When you reach max level in CO you can completely redo your character anyway, once, for free, so there's really no pressure there.

Well, depending on f you want to go freeform/gold or stick with ATs/silver, or invest in a Gold AT, that advice could change dramatically...

For FF, at least until they nuke the forums, Combat and Powers s chock-full of excellent guides and nformation, as is the CO Wiki...

AT wise, Glacier and Behemoth (based on Ice and Might) are both free, and though its not a "Tank", and a Premium, paid AT, Savage has very good tools for respectable DPS and good survivability....

This is a subscriber benefit, so if you are a silver player, this will not apply. The good news is that silvers have a lot fewer choices to worry about.

The advice I would give is head over to the free player forums and check out the guides there. They certainly helped me when I was getting started. And you should be careful with your travel power. If you pick it at level 6 and then decide at 40 that you want to change, it costs serious resources. A way around this is to remove it every time you go back to the powerhouse to train. It sounds pricey, but it helps in the long run. Just my advice.

I'd say don't start playing. And I mean that seriously. It'll save yourself from alot of headaches and frustrations, amongst other things.

Above anything else, pick powers or an Archetype that you feel you'll enjoy playing. I like to come up with a concept in my head then see what power set(s) can help me realize it. Stick to what you find fun, but take full advantage of the facilities in the power house to test things out before you commit to any decisions. Also don't hesitate to seek out players who have been playing for a while, as they may be able to share their insight as to what works and what doesn't.

Welcome to CO and enjoy your time here!

(Oh, and try to ignore the negativity.)

to the Thread Starter:
At the very first you should read about the archtypes .. if youre a roleplayer its doesent makes a difference since you will stuck at roleplay al the time XD
I have started with a Soldier ( only needs to be teamed at soem missions ) and it isstil my main char andthe most fun for me ^^
on my 2nd characterslot ive made many charcters and then deleted them.... my 2nd character was a radiant because i was able to solo things with it, btu then they released "The Invincible" and i immediatly bought it because i had something like that in mind when i started playing this game...
Ive to say that i am very happy with that Archtype since i can solo everything ,, if you dont want to spend money and still want to play a good tank then go for Glacier .. ive trried it and it is also fun to play ( especially when you get locus ^^ )

SInce i am not that melee type in this game i would no sugest making one...since attacks cancel and yeah it difficult to play compared to soldier...(( a tip for that is to press F ( defaut keybind ) then your toon walks after the enemy automaticly )

The game starts becomign real fun at lvl 40 , because you have all skills then and you can do epic battles against cool enemies.

everything mentioned above is just my personal experience, you may feel different!!!

ive used 6 days for my First char to lvl up to lvl 40 due to lack on information about the game.

all other chars needed 2 -3 days to level up to level 40.

Quicktips:
After completing the tutorial and reaching level 10 you have alot more customization items at the tailor.

If you want a free costume slot you can ask people to join their supergroup to get the costumse slot

Once youve reached lvl 14 you can Join alerts. ( you can join before but then ur only a jerk to the most PUGs die to your little dmg )

When you have reached lvl 25 , meet up with the MCPD chief behind the city hall, you can create a villain against wich you have to fight in the future. ( read more at co-wiki )

Maybe have atleast 1 friend playing with you, it is even faster and more fun.

If youre not in a haste to level up your chars you may complete Adventure Packs and Crisises ( read more at co-wiki ).

Never buy consumables or things from auctions , keep your money until level 40 and see yourself...many peopel make the fault to go to actions an buy things for more money than needed.

i hope this helped a bit.. if u find bad grammar or typos.. well im sorry then XD

Considering the pending Region bans - They shouldn't be, or how player feedback is largely ignored. Giving a new person reason for pause is justified.

Telling him to ignore the "negativity" when you're aware of what's on the horizon, now that's a disservice.
