After watching those clone threads for a while, I suddenly realized that the only heroes you could legally copy within this game, were the actual Champions…
And I figured, since we are BOUND to encounter alternate versions of the Champions in the future, why not make our own.
So here is the alternate reality I came up with, along with the Champions, re-imagined:
- Alternate Reality Concept:
Within the Dimension 055, the Battle of Detroit has never happened; and as a result, the entire planet lies in ruins. A couple of years ago, Obliterator, the most dangerous villain of all, managed to trick a massive Qulaar fleet into invading the Earth by making them believe that it was actually a forward Gadroon colony intent on decimating their own planet. Obliterator’s plan was simple; he would coax the Qulaar into attacking humanity and then seize control of the planet for himself, while both sides would be too busy exterminating one another. His own minions would then drive the Qulaars back where they came from, and Albert Zerstoiten would take his rightful place as tyrant of the Earth.
At first, there was very little victory to be found for the defenders of the Earth; the Qulaar Fleet struck quickly and without mercy, and it soon became clear that the invading aliens would be victorious. However, this was not meant to be; the world’s premiere hero, Protector, soon uncovered Obliterator’s plot and forced him to overplay his hand as the world’s heroes united to destroy the Qulaar mother ship.
Obliterator’s plot was foiled, the Qulaars defeated, but the Earth… was in ruin.
- Supergroup Name: The Champions
- Roster:
Protector (Defender)
7058
Bio:
Unlike his regular counterpart, James Harmon IV was always fully aware of his illustrious legacy; and when he was done learning all that he could about technology, he built a futuristic power armor that soon propelled him to the rank of one of the world foremost heroes. However, it was only when the Qulaars struck, that Protector truly understood the full extent of his responsibilities. Having spearheaded the American offensive, Protector is one of the few veteran heroes who survived the Qulaar invasion; but what truly made him famous, was his victory against one of Obliterator's most powerful minion, the nuclear super soldier Megaton. But regardless of his accomplishment, the war irrevocably changed James Harmon IV. To this day, he remains obsessed by the threat that Obliterator poses to the earth, and remains convinced that if he is not there to defend it, it will almost irrevocably fall under his iron grip.
Nowadays, Protector has taken it upon himself to gather like-minded heroes in order to take down Obliterator, which is how the Champions were born…
Costume Concept:
The idea for protector is something along the line of a more battle-hardened Defender, with some patriotic twist added to it. Notice in particular, the American Flag colors and the fact that, for some reasons, I always feel like the original Defender might be a little overweight due to his skin-tight costume.
Daggerclad (Ironclad)
7057
Bio:
A Dorvalan by heart, but not by birth; Daggerclad was born on Malva and had never seen much of the outside world, aside from the Gladiatorial Arena. His entire life, Daggerclad has worked himself into the perfect killing machine against the toughest of foes that the universe had to offer; he accumulated honors after honors, until no one even dared to step foot in the arena to face him. Having earned a title without equal on Malva, Daggerclad was offered a boon by the ruler of the planet; and as such, he requested for the one thing of worth in the universe, the Arena itself. Unfortunately, Daggerclad was perfectly aware that he was no administrator; instead, he took upon himself to find new blood for the Arena, until he could find a foe worthy of himself. And that person, turned out to be Protector, the hero of the Qulaar invasion.
However, Protector would have nothing with the Malvan Gladiatorial Arena, and Daggerclad refused to take no for an answer. But unfortunately, the two warriors were evenly matched; Daggerclad proved to be an immensely powerful and tireless foe, to the point that Protector started to fear for his life and that of his teammates. The latter took a contract with his pursuer; in exchange for 30 years of service to the Champions, Protector would willingly travel to Malva in order to compete and, quite possibly, die upon the sands of the Arena. Of course, three decades means almost nothing to a Malvan, and Protector clearly has no intension to fulfill his half of the bargain, as he figures, he will probably have retired from his crime fighting career by then.
Needless to say, Daggerclad and Protector are rivals in all things, and it is unlikely that the latter will live past the deadline of their contracts.
Costume Concept:
The whole thing is essentially wordplay on the name. Mostly, the idea was to make a very buff ninja with as much weapons as I possibly could (Result: 11). Mostly, I really like the dragon tattoo on the metallic skin, it almost seems like it’s bleeding.
Synaptic (Kinetik)
7060
Bio:
Synaptic was once human, or so would his fellow Champions would like to believe… Truth is, he was once the son of a well-known hero, and was personally gifted with phenomenal regenerative capabilities; however, this gift also proved to be one of the primary sources of his wretched existence. After having crossed Obliterator's organization one time too many, the latter finally decided to make an example out of Synaptic father. Zerstoiten murdered the man along with his entire family, with the slight exception of his beloved son. Obliterator recognized the boy’s latent power and took him under his wing until the time was right to use him as part of his experiments; and that time, came all too soon when the Qulaars invaded and that Zerstoiten managed to get a hold of some of the aliens' most vile technology.
