So far we have had seven successful costume contests. Here are links to the winners in our previous threads:

Contest #1 - Steampunk (http://forums.champions-online.com/showpost.php?p=1204066&postcount=56)
Contest #2 - Golden age Heroes (http://forums.champions-online.com/showpost.php?p=1239840&postcount=128)
Contest #3 – Humans dressed as animals (http://forums.champions-online.com/showpost.php?p=1281728&postcount=104)
Contest #4 – Halloween/Bloodmoon (http://forums.champions-online.com/showpost.php?p=1316730&postcount=119)
Contest #5 – Mythology (http://forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php?t=86813&page=15)
Contest #6 – Humor (http://forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php?t=90216)
Contest #7 – Mad Science (http://forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php?t=92560)

The theme for our eighth contest is ....

The Holiday Season
Show me your holiday cheer! Use the latest and greatest costume unlocks and show off your new winter event action figures. Do what ever you think shows holiday cheer on your toon. Ideas include making a Santa Claws guy or Robo-Deer. Maybe you want to give some attention to Hanukah, Kwanza or Ramadan. Go for it! Just let me know the background detail.

PROTIP: Take ingame screen shots since the Rate My Champion (RMC) pics never show how good the toons really look. Also, you can share the costume screenshot file too.

Rules:
1. Make a toon that follows the theme or post one that you already have.
2. Submit screenshots or saved costume files in this thread before the end of the contest. Please no RMC pics. They distort toons and are hard to judge.
3. No prize yet but if I get one, my decision is final.
4. Have fun!

Prize:
The winner will pick a future costume contest theme..

This contest will close on Friday, December 25th. I will post the winners that night.

Also, costume contest #9 theme will be a “Powerset based” theme and was selected by Euthanize for winning the Mythology contest.

Any donations received will be given as prizes. Please let me know if you have something to donate.

Good Luck!

For this contest I thought I would only award the top 3 toons since we had a lot of similar ideas. They are:

#3. Toy by Mariel_Martog
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v119/gothicshark/Co/screenshot_2009-12-13-14-06-18.jpg
This toon was a fan favorite in my household. It is a very good representation of a tin soldier. You’ve got the perfect hat and using the military tights design works perfect. I think the face is what made it really shine to me. By using the metal (shiny), rosy cheeks, mustache/beard combo with the big “deer caught in headlight eyes” really drives home the look. Great job Mariel!

#2. Robo Santa by megaerik00
http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/3474/robosanta2.jpg
I am kicking my self for not thinking of this first. I love robot versions of characters. In fact, for one of my Nemesiseseseses (sp?), I made a robot version of Takofanes. Santa is an icon. For this type of costume to work you really need to get the look right. I can not see how you could make this toon look any more like Santa. I like how the shoulder pads are used to simulate white felt on a coat and the bracers to make the robot hands look like gloves. Nice job!

And the winner is:

#1. The Grinch by Voron97
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v471/Herbar/screenshot_2009-12-13-13-34-06.jpg
I think this toon deserves to win because it’s a great representation of the Grinch and it was a very original idea. I would not have thought of him at first. Also, I like how his simplicity made him look that much better. He is not cluttered up with tons of accessories. Personally, I might have gone without the pants or used torn pants, but I like how this one turned out. Great job Voron!

I will create a separate thread in the new costume section for the next contest. Good luck!

Thanks for the nice words but all the real effort comes from the people who submit something. Also, I try and treat everyone the way I'd want my sons to see me treat them. Afterall when he's awake the oldest son is usually watching me play or playing my toon himself.

Golden rule and all that...

Well for entry Number 2, I wanted a little set up.

As everyone has figured I have altism, and for the holiday season several years ago in a Hero MMO I came up with a character I rolled him on one of the servers I didn't play on, smiled and moved on, well I remade him...

So I present Santa Claus and Mrs Claus/Mary Christmas/Xmas with gifts.

A Toy Soldier and a Barbie Doll.

A stuffed Damation Dog and a stuffed Tiger if its for babys.
or
A Damation Puppy and a Tabby Kitten if its for kids.

I could of added a plastic green army man but I thought that one toy soldier was enough.

