Maybe you would have been happier if you'd waited a year before buying your copy, rather than suffering through the birthing pains of a new MMO. At least I expected something like this. Personally, I'm expecting this game to eventually blow away the likes of WoW.

It never works in, like, any MMO. I don't know why no one's figured it out, I remember how horridly inaccurate WoW's usually was.

Your personal schedule has nothing to do with the subscription they've offered you. They offered you a subscription of $15/m that allows you access to the game and your characters at -ANY GOD DAMN GIVEN POINT- (when it isn't down, anyway, like it is now.) If you think that's a problem, then why don't you suggest to companies to try the Asian MMO payment plan? If you don't know what that is - it's paying by the hour, which is extremely popular since most Asians get their game on in netcafes.

wow people are so oimpatieant OMG 7 hours OMG they finally respond. its the weekend they are off, maybe you could go to something else for a while, if your freaking out your oviously playing way to much and take this game to seriously. what i did was hang out and what for the thing to get fixed no biggie. Personally, if I'd just launched an MMO, I'd have at least one guy camping out by the servers with a sleeping bag and a carryout stipend, at least for the first couple of months. Of course, I'm the kind of guy that if he did launch an MMO would want the maximum number of early adopters to become subscribers.

No, actually, it's not JUST a game. It's a product bought and paid for but not received. As long as we're paying to receive it, we have every right to complain when we can't.

Keeping us appraised of the situation in a timely manner is just good business. For that matter, complaining when we don't receive what we pay for is also good business. If we all just sat patiently for hours on end (8+ so far as of this posting) doing and asking nothing, the company wouldn't have any real incentive to actually DO THEIR JOB.

BTW, an hour since posting that there was a fix to be implemented.... any idea WHEN?

Who cares? No one writes in 3rd gen languages anymore even if the code where 3rd gen. Everyone uses IDE's that have code blocks pre-written. Also when I made the comment I meant C as in the A, B, C, D or F scale. To make it more obvious, just basic average, can barely get by programmers.

Face it people this is a GAME. You don't bother to hire the best developers in the world for a game. You can do just fine with some C students and make a ton of money while at it. No one dies if the servers go down for 7 hours or 70 hours. And your typical MMO addict will just spary pee around on the forums for a while and then come running right back... So why bother?

These guys are professional gamers, they know their customers and they do just as much as they have to for maximum profit. Don't liken this to what happens at a fortune 500 company or where national security is at stake. It is what it is, it always will be just get used to it.

I will pit a game programmer against a financial programmer any day my friend. I know a few of both and the game programmers are some of the smartest guys I know when it comes to tech stuff. The biggest reason games tend to be unstable these days is because of the short time allotted to develop something that is immensely complex. So can it if you don't know what you are talking about.

not really trying to complain, but I don't get many chances to play this game.
Kinda sad about 50 percent of the time a game that has already cost me 80 dollars or more is worse for reliability than my nintendo entertainment system. At least that one I could blow in its rear and tickle it with a feather and kick the box around a bit and she would work just fine; but these days? I dunno.

Thats one gamers opinion who grew up with a Nintendo controller in his hand. This post probably relates quite well to many of those gamers who are having issues with this constant emergency server maintenance.
I thought that the 1gb patches were enough but this is just... too much.

This game is not written in C.

C Students could not create this game, but feel free to imagine a C Student creating a 3D world like this the first time they sit down in front of Maya.

The server has not been down for 7 hours.

The only real issue here is that they should have informed us sooner, something that Drake is normally good at.

All games have issues, and for a new game, it isn't unexpected and the track record for CO has been pretty good so far.

This game shoves a lot of data around and alot of bandwidth - which makes it impressive technically, but also makes it have a massive potential of features as the game grows. Think of concepts and features that are just dabbled on in the game so far expanded further as the game gets going.

Already it is better than the CoX launch, and that game has become quite remarkable for quality, stability, and stretching what the engine is capable of handling.

I foresee the CO devs bringing the same progression to CO, so enjoy the game for it 'has' now, and be vocal and expect it to get even better as it matures.

Like I said, the engine and mechanics of the game support a lot of concepts beyond most single player games let alone MMOs.

So some server issues/downtime isn't going to shove me away at this point.

Better then COX lunch?!?! What planet are you living on? CIty of Heroes was before City of Villians and COH had far less issues then CO. I know because I was a beta tester for them back at that time and we had near instance response when things went wrong. However, COV from what I understand was not so good during beta and the release was somewhat ok, but not great.

Been a good long while since I finally logged off cause it was really bad playing. I do see an update from Daeke indicating, well, that there's a problem and they are working on it. I don't even remember how long ago I left, but if that's the first official notification then that's a problem. At least fifteen to twenty minutes into an actual problem someone should have made the call to send out a notification. Yeah, SOME people would be ****ed, but people in-game already knew by then and you would be doing WONDERS for PR and the community by letting them know 1) you are aware of the issue, 2) and are working on it.....before the crap-storm of weeping and knashing of teeth that you know will hit if you just let it go.

Please, please, please give the notification QUICKLY, and in the name of all that's holy on the face of the earth UPDATE....THAT...DAMN...SERVER...STATUS...!!!!! In fact, fix that FIRST, THEN the other thing. That way, we have something we can look at and see 'damn, server's down', and won't try to get in and take up even more resources. I'm just sayin, is all.

I want to love this game, I really do. It's the only MMO I've ever really gotten into. But I agree with others who have posted here; I thought there was a problem with my internet or software when the loader came up perfectly normally and the webpage gave (and continues to give) the assurance that the server status is "up" and the only info on the main page is a chipper entry on devchat. This seems intentionally disingenuous. Next time, if the game's not working, at least specify it on the main page! :mad::mad:

The Game hasnt been officially launched less than 2 months and I believe they have gotten a lot better response to the game than they where expecting. The game rocks. Sorry, the game being down for most of Saturday is unacceptable, the stability of the game doesn't seem to be getting any better, which is sad.

What really bums me is that I do enjoy the game when I'm actually able to play normally, I can't even take a break from subscribing because I payed for a 6 month, and I want some of my IRL friends to play, but I can't bring myself to recommend this game to them until the problems are at least smoothed over a bit...

Cannot be arsed to read all the rants, but the server hasn't been down long. I was playing from 9pm GMT until 4am GMT and all I experienced was a lag in chat which we were told was going down by an in-game announcement and the occasional delay in quests hand ins and picking up items. So I expect the problem was mainly the log in server, not the game server.

Off to bed, as I really need some sleep :) Thank god the clocks go back.:p

Please, please, please give the notification QUICKLY, and in the name of all that's holy on the face of the earth UPDATE....THAT...DAMN...SERVER...STATUS...!!!!! In fact, fix that FIRST, THEN the other thing. That way, we have something we can look at and see 'damn, server's down', and won't try to get in and take up even more resources. I'm just sayin, is all.

If any of the policy makers actually read through this, add +1 to the above. 'Stuff' happens... even on Saturday... I can handle that... I can find other things to do... what was NOT cool was me checking the server status on the website, being told it is up... seeing absolutely nothing indicating there was a problem on your end and so spending several hours trying to troubleshoot from MY end.

I really do not think my monthly dues are high enough to rate having my tuchus kissed and feet washed, but it would be nice to get a notice on the main page saying "yeap... we fed the gremlins... our bad... bbs".

As for the poor suckers.... I mean... admins/Devs... who are stuck handling this on Saturday... my thanks... I appreciate you figuring out the problem and getting it fixed...

The lack of a response makes me think that there is no ETA and I am honestly dissappointed.

I preordered and paid for 6 months and would like, at the very least, to be told "there isn't an ETA yet but we will notify you as soon as we have information"...Hearing garbage like that is better than nothing at all.

Brown College in MN, here. Got my BS in GD&D last March.

Been playing for 2 days...Been wanting to play ever since I read the article in GameInformer like a year ago that it was on its way. So far I'm enjoying the game a lot. Already have 5 toons and am already thinking about my 6th. So far I tend to get to around lvl 6-7 and then try another power set. Really liking my dual swords right now.

Nice work, Cryptic. If you keep at it, this game could become very epic once the bugs are worked out. I look forward to the journey!

Its the first day of my vacation, and I've been looking forward to some dedicated CO time, so when I wake up this morning I'm heading for the loft with the 'puter in it. My wife ambushes me with a list of chores (vacation my foot!). I'm thinkin, ok, I'll get these suckers out of the way, then its time to get Nega (my main) to level friggin 40!

Dude I've got news for ya. This is not a console game. That's why they same "Game play changes during the life of the game". They tried to fix something or add something new or change the balance on something that didn't work like they expected oh BEFORE it had 1,000's of people playing it. They made a change and that flipped something else and now they need to do it a different way.

Most of us put up with this because we don't want to have to go out and buy a different game next month and that means that sometimes things will have to be fixed on the fly. Especially since no matter when the game is down it will be down during someone's prime time.

( To the guys commenting on financial programers... Yeah I acutally agree those guys got into programming later after they realized they couldn't handle the math in accouting... You know the bit where all they have to do is add and subtract and THAT gets to be too much? But compare that to the guys who say program missiles? Trust me there's just a little more pressure when you're deciding in what area 2,000 lbs of high explosive are coming down.)

Two frickin' hours? This is bull. It's not like this is there 1st and only online game. They should have had these bugs worked out prior to release. What the hell are they working on anyway? If my job calls me in for an emergency on Saturday evening I may not be at home, or I may be with mty wife/kids/friends and engaged in something else.

CO doesnt owe us any explanation to why they bring servers down and waits hours b4 they explain why the servers arent working. But they should. Timely notifications even if they are to say "we still dont know whats wrong" would ease ALOT of tension. Instead they treat us like addicts, relying on when the product is back up we will gleefully bang it into our veins..forgetting why we were upset in the first place. i really cant see the problem w/ just keeping us abreast of the situation..jeez we are paying their lively hoods every month. If you read these posts most are born out of frustration of not knowing. they got a good game but this kind of treatment is unacceptable.

Thanks for the update Daeke. It's been unplayable/down all my Sunday - which i can live with, stuff happens after all. Hopefully some lessons get taken away from todays issues and can be used to improve things moving forward.

Also, can you be a bit more brutal with moderation in posts like this. Would help keep the focus on the issue and it's resolution rather than getting to watch "witty" people try and prove their superiority over people expressing their views on said issue..

I likely speak for more than a few in saying that most of us could care less about $0.15 of time, or any sort of trinket they hand out to appease folks. That's not what we're looking for, just a stable, enjoyable and professionally delivered experience that we were sold on and paid for. That lacking, our purchase decisions in the future (or even present) will be thusly informed.

Then your schedule sucks and isn't the fault of the devs or maintenance crew. Crap happens; get over it and yourself. Maybe you should consider the value of your subscription for yourself rather than in general. $15 for maybe four hours a week? That's not their fault. Welcome to the real world when problems arise and sometimes take time to fix. They should've said something earlier, fine. I agree, but again, crap happens. You can't plan for it.

It wasn't supposed to be "all good to go"... not sure where you got that from. They took the servers down, ETA was two hours about an hour ago, then Daeke just posted telling us it isn't going to take two hours and it should be up shortly.

I'm curious, is that last one somehow an invalid argument? Why would I want to pay for a service that's only up when I'm in bed/at work?

Don't want to give away what I do.. But my work is computer related and we are on call 24/7 365. IF it took me this long to respond and assist. Forget the boss, my co workers would verbally beat me senseless.

