I am an RPer, and with the range on Local chat and the amount of people often in one place while you RP, it can get 'noisy' so to speak. This was a problem in City of Heroes/Villains, and it is just as much of a problem in Champions Online. However, City of Heroes -did- have this option where it would randomly color each person's name. This made it a little easier to sort out the posts of people you were directly interacting with, without having to watch for chat bubbles and try to read them before they go bye bye.
I was thinking, would it be possible to make a function so when you right-click someone's name, one of the options in the drop down is to give that person a color of your choice? This way you could keep track of people you wanted to, and be able to give different people different colors (or all the same color, should that be your choice). I think this would be a relatively easy but useful function to add, though I know little of programming and for all I know it could be very complex. But I think it is something many RPers would appreciate, and it would also be useful in events like costume contests as well.

Galaxies lot you do this and it was quite handy.
I like the idea of color coding other players chat...
I liked when COH have the star rating system...
I'd llike to be able color code chat based on the star value...

I was a big fan of the colored name system in CoX and the player notes ability. Something that lets you sort out players nearby would be great.

I could definantly see the use in this would make RPing with people easier if you color code the people you want to focus on so you can not miss when they talk because it hapens a lot, expecially in club caprice when the instance is crouded

How about this and reducing the local chat distance, It seems like its gotten larger lately, I've been able to hear conversations from across the room where as before it was only halfway across, Devs please help reduce chat clutter!!

If we could just create our own, separate chat windows, that'd be a great help. In CoH, I used to make 1 window for broadcast & request, another for local, team, and SG, another for xp, yet another for dmg dealt/received/healing/etc. That would be a great help in keeping things neat and clean.

Biostem, you -can- do this, jsut right-click any of your chat tabs, and you can edit the chat tab, or add new ones with only the channels you want. But we're talking even with that, just in Local channel things get cluttered. it'd also be helpful for non-RPers in Zone who are trying to follow a particular conversation, and it can get hard with the clutter.
EDIT: I reread what you said, and I realized you said windows, not tabs, sorry.

Color coded names would be a big help actually in local, zone and everywhere else. It was one of the features I liked most concerning chat in CoH. As far as chat distance, I dunno what will be sovled since a lot of people tend to occupy themselves in a small cramped area to begin with.

Yes, please. It's one thing to have color-coded channels. But when you're in CC and the chat range is effectively the entire room, it's hard to follow.