For elves with an affinity for gadgets, you can use the Steampunk style backpack colored red and green and it looks pretty nifty as a snowblower / confetti thrower / toy dispersal system.

I saw someone with a Robo Sants, and I give my props to him, as he had an awesome looking guy that I soooooo wanted to get into a fight with with my drunken elf.

Guess it could ould be mine then, but i don't remember your elf, but I did dual a Santa Destroyer who whipped me as he was lvl 40 to my lvl 15. However, I got the last laugh as he is off my Xmas list now :p

He has the steampunk backpack for exactly the reason you stated, to launch attack toys and it also houses the boiler which powers him. Now you know why Santa has so much coal to give out :D

Anyhow here he is:

http://i379.photobucket.com/albums/oo236/Cervando/screenshot_2009-12-16-01-44-17.jpg
http://i379.photobucket.com/albums/oo236/Cervando/screenshot_2009-12-16-17-26-12.jpg

Hope he wins, but in any case had great fun playing him and got a lot of positive feedback. Look out for him fighting the evil toys and Black harlequin, as he was made by the elves at the real Santa's behest to save Xmas, as he is to busy at this time of year :p

Btw, I hadn't seen the other excellent Robo Santa until it was posted here, but I made mine in the PTS to try out first and copied him over to the main server a few days ago. So far he is only lvl 15, but i intend to keep him :)

http://i379.photobucket.com/albums/oo236/Cervando/screenshot_2009-12-14-16-45-31.jpg

Yes, he is wearing fishnets and a corset, he has to borrow Mrs Santa's clothes to keep his gut in and the as for the tights, well he is short-sighted and getting on a bit :p

Robot Santa is awesome. I just wanted to say that before posting my entry. XD

Here is Santa's Helper (http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2009/352/2/c/Santa__s_Helper_Costume_by_Dyre.jpg).

For fun, random Backstory!:
-
Santa's Helper was a respected inventor and all around helper elf by the name of Mistle in the employ of Santa. One year, while working on one of the more high-tech toys for the older children, she was overcome with inspiration and set to work on what she believed would be the most popular toy of the century -and a much-needed upgrade to the design she was given-.

What was meant to be a simple snowball gun became a back-mounted, laser guided snow cannon. Santa was not pleased, he said It was far too dangerous for the children and must be destroyed. Mistle did not agree, it hadn't been tested yet! How could he know how dangerous it was? So she sneaked it outside to test it.

The result is what you see now. The "toy", when fired, fused itself to the elf's skin and filled her veins with it's icy waters. She lived through the ordeal but was far too embarrassed to return to the Workshop. Instead she ran away with a plan to regain the respect she felt she had lost. Maybe her new abilities could be used to help some other way?

After learning of the supergroup The Champions, she found her way. Taking the name of Santa's Helper she found Millennium City and signed on as one of the many superheroes tasked with protecting it's people. Santa would surely be proud of her now.
-

I've never actually written back-story for the heroes I make but this just came out of nowhere and since it happened while writing this entry I'm leaving it in this post. =)

Such is his awe-inspiring speed that in a single day he can travel the globe, visiting every house in every city in every country. No fence, no lock, no security alarms, cameras, thermal sensors, vicious attack dogs or hired guards can stop him as he slips silently into each home and steals any milk or cookies foolishly left about. He leaves a suspicious package behind, filled with choking hazards, before making his escape; never seen, never heard, never caught.

Such is his mastery of stealth, so swift and silent his passing, that he has led much of the world to doubt his very existence! To those few who still believe, he has for years cultivated an image of a benevolent, harmless figure; fooled them to thinking he were but a jolly, magical, fat old man. But these feats cannot be done by such a man. It should be obvious that this can only be the work of a master ninja.

Some great examples here!. My fav has to be between the first Robo Santa and the cute Santa's Little Helper!

For my hero, Light, I have gone for a 'less is more' approach. He wears no clothing or accessories and his cape is a limb purely made of of the skin like texture the rest of his body is made from.

I decided to not stray to far away from my original concept of 'less is more' and just added a few xmas accessories to spice things up!

Heres my Hero called Light is his original form:

(((I know this isn't exactly in the spirit of the winter holidays. But it was inspired by them as the poem is his creation story.)))

After making a deal for immortality Hearth was forced to watch his family die and then bound into the fireplace on his own home as it burned to the ground. But not even eternal bindings can stop the wrath of nature itself. After years vines started to crack and break the fireplace apart. Soon Hearth was able to break free and move once more. But demon bindings are not so easily broken, the mortar and brick now formed his body, as did the fireplace, and even the vines that gave him his freedom now wind through his arm.

Being bound for so many years has left Hearth with little memory of his past life, he remembers only the heart his daughter had drawn upon the chimney many years ago that is now cracked and broken upon his chest. And this poem (http://forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php?t=94514) runs through his head as he attempts sleep each night.

Now he seeks retribution or redemption through the acts of good deeds he failed to do in his previous life, and the hope that they'll lead him to the one that did this to him.

I missed the last two contests I'm afraid, and I was really looking forward to the mad scientist one. Excellent winner btw. I've been seduced by the wiles of Dragon Age: Origins, and have been letting Champions slide a bit. I'm still playing DA:O but I figured I should get in on this winter event and enter this contest. So, seeing as nobody has done this one yet, I give you The Nutcracker.

"Go to bed, or Santa won't come tonight."

What child ever really believed this? Santa's better than that. He wouldn't leave someone out in the cold, so to speak, simply because they happened to be awake. Which is why children will always creep out of bed when their parents are asleep, quietly putting on their slippers and grabbing their coats, intent on catching the Man in Red on his annual world-wide journey.

I enjoy the quests sure enough; but all these costume things like from pvp and holiday events are not to my liking and would prefer something else; i like my costume as designed; you hardly see superman flying around with a santa hat on or any other super for that matter. Like the gingerbread cookies; but all this costume stuff is just not my cup of tea.:p

A portion of us that take part in this contest create a new character just for it. Then if we decide we like them we continue to play them, if not we delete them for the next contest. It costs quite a bit of in game currency to create and change costumes regularly, it costs nothing to create an alt in whatever costume you want to enter into the contest. At least that's how I do for these things.

We're not creating superman in a santa hat, they're not xmas versions of heroes. Well ok some of us are, but the rest are creating heroic versions of each themes characters.

I have only recently started entering contests, but in all cases so far I have entered existing toons. My avatar shows the one I created for this event, which I intend to keep as ongoing one. The idea is to pull him out for every seasonal event. In essence, he has been designed by the Toymaker to save Xmas, Easter etc.

If you are asking what you can donate to be a prize for this contest (or future ones), then anything would work. Action Figures, anything with a costume unlocks, blue and purple items ....

Send them to me in game at @Adogg and I'll make sure the next winner recieves them.

Out of all of these pic's its a shame that no one can create a decent Santa or Mrs Clause with what we have to work with so right now I'm having to go with Frosty the Snowman, Jack Frost and the Angel as being the top three out of all of them. But please everyone keep trying like I am because one of us just might create something really great.

Define decent, the only piece I really lack for a Santa is a fir coat.

The parka kind of works for that, but a coat (like the windbreaker) would make his belly bulge a bit more pronounced.

Neither the parka nor the windbreaker are correct for Santa's coat. Santa's coat should fasten down the middle, be belted with a thick black belt and have white fur (fir is a tree) edging -and- stretch to lower than the belt.

There are no coats that fit this description in the CO tailor. As you say, most everything else you can do, but the coat is the most iconic part of Santa's outfit. Without it, he simply doesn't look right. That's why I eventually gave up and did the 'alternative' Santa.

I'm pretty anally retentive when it comes to my costumes and I like things to be exactly right. I decided that I'd rather do an alternative Santa well than a 'normal' Santa inaccurately.

Don't be silly, this is the 21st century, Santa wouldn't have fur, it's too un-PC. :p

Typos aside, I would argue that his hat is the most iconic peace of apparel he has, seeing as it is the most consistent one. But even the hat has several different variations.

Thank you, sounds like you asked your family on this contest, so it actually means something :)

Nice job!

Thanks for the kind words and the 2nd place spot:D