For anyone who works for a living, you can understand some people are just not made to do what they are doing. You know, that person that you say, how in the world did they get into this business or get hired by my office.

Well I relate that to this company. Probably some good programmers and designers.. But poor businessmen and poor customer relations.

I'm gonna give away what you do. A big hint is that it's something that requires a quicker response time because it's not a GAME. Yes we all paid for it and in this case, time is literally money (albeit a very small amount). I sympathize, I had a limited play window as well. But if past history tells us anything, Cryptic does compensate. WE got a full play day last time. I'm thinking benefit of the doubt before we catch our Action Figures on fire in protest =)

Well, as a new dad my time online is short and rare, and I've really been trying to give this game a good "go of it". I love the character creation aspect more than the actual gameplay itself heh. Being in customer service for 12yrs though, I do have to say I'm really disappointed in how today unfolded. Although, it seems that customer service and appreciation of paying customers isn't what it used to be in many aspects of society today.

I doubt I'll renew my subscription come January, although I'm pleasantly surprised to see CO taking the advice of it's customers after today's fiasco and implementing some good customer service orientated ideas on how to better deal with crappy situations. You can't please everyone all the time, but downtime on weekends with online gaming has got to be the biggest kill off to any game.

I can't believe the servers are still down, I gave up earlier and thought after watching a few movies it would be back up. What did they buy their servers on sale or something? :)

there was a recent post from Deake saying the servers should be back up soon they believe they have it fixed and are testing a few things out b4 putting it back online...

as of 11.20p CST the servers are still down. Really? During prime nerd gaming time? I understand things come up, but a) being vague about it doesn't help ( "server issues?" indeed. Someone trip over the power cord? Spill their Mtn Dew into it? What?) and b) the more downtime you have, the less likely people are to continue to pay for it.

I'm just sayin'.

SERVER IS UP !! I tell you that because the Server Status widget has not said it's been down...

I would be happier if the server staus widget on the top of the Main Web site didn't lie (We can't play=down. wheter crash, locked or stolen)... Once it doesn't lie, put it on the top of the forum page as well to save us tabbing back and forward to check the server status...

Things do go wrong, but the one thing I would say about it being a weekend and "the developers having lives too" is that I would assume the vast majority of the people playing this game do so outside of the work week (such as myself). Defending a form of entertainment like this because it's only inaccessible on a Saturday would be like saying the same for a nightclub or bar. If there is ANY day they should have adequate staff, its a high traffic day such as a weekend. Just a thought!

Dear God man Murphy himself was camped at your house today. The bogon ( the elementary particle of bogusness, i.e. the Murphy effect) flux must have been so high that your nuts will be shriveled up for days. Don't suppose the wife would throw you some out of pity? I sure hope so as one poor married ******* to another... Mine plays EQ2 and her game is working fine so A) I get nothing in the way of sympathy sex and B) I get attitude about hers being the better game.

Its the first day of my vacation, and I've been looking forward to some dedicated CO time, so when I wake up this morning I'm heading for the loft with the 'puter in it. My wife ambushes me with a list of chores (vacation my foot!). I'm thinkin, ok, I'll get these suckers out of the way, then its time to get Nega (my main) to level friggin 40!

(Several hours later)

Just finished the chores for the day! Its about 2pm, I'm ready to PLAY!

My wife then informs me that my son has been doing REALLY good in school lately and has earned his games back, starting today. My heart leaps into my throat as I KNOW exactly what comes next: "You know...he's been acting really good lately and, well, I was hoping you could let him use the computer for a while today, you know? After all, you'll have it at about 8:00 tonight, ok?"

Emotional friggin blackmail, that's what that is if you ask me.

Needless to say, I raged inwardly for the next several hours. I'm already lvl 39 I tell myself, shouldn't be a problem...

So I get the computer back and try to log in...connection time out. Huh?

Check Server Status, nope it says its up.