Obliterator used Synaptic as a guinea pig in order to augment his own minions with Qulaar biotechnology; but unfortunately, the latter was the only who successfully grafted with vile protoplasmic organism. Left as little more than s self-loathing monster, Synaptic was relegated to the rank of an expandable henchman, which did little to improve the man's loyalty to his master. When Protector and Amethyst infiltrated the Qulaar mother ship, Synaptic was there and bargained for his life with his knowledge of Zerstoiten plan, and as such, is one of the main reasons why the heroes succeeded in their endeavor. With the terrible wrath of Obliterator hanging upon his head, Synaptic traded much of his knowledge of the villainous organization, in exchange for protection against his former master.
Surprisingly enough, Synaptic's heroic background soon became one of Champions' most valuable asset; even though his fellows have yet to decide whether he can be trusted or not.
Costume Concept:
Something of a cross between the infested Samir Duran from the original Starcraft and the Tyrannids from Warhammer 40k. I also added the Kinetik glasses for good measures. The chest / back spikes are especially nice to me.
Amethyst (Sapphire)
7056
Bio:
When the Qulaar struck, the American government had no choice but to conscript every able-bodied men and women they could find; and since she lacked the proper political backing to avoid the conscription, Amethyst was forced to quit her signing career to pursue that of the military. Unfortunately however, she proved extremely unsuited for that role; and as such, she has suffered quite a few mental breakdowns during the war. And it was during such a time, that her latent mutant power awakened. Beset by an innumerable number of Qulaar drones, Amethyst and her unit were struggling to hold their position when an alien grenade took down half of their numbers; the latter was cowering within her trench and watched, helplessly, as her friends were being killed one by one.
Alone and terrified, Amethyst completely lost it, and actually tried to return fire upon the invading forces; unfortunately, her limited ammo didn’t last long and she was repeatedly shot by the aliens, only to realize that she was impervious to it. She retreated and as she smashed her way through a Qulaar bio tank, she realized that her hair were actually beginning to lose their color… It was only when she successfully managed to make it back to her camp, that the confused looks of the soldiers finally confirmed that there was actually something wrong with her. Her entire skin had turned into purplish rock and seemed to have developed something akin to super strength; along with an uncanny resilience to just about anything…
That was when she came upon Protector, who was trying to help the American Army drive back the Qulaars. Having studied quite a lot about genetic mutation when he was younger, James explained to her what was going on with her body and subsequently offered her to become his sidekick, in order to help her harness her newfound power; to which she reluctantly agreed. During that time, Amethyst was highly decorated for her efforts during the war and is one of the few heroes, who have actually survived the Qulaar invasion.
Now the number 2 of the Champions; Amethyst seems to have developed quite a crush on Protector, to whom she looks up as the most important person in her world. Of course, she is well aware that someone like James Harmon IV would never fall for a freak like her; and as such, has remained silent on the subject until now. Protector, on the other hand, has yet to pronounce himself on the matter; as he has more than his own share of issues to deal with.
Costume Concept:
I really liked Brick_House’s might character which somehow served as an inspiration for Amethyst. Also, Sapphire is presented as a very fashionable character within ‘Spandex in the City’ and you can also tell that by looking at her in the tutorial. Mostly, I think I just wanted to do a rocky woman with a biker’s jacket…
Spellcraft(Witchcraft)
7059
Bio:
Arguably the most powerful mystic practitioner in the world, Spellcraft was always one of a kind. As her sister sucked up every dark spells that the Circle of the Scarlet Moon would teach her; Spellcraft longed for more, and soon set off to learn from the most brilliant minds of the magical world. Very gifted within her own field, Spellcraft grew up to be a bit of a recluse, and within her books; she found the arcane knowledge that she had coveted for so long. Many foolhardy magic users have tried to take her down in the past, either to appropriate themselves her knowledge or for the fame that such a deed would award them; and with the Circle of the Scarlet Moon and her own sister on her tracks, it soon became clear that she would have to make some compromise in order to maintain her privacy. Spellcraft is now nominally a member of the Champions; and as such, has agreed to lend her mystical expertise to their cause, even though she had little desire for the company of others.
Costume Concept:
I really don’t like Witchcraft avatar in game… Honestly, I thought she was just a real ugly boy when I first saw her in the launch trailer… So, I wanted to do something more along the line of the box art and something a tad more arcane; which explains the blue and purple highlights. Also, the cowl just looks awesome I think; a shame that chest wear can’t get capes though…

And that's it. There was no point really, I just couldn't let a good twisted idea go to waste. Wanna comment, wanna post your own Champions Universe clone, go ahead.
