I don't normally get mad about things on forums or thing about the game in general, but now I am flat out upset. thanks to whatever/whoever I cannot create MY own original character "The Michigan Statesman" because people seems to have felt the need to make/report rip of characters and now the "statesman" part of my name is restricted.

I've been writing comics for over 16 years and I am working on my first publication this year with my series "the Chronicles of Michigan Statesman" about a prodigy MSU (Michigan States University) football player who acquires super power after an accident. Now I understand protecting themselves from legal harm and all, but I played my character all throughout beta with no problems at all. The fact that the word "Statesman" may in fact belong to a copyrighted characters from Cryptics' previous endeavor "City of Heroes" which I have been a customer of for the past 5 years. It is also a standard word and title used in everyday politics.

Quote:
"Statesman or stateswoman or statesperson is usually a politician or other notable public figure who has had a long and respected career in politics or government at the national and international level. As a term of respect, it is usually left to supporters or commentators to use the term. When politicians retire, they are often referred to as elder statesmen.

Statespersonship also conveys a quality of leadership that organically brings people together and of eldership, a spirit of caring for others and for the whole.

The words statesman or stateswoman are applied loosely to any head of state, any senior political figure, or anyone who in a given moment exhibits a certain quality of "statespersonship

* Main Entry: statesĀ·man
* Pronunciation: \ˈstāts-mən\
* Function: noun
* Date: 1592
1 : one versed in the principles or art of government; especially : one actively engaged in conducting the business of a government or in shaping its policies
2 : one who exercises political leadership wisely and without narrow partisanship." -- via Wikipedia and Webster's Dictionary
I am am a bit upset and disappointed by this the fact I cannot now play my forerunner flagship character of my comic company with his given name is very discouraging to me as a customer and a writer. I'm really not trying to rant and rave to much here I'm merely pointing out how much this restricted name deal can be a double edged sword, yes it stops those from making and running around with copyrighted characters but it also may stop other from making their original creations whether they be from childhood or a random thought.

I will adjust to this, but I find this a bit unnerving that people can't make characters with a very common word int he name.

Thank you for reading, I know there will be some flamers and fan-boys, but please note I know this will not change nothing, but I hope that it catches the attention of someone who has faced the same issues and agree with me that someone is being a little bit over protective.

Jack Emmert was Statesman when he was over at city of Heroes. Of course that word gets on the restricted filters.
