DCUO being mentioned here. Its just another prize, and even if you don't want it, we'll be giving you the retail cash value for it.

And I am misunderstood again, this time by someone I know, more or less.
I only feel the DCUO prize is ...questionable, the rest is exactly as I typed it. Imagine the reception this would have gotten about fourteen months ago had this been a copy of Champions Online.. and posted at the CoX boards.. This is mild, friend.
Most individuals and groups buy art, by commissioning it from a specific artist, at the the artists preferred rates or by dealing with said artist on a case by case basis.
Yin, you are an artist, and a damn good one.
What would your going rate be for a large scale, high quality project featuring at least twelve characters go for? [I don't really need or want an answer, this is here for example only. I am not trying to call you out in any way.]
I imagine at least $180, probably more like $240 [that fifteen to twenty dollars per character, hand-waving off the background details completely, since the assumption is that the characters are the focus of the piece, and too much background detail would throw that focus off anyhow.] so most likely, the group could spend this collection to get three to four pieces of high quality at, and possibly one or two more smaller pieces depending on the rates worked out with individual artists.
Now, you're going to tell me it isn't just good sense to spend your groups collected thousand or so dollars and run a contest on a large art community like DA and trade that money in the form of prizes to get two to three times it's value in returned art? That my pointing it out is somehow wrong?
All I said was, it's smart, and if I could do it, I would.
That is, I literally meant that. No snideness or anything implied, or intended to be implied.

Sure you feel should be able to mention DCU here, its only the competition or the people who are giving you free advertising. Why wouldn't that be ok!?! And why wouldn't be ok to mention DCU on their competitors website without so much as mentioning CO!?! And how could it be wrong that someone who's ONLY post is to advertise a contest that doesn't even mention CO on the CO boards AND gives you a prize to the competition? That don't make sense.
Who here is vocal about not playing CO? Raise your hand, Yin. But at least you come back cause you love the community. No, wait, that doesn't make sense either.
Thanks, you guys, for starting the game of "Don't question us!"

While I agree with what Keystone said
when I saw the prizes yesterday I was pretty wowed (I was thinking in-game money first :D) and thought to myself "Huh, if I entered and won, I guess I would end up playing DCUO." I don't think it's a punch in the nuts to CO - sure they may be a competitor, but a lot of people play a variety of games and aren't just devoted to a single one.
