Ok designers. We've been called out. Stormshade our new point man is wondering around in this hideous toon:

We need to get him some new threads and fast! Post your ideas in here by Friday, February 19th. We'll compile all the results and then decide as a group which costume he should use that best represents what the CO creator can do.

Here are the details we know so far:

- He'll have the Cryptic logo on the front. Not sure if the shirt comes with the logo so consider that.
- He's darkness/electricity
- His bio reads: "Stormshade is the Online Community Representative for Champions Online with Cryptic Studios. "

I would say from this link the chances are pretty high it's part of the shirt. And the Cryptic color scheme seems pretty set on black and blue. Not sure if we should keep with that color scheme or not.

Stormshade sounds more like an elemental to me. So I took that and ran. I made a few of them to see how it would look in slightly different styles.

Mmmm, so so far all you got is one of those guys from Big Trouble in little China - man sooo old already, seen so many of those chumps in the field, and personally that look only works when your in a tri imo - oh and a badguy trio at that - lets get away from that whole mortal combat vibe pls pls pls.

I think your current outfit is prety good Stormshade, its good that your keeping away from looking to WoW, Ill see what our chief armourer and buildmasters can suggest for you, any preferences genre wise? Silver age, Golden age? Silverstri age? Neoretro, GlamSoc? Personaly I think you could do far worse than some nice Kirby/Romita jnr speed stripes and a tight fitting venture suit, throw in some goggles and your golden.

I would set my electrical power to a violet color adding to the effects of the costume. Chest emblem is to show the place where the Cryptic Logo is to go.

You can use the defender gloves and boots in place of the Serpent style I show. Just color to match.

I thought I'd give it a shot and provide my take on what Stormshade would look like.

The name reminds me of a certain G.I. Joe character so I went with a possessed swordsman. Part of his body is consumed by a demonic spirit. This entity gives him access to supernatural powers (dark/electricity) which come from his left hand. It works well with Single Blade as the right (Unpossessed) hand is used for weapon attacks.

I thought we can completely revamp his costume if we want; do we have to keep the hat??? We need to show what the CO character creater can do right?

My real profesion is graphic design and illustration + I'm a female and I say that hat makes him look dumb; no offence.

I'm thinking he needs to look cool, hot, and rich aside from the super hero part. He needs to be the ultimate man. Not just superhero, but attractive to us ladies while still remaining bad a**.

But then again, I think most superhero's look really dumb. Batman was really the only cool, hot, rich ultimate super hero. IMO.

But if the hat has to stay; please clarify. The best designers can make even the ugly things pretty; and it would present more of a challenge. And since I'm trapped in my house from blizzard after blizzard with my fiance driving me insane, I do need a design challenge thats fun. I don't have any real design work to do right now. =p

It's the hat man. It was easy to fixate on that because it stands out from the generic Crypic Dev suit as being the most defining thing about his costume.

I also threw it on the PTS to see how it'd look with assorted energy forms. I don't know how feasible it'd be for actual in-game play, but Shadow form with Electric Sheath activated at the same time looked pretty nifty.

Guess I'll try my hand at this.

I wanted to retain the hat and the sorta "mysticism" feel I was getting out of it. Combined it with a little tech to help channel that inherent charge you're running, Stormshade. Cryptic emblem goes into where the "C" is.

You can try anything you want. In fact I personally recommend making costumes without the hat to vary up the possibilities. We've already got some outstanding choices with the hat already. It'll be easier to stand out with out it.

I'd like to see some of the following types of toon versions:

- Furry (he, he)
- Giant Monster
- Machine/Robot
- Cyborg
- Vampire/Zombie/Gladiator/Reptile
- Kid
- Deity
- Mythological type toon (Think Zeus or Mercury)
- Golden age (my personal favorite)
- Militaristic

I've went with a Dark Mystic theme adding in an Electricity touch to suit his build, and used black and blue as he chose those colors himself.

Well I went with the CO logo colors. The screenshots came out darker then I made him, but he has red lighting on the top and yellow/orange on the bottom. While he isn't quite a cyborg, he does have a robotic hand and leg. I played with the glow effects too. I wanted to try to show the abilites with the character creater by making his parts asymetric. I also left the cape blank incase you wanted to put the cryptic logo on it.

Oh and there is a glitch in the creater. His left foot is supposed to be leather, but it got stuck as metal.

I made some alts some with the blue color and some with the logo colors. I made a cyber demon. The demon aspect is supposed to represent the darkness while the electricity is part of his robotic aspect.

That's not a problem. The PTS server has its own folder to save the costumes into but since you posted the save file we can do what we want with it.

