It is 13:27 here, and I get the same message.
Please, if the server is down, do not say it is up...

I know many people are having issues with in game content so I certainly won't claim this as "critical"; however, fixing the server status indicator would be very helpful.
I am trying to understand why there is a server status indicator, if it actually doesn't indicate anything.

Everyone would agree with this post. While its not working why not remove it? Or add a simple sentence to it letting customers know its out or order or something to that effect.

5:30 PST or 13:30 GMT and still no login possible...
why cant they write something like " login servers are down due to maintenance" - the actual message insists that something with the users acc is wrong. its not funny as a customer that u got to check your acc first if pw isnt hacked, billing is expired or some kind of GM bannde u from game

I wish everybody could just give their times in UTC. *Especially* when hosting a world-wide service.
It would make the world such a better place :-/

We have completed maintenance at this time.
Please be advised it is a currently known issue that the Celestial power set is still locked for players who did not complete the Bloodmoon event. We appreciate your patience while we work on a solution.

Or at least say for which time zone! It's kind of silly to not say it since it's an onlinegame, meaning people are from all over the world.

My point was mainly that the indicator should indicate.
And I am normally not at home during maintenance, so I have not memorized the CET times ;)
Also, I have been playing **** from launch until the time when it was apparent it was nothing but grinding, griefing, bots and gold sellers.
It feels good to be back here.

\\EDIT: @fuzzy its a known bug that it always says server is up was last times too but gamebugs have higher priority then the bugs on website/launcher.

The server status indicator works, it's just not very useful. It indicates whether certain elements of the core system are functioning, but it does not mean:
- logins by normal users are currently enabled. The login server may be offline, or it may simply be set to restrict access to Cryptic staff while they perform maintenance.
- all other elements of the system are currently working. There are a lot of independent servers providing different aspects of the game, and it is possible to play the game while some of them are broken.
Bottom line is, you cannot accurately describe the status as "up" or "down", it's more complex than that. And they're too busy to create a more sophisticated display of the system status, even if they want to.

Technicallly this is correct. All a user cares about is "can I play now or not?", which is a simply binary question.
In any case the game is up again now, so it's a moot point. Until next time. ;)

It really isn't. Often the answer is "sometimes" or "only if you are already logged in" or similar complexity.

Tosh.
If I am at the log-in screen I can either get into the game or I can't.
"Already logged in" isn't going to be relevant at the log-in screen either, for obvious reasons.

Actually, this game just doesn't suffer from that particular problem. In COH you could get failed login because you were already logged in.. Having disconnected and exited the game incorrectly. Server thought you were still online while you weren't.

The developers are not going to make a custom 'server status' indicator just for you personally. There would be no point, since you can just try to login. When you're talking about *all* players, it is not always the case that either everybody can login or nobody can. When only some players can login, a server status indicator that just shows "up" or "down" is wrong for some of them.

I think you're missing my point. Let's try another tack: what do you think the "server status" on the launcher is for?

It tells you whether or not one particular core server is working, out of the dozens that provide various functions.

And what do you think is the reason Cryptic provide that information in the launcher?
