Was planning on spending this time farming the ridiculous amount of stuff I need to get all the perks. All companies that provide widespread support have developers on call during holidays. It sucks when it happens, especially since it usually falls on 1-2 people. It is even worse since they are probably working remotely.

At one point my company was going to put me on call 24/7/356 (actually 331 if you remove vacation time). That idea got slammed down pretty quickly.

Off hours were for emergency only, but how we define emergencies and how customers define them was totally different. Got to love upper management's "bright ideas" without understanding how it would actually work.

On a semi-related note, earlier this month I reported the bug about not being able to improve crafting skill level. I received a generic response from customer service stating that it is a "developmental version of the game" and that it is a constant work in progress.

Wouldn't that be alpha or beta? How long has this game been out? :P

I am sure it was just some idiot using an outdated response template, but I found it funny (and slightly insulting). Luckily it was fixed 1-2 days later.

My wife and I are in the mountain on a local wireless provider. It sucks and lags a lot. We are further out than most other so get bandwidth last. Our ISP was worthless earlier today and made the game unplayable. We try it now and the internet is pretty strong and we rejoiced to sign on and play together. Now this... Kind've expected it though, runs right along with most our recent luck, hehe.

Am glad for the devs working on it though. Just hope it isn't ruining thier day. Hopefully they are volunteers, because I know some people don't mind a little work on holidays either for the extra pay or because they have little else to do. Either way, Merry Christmas ( to everyone!), we apprecaite you.

The really sucky part is that the login server is completely down as well. So that means that the forum server won't accept my name and password, and I had to use an old HTML trick to login in the first place.

I was actually thinking of heading there but i wasn't sure if they had carried them as it's a fairly new game, and it hasn't gotten popular yet, blah blah blah. But yes, after the overwhelming traffic(i still have 7 days of the trial, but i want to get past 15 :[) of shoppers uncrowds the streets, i may find myself heading to Best Buy. :) Cryptic did a very nice job of developing this one!

Ignoring the snickers, you get 30 free days with the purchase of the game. If you want to renew it you can do it through this site.

I would wait until later in the week to renew if you have to do it by gamer cards, especially if you have 7 days left. The login server has been down for hours and from the last company post should hopefully be up within the next hour. If you REALLY want to push you could probably get 1 extra day which is kind of deserved across the board.

I play the game for 2 days now and I've already experienced a LOT of issues :o

Beta-key bugged
Bloodmoon-weekend took me like the whole weekend to patch
Couldn't log in @ Demo for a long time
And now the servers are down for an unkown reason? ..

Cryptic still has a LOT of work to be done on CO.. or get more employees.. :rolleyes:
Also the gameplay isnt too smooth either :P

For what it's worth (probably not much) server integrity is an issue for any large scale network. Especially when it has to support so much data. The problem could be anything, even hardware, no matter how much money you spend on hardware, there is still a chance a memory chip, or processor, will go down the toilet.


Someone posted earlier about a cup of joe and some cookies. I like that idea.

You've played for 2 days now but you were in beta? Beta is not final release and is so we can test it only. If you had issues at the time, don't count any of that time.

Demo is new so I haven't had a chance to play with it, but with a subscription never will.

Servers went down most likely due to traffic from Christmas presents of the game. It was probably a bit different from the 2 free weekends so they are working on it.

I get the same gameplay issues - it is not smooth in many cases. My connection is very fast so it must be Cryptic's code or servers. It is playable though.

Last update was about an hour ago. They are working on it. At that time, they expected the server to be up in about an hours time. It just surpassed that mark. Usually if they give an estimate, it wont be exact but just that. Estimate...approximate time frame. :)

Okay this is getting annoying. I understand that Xmas holiday there is a small staff but I KNEW THERE WOULD BE AN INFLUX OF NEW PLAYERS. which means THEY knew from their time at City of Heroes. Which means plans should have been in place ahead of time and staff available.

Reminds me of when I downloaded a free trial of Star Wars Galaxy. The servers were down for the whole first day of the free trial, I decided to not even try again.

I'm still on the free trial I got with buying the game and still deciding to spend money on subscribing or not. Maybe they can sell the game to NCSoft so support gets better.

The server will definitely be up before anybody goes home. They don't want to lose customers, though at this point a few losses are inevitable.

I'd like to send out my little thanks as well. The game is rocky, but it's still new! I'm glad to be on this game and able to navigate through the bugs and quirks. I'm also thankful for the people who work through the holidays and made this christmas very wonderful. (I got out of shopping with my Aunt )

It's not the game. As stated, it's the ACCOUNT Server. There have been times when the account server has needed maintenance but people already in the game were unaffected. The account server is a seperate machine that validates the username, password, and account status before passing the login on to the patcher client and then onto the game server.

The Devs are working towards resolution and will not likely post again until they have a target 'up status' time. I would rather have them focus on correcting the problem, than stopping to post a message evry hour that says 'We're still working on it...'. I can watch a little TV, play another game, etc and check every so often to see if CO is up. No one is being forced to sit here and wait.

In this area there have been alot of issues lately with server disconnects and this is the latest in a string. The issues were not experienced before the "misfit toys" patch. I appreciate the guys working on a holiday too, but I fear this may be indicative of larger issues. I hope that things stabilize soon... I personally enjoy the game and the possibilities for expansion, but if I pay for a service, I expect the service to be up.

I really don't want to look for greener pastures, but I can't justify continuing to spend money if we keep having problems.

I have a 10 Mbit pipe, and maintain a streamlined computer, and never experienced these issues a month ago, so I don't know if it is a processor or network saturation problem, or programming problems, but at any case, something should be done to rectify it if the company wants to encourage growth.

NCSoft are a horrible company, They made CoH a grind, Then classes only for level 50s, AE are not their fault but i blame that on them too.:mad:

I think you may mistake my point good sir. I realize not everyone celebrates Christmas, but that fact does not prevent many places from not doing business today. If I were Jewish for example (and I may be) but I wanted to go shopping today, there are many many business in my area that simply are not open today. As for Cryptic not being prepared to run a successful business, I think the fact that they have staff on hand working through solutions to resolve the problem on a day that, regardless of ones religious affiliation, is a difficult day to get work done - well, I think they have succeeded.

Now, I realize my defense of them wins me the "fanboi" classification, but thats okay. It doesn't change the fact that members of the Cryptic staff are working on the day of a major holiday in their area, and I appreciate it.

Ug, people had to be called in on Christmas to fix an account server issue so a bunch of restless game nerds could play computer games...

Sorry for that... I appreciate you guys coming in but at the same time I hate being part of the mass that made it happen.

I do feel a little better and deserving knowing I spent hundreds of dollars on gifts for my kids to get them out of my hair these precious few hours that are painfully going by without CO just so I could play in fact play CO, hehe.

First thing my wife and I said this morning, "Hey maybe now we can play CO without the kids hounding us. They got all these toys and movies to keep em busy ;-)". Now when I think of the idea, I hear that kid off the Simpsons going " HAH-hah!" and realize it is hopeless.

[Good news is, I wrote a petiton and they GMs said they would be willing to babysit for a few hours so we could play. So, anyone else with the same issue should feel free to petition for babysitting before they get all booked up.

sigh... Sorry again you guys had to come in on a holiday. I know through most of the frustrations and angry posts, everyone is thankful and glad it is them being called in. It was back up. I got in on one character, ran a nemesis mission, logged off to switch to another character, and I can't get back in. Looks like it was a short resurrection.

hmm, what could I be doing wrong. I put my PW in and says unable to authenticate on bottom. I will try restart again.