I just meant in relation to some specific costume loading bugs. Some still exist on the current PTS build (in the process of being eliminated on the internal build that will be heading to PTS next), and Live might have problems loading some costumes that don't cause problems even on the current PTS build (I just didn't check before heading off to sleep).

I tried to come up with a costume two nights ago but this one just dominates anything I can think of if I use keep the straw hat. I totally love how the black looks like it has taken over his body - ala Venom style.

I was going to the PTS Tailor and found i could make a Cryptic Corps Clone Logo one of my toons has the Defender Boot shin guards but i could not get another PTS slot for the concept.


The Concept Would be like a Home and Away Sport Team Uniform as Cryptic Corps is a SG [of GMs]
Now its like the official Military standard look.? one selected by the boss..

The Cryptic Orange and Yellow alt logo idea like the Champions Lettering on the Exclusive boxed ed is nice.
Maybe if you had an ATARI Cape Broach pin?

So do you have any preferences Stormy? Keep the straw hat or not? Certain colors preferred? We may be making all these costumes, but honestly it's your character that you have to stare at for 40 levels.

Do you have a bio or background you thought of for the character? Possible examples might be.

Lightning struck like a judgement from on high and the poor soul who had once inhabited the body no longer had control. Stormshade was born that day, little is known of his past, or his reason for being here. He feels compelled to fight crime without knowing the reason why, just the need to do so.

Young Jimmy Shade always was a weak child, his nervous system suffering from a debilitating disorder that didn't allow his nerves to respond as quickly as other peoples. His parents being famous super heroes got the assistance from their allies and tried an untested procedure to install nanites to boost his nervous system. Not only did it work, but it gave him powers beyond his imagination, the nanites not only jump started his nervous system but accelerated it to allow him to project electricity. The process also awakened his natural mutation inherited from his father to create and manipulate darkness. Now under the banner of Stormshade he fights for whats right just like his parents do.

Either of these would likely have very different costumes they'd use.

Hey thought I'd post up my effort.

I chose to stick to the Cryptic black blue and white but changed some of the shades. I still wanted him to gel well with other members of the Cryptic Team. I ditched the straw hat because although kinda cool I felt it just didn't fit.

So a little about me... I like the clean "classic cool" look when it comes to characters. I tend to go with solid colors, with not too many mixed colors when I'm making my characters.

Also, since this is the costume I'll become known by in-game, it shouldn't be too scary. I know it sounds silly, but since I'm your OCR, I want to look approachable in game, much like I would if we met at a convention like PAX or E3. So, for my purposes, I would prefer a costume that isn't "scary". Also, my favorite color is blue (Which is part of the reason why I like my current costume).

So, here's a couple of ones that stood out to me for different reasons (Note: I really like both of these. Don't get me wrong, everything that's been submitted is awesome so far, and I'm not just saying that because I have to.)

This one (http://forums.champions-online.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=7788&d=1265777612) is pretty close to what I have now, while still offering some new looks, and I love the cape on it too. The wizard look is always a good one imo, but it seems to lack some symmetry for some reason. It's an awesome costume though, and I'd wear it with pride! :cool:

I really do like all of the costumes you guys have made so far though, they're simply astounding, and I think it's a testament to what you guys can do with the character creator and is pretty darned awesome! I can't wait to see what you guys narrow it down to! :D

If you want clean lines, blue colors, and a classic hero look, then I'd like to donate my design for my hero Knighthawk.

Here, take a look! Two shades of blue, a little black and white, nice heroic design.

Feel free to modify it a bit, I used a helmet since my character was a Race biker who gained super speed, so his costume and helmet reflect a biker image.

So, here's a couple of ones that stood out to me for different reasons (Note: I really like both of these. Don't get me wrong, everything that's been submitted is awesome so far, and I'm not just saying that because I have to.)

The wizard look is always a good one imo, but it seems to lack some symmetry for some reason. It's an awesome costume though, and I'd wear it with pride! :cool:

Then there is this one (http://forums.champions-online.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=7801&d=1265839322), which is simply amazing. That said, If I had that costume on and was wandering around a convention, I'd probably scare babies. In my situation, that's probably a bad thing. ;)

I really do like all of the costumes you guys have made so far though, they're simply astounding, and I think it's a testament to what you guys can do with the character creator and is pretty darned awesome! I can't wait to see what you guys narrow it down to! :D

As far as details into the making of this costume, I took into account what you said, and that your name was StormShade. Storm implies a lightning-theme while shade implies the use of at least one dark color. The colors present in this costume are simply Black, White, and Blue, the cape being a gradient due to it's type.

Actually I think if you lightened the dark blue up a bit and added a halo it would be a friendly looking design. Maybe change up the gloves for non-claw ones.

