Depends on your passives and to a lesser degree power choices rather than powerset

I want to stay true to the power set.. if I have more options I might go into martial art tree to keep in theme.

What passives are you using. STR/REC will actually serve you quite well, not only giving you higher energy reserves for burst damage but boosting up your knock resistance, your Rage bonus from Enrage as well as making you knock harder and able to break out of physical holds easier. If you take Regen as a defnesive REC is also a want in there to.

well if you wanna stick true to the powerset, str\rec the recommended works. Also gives you a decent regeneration.. Pestilence isn't very good for melee, and kinda nichey for ranged.

If you wanna mix in some MA, str\dex will work great, though if you were going to do that i'd recommend looking into Way of the enlightened and one of the forms.
