View Full Version : Flying on a cloud?

I've seen a couple other players have a travel power in which they are flying on a cloud. I don't see that in the travel powers list. I know we get another TP at 35, but these guys were lower levels than that. So...how does one get that power? Is it a modification of another power?

It's a graphics bug on that rock flight thing. I've had it happen to me.

I don't think its a bug since the cloud actually has flashes of light and thunder inside it.

Not sure it's a bug as such... But I do know I get it(maybe 6/10 times) when activating Earth Flight on the ground.

well, it certainly isn't intentional. I haven't had the lightning and thunder thing.

If you charge Earth flight and jump it works every-time. Not sure if it a bug as the graphic is completely different from the standard one. Probably a trial left in by mistake. Have fun all you Monkey clones :p

It's not a bug. There was a dev post in either CB or OB (can't remember which) that confirmed that it was an "Easter Egg". Pretty cool, actually.
*Edit* Oh and you do it by activating it mid jump or by toggling it off then on mid-air.

The title of this thread made me think.....
"Would you like to swing on a star.....
carry moonbeams home in a jar....
and be better off than you are...."

It is intentional. I remember people requesting it months before release and a dev saying that it would be possible to fly on a cloud using Earth Flight, although he didn't want to reveal how. Instead he just teased us by saying something along the lines of "that's for you to discover on your own".

Or would you rather be a fish?
A fish is an animal that swims in a brook, can't write it's name or read a book.

No its from the TV series Journey to the West based on the story of the same name. The character Monkey rides a cloud.

All monkeys ride clouds, silly. How do you think they reach bananas?

It is absolutely intentional. If you use it in the air, you get a cloud that had thunder and lightning.

I can create it now all the time. Works like a charm. If this is a bug (which I doubt) then it's one I hope they never fix.
Thanks again, guys, for the tip on how to use it. It fits my character far better than fire-flight did.

Actually it is intentional.
In beta, when someone first posted about it, one of the dav's came out and flat said he didn't expect anyone to discover it so soon.

You're playing on an 8-bit system, then. Turn up your effects.

Canada is a great spot to try it out for the first tme. Since you can get snow, ice, ground, pavement and clouds nearly on demand. Its harder to notice that the power adjusts to what you're standing on desert-side.

Yep, and Dragonball is a re-imagining of that very story as well.
From wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_Ball)
Wanting to break from the Western influences common in his other series, when Akira Toriyama began work on Dragon Ball he decided to loosely model it on the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. He also redeveloped one of his earlier one shot manga series, Dragon Boy, which was initially serialized in Fresh Jump and released in a single tankōbon volume in 1983. This short work combined the comedic style of Toriyama's successful six-year series Dr. Slump with a more action-oriented plot and paid homage to famous martial art actor Jackie Chan. Toriyama notes that his goal for the series was to tell an "unconventional and contradictory" story.
Whether this has any bearing on the thread at hand, I have no idea, but thought it might be fun to bring it out since it had been mentioned ^_^