We prolly shoulda figured out what Stormy wanted on the first page, but awesome costumes so far even if they aren't the style he would like. We know better for any future Costumer Eyes for the Dev Guys contests.

Actually I don't think the blue cyborg human one looks that scary. The demon ones look really sweet even if they don't fit the criteria thanks for sharing them with us.

Seems to me that people seem to have forgotten the sliders for body and head customization. Although technically I guess the body/head arent the costume, I still think people should try some radical or even subtle body adjustments to give ShadowStorm a genuinely cool and approachable look in game.

Many folks in game look like joe blow in a snappy suit, when with a little playing on those sliders you can shoot the look through the stratosphere imo.

I suppose to avoid being called a Troll I should realy put my money where my fingers are and contribute, so ll8r.

Not a bad idea. I've seen some great ones - particularly ones geared to look like kids. Offender's kid version come to mind...

As Stormshade obviously likes his colours and concept I didn't stray too far. I went for a more traditional oriental look but with a slight twist. As he didn't mention his origin, I went with a mutant and gave him glowing eyes and in the last version, blue skin too :p The logo would be on the front in the first design and on the back in the last two. I think the last one is my favourite, but since he wanted a human look, it may not be the best fit.

This one is more Golden Age as he said he liked simple costumes. The logo would be on the cape in this case, assuming that is possible. If not then this look wouldn't work as well. The hair is spikey as it has a lot of static electricity :p I left it default, as I don't know what colour hair he has.

Edit: Re-did previous one in new colours and added a cape as Stormshade he liked capes. Also changed vest in case Cryptic logo not available on capes or he prefers it on chest,

Here is a refinement of my prior entry, intended to have body build, right eye color, skin tone, and face and face features except left eye and thunderbolt modified (that is, I did pick the build to be fairly heroic but not too imposing, but I intended to leave those aspects as sort of a blank slate).

Some screenshots are also included, including some costume color changing effects for some Darkness powers...and the observation that the scariness sometimes in evidence can't be helped... ;)

Went to try some more classic/simple alternatives to the flame effect, which seemed less appealing in stills than in motion, and couldn't really keep away from the classically simple but stylish lightning bolt option, though I think a symmetric option for it would be the one thing I'd ask the costume artists to keep in mind as I say "please make more" :)

- This one blew me away. The detail that was involved with making the black area look like it took over a part of the toon’s body is awesome. It has a Venom/Spiderman look and could be used for a Nemesis or character. Very well done.

The post that lists all characters only had my one crappy looking Costume file screenshot, but my original post (http://forums.champions-online.com/showpost.php?p=1472114&postcount=49) also links to his CO page.

It's also accessible from the link in my sig to my characters, the character name is KnightHawk.. I expected you'd just use my design as a basis from which to make your own.

Alright, this was really, really hard. You guys are all awesome, and very talented! I'm really impressed with everything you all made.

That said, every contest has to have a winner right?

So, Nexus, for this character, I'm going to be using your entry (http://forums.champions-online.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=7847&d=1266040105).

I'll be changing over my play through character to this costume as soon as I have the resources for it.

Also, it just so happened that I needed to make a character for our Dev SG, which will be used for PvP events, and other in-game events. So, in order to fit in with the rest of the team, I made some minor changes, which I hope you won't mind too terribly much:

I hope you like it as much as I do. :D Aside from the obvious color changes, I used the Champions Logo, Defenders Boots, and Defenders Gloves. Right now, with Nexus' ok, that's what I'll be using to own you all (Read: be owned by you all) in PvP on Friday!

Nexus, if those changes aren't cool with you, let me know and I'll change it back.

I hope you all approve of my new look! We just took some screen shots of the whole Dev SG that I'm going to work on getting posted up later on this week.

Very nice choice. I almost said something about that costume. Also, I highly doubt he'll mind that he amended the costume to fit in your Dev SG.

Thanks. :) Feel free to take what works for you. It'd be an enormous compliment to start seeing new characters in-game that were inspired the concept.

Kinda "two-fold" actually cause I was only working with what the artists at Cryptic gave us so you'd be doing good by their work as well.

Well, I'm leveling right now. Currently I'm in Canada. I always post to Twitter just before I log in, and I post when I'm done as well. Of course, since I also need to be here on the forums a great deal, I really only log about an hour a day. I'm also always on during the Live events (Sans this last one as I was out of the office that day). So, keep an eye out for me, I'm sure we'll eventually meet up!

Indeed. After I get my degree I will be putting a portfolio online or in the mail for the art department...or you could let me run that cryptic blog and do interviews on skype an post them up when new stuff gets up. :rolleyes:
