Even worse are the people that don't use the green circle and ask endlessly in global chat where the mission is.

@Speedknob
I've actually felt the same way - but not with the exp loss. Maybe an option just to turn them off would be fun. WoW didn't have this for the longest time, and some missions you had to do days of research online to figure out where to go.
While that was completely over the top aggravating, it definitely made you explore and see the areas much more - which was a whole level of immersion in itself.
Ya, I'd be down with the option to turn those off - as long as they were still an option. Some of the quests definitely don't give enough information to make it mandatory.

I simply say, make it an option to turn them off for those that need the green circles gone to immerse themselves in the game but don't tell me how to immerse myself in a game. One persons sense of immersion I assure you will not coincide with my sense of immersion.

Personally, I don't particularly care for this practice. How many folks just grab a mission without reading it and run for the green circle? Plenty, I'm sure, and I can't say I have never done it. I think that if we had no green circle right away, we would read the missions more, understand them, and be more immersed in a story. Perhaps if you had troubles finding your way, you could ask the quest giver or some other informant for more details in exchange for 5% mission XP (5% = random figure) or some such. It just seems that many of my favorite superhero tales involve detective work as well as muscle; slapping a huge green circle on the map as soon as you get a clue just seems to take a lot of potential fun away. |

The dialog was so long winded in CoX, I never bothered to read...ever. We on the other hand somewhat get a cut scene, but mostly dialogue boxes which I know most people just select the mission and dont read. Look for the green circle and then fly there, and stare at the side thingies until the numbers turn green. Then fly back to the man who gave your the mission. Choose a reward without reading what he said and rince and repeat. What he is saying is that no one find the game overly compelling with story...because no one reads it. Unfortunately it's to late to change it. |
I think a balance between mission info and conveinance is important. A few more cut scenes wouldn't be bad either, tho there are some good ones in game.
We should get: Doctor Destroyer has returned and needs to be stopped! He's in a factory creating an army of robots! Go take him down hero!
What we get is: Doctor Destroyer blahblahblahblahblahblah after his last battle blahblahblahblahblah restored an old factory blahblahblahblahblah is a threat blahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblah Defender is too busy picking his toe nails blahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblah old man river blahblahblahblahblah old Detroit blahblahblahblahblahblahblah robot army blahblahblahblahblah my shoe blahblahblahblahblah try to stop him blahblahblahblah its all Speedknob's fault blahblahblah blah blah!

Once SWTOR comes out go play that, everyone NPC, even you, talks, and I've heard they missions are awsome, not like go collect 15 monkey butts because I told you to.
That should let you feast on the detective work you haven't got with CO.

Honestly i am spending more Time making new Costumes for my Alts then Questing - most of the Missions are Standard Stuff like go there kill X then come back ,i like doing them ONE Time ,maybe even reading the Story behind it ,but after it i just go on with go to Green Circle ,finish Mission go on to next.
So on my second Run to 40 with Blight i spent more Time in Zombie Apocalypse ( because its more fun then repeating already known Missions )
then somewhere else - ending with Canada/Desert and Millenium City Mission Strings completed ,but Monster Island and Lemuria completly untouched
( only did the Crisis to be able to acess them for SG Activitys )
and Vibora Bay only the first few Missions

I'm on both sides of this (depending on mood, circumstance, and blood-alchohol level).
On the one hand, I like to read, always have. I've had my share of entertainment from opening the lore listings in the lore window, and reading though a completed lore set. That is however, at a time of my choosing, usually either when I'm waiting for a teamate, or just don't feel like smacking around the baddies atm.
On the other hand, I've run through every mission (even the hidden ones) in MC, Canada, and the Desert at least twenty times, and those on Monster Island at least 15, in VB at least 10. Lemuria, not so much. The first time or two I read, after that, I just run for the green circle like a lemming runs for a cliff-edge.
On the one hand, the descriptions given in the mission text are often vague at best, more often giving some backstory to the mission, or the "why", as opposed to the "how" of the mission (which is fine with the green circle system)
On the other hand, there are people asking some seriously bone-headed questions in zone chat. I'm not talking about new players (finding Briana's diary or the Bloodmobile can be a pain if you don't know), I'm talking about the stupid ones who ask a question a few seconds of thought, a brief perusal of the mission text, or a glance at their map would answer, "Were can I findz Burt Jakson?!?!?!" (sic), or pertaining to the demon summoning in Westside: "I've been waiting for eeeevvvveeer! Is the mission bugged?". Demon spawns at night, dumbass, just like it says in the mission text, as well as THE FRICKIN' MISSION TITLE!
...holy &%$*...
I HAVE FOUR HANDS!!!
