Are they drops, are they perk items, or are they some special quest reward?

They sound like drops, how you get the different swords from missions. So they could possibly be the same. Just a guess though since I'm not in early access ; _ ;

That and bashing destructible items for Perk points latter... I think its 500 for a Perk pay-out.. kinda like a Hero pinata.. So toss that car at the Qulaar...

I beta'd all those items and your really gonna have some fun with them..
The power replacers boost ya good.. its all about the stats..

Course some of thee items are for other schools so trade with friends.. its all good.

also if you do the 2 peks cqan get 2 pets the mini silverback is well cool
