Can someone please explain this to me. As a casual player who isn't familiar with all the hard/soft caps in the game. What does this mean for me?

Hard caps on characteristics have been removed. The benefits granted by a statistic at the “target” point for each level are unchanged. (It is relatively easy to push stats above this target point, but it always requires that they be Characteristic Focuses combined with above average gear). The benefit for stats below the target point at each level are increased. For some calculations, this benefit is substantial. Benefits for stats above the target point at each level are decreased, and suffer diminishing returns (but, since there are no longer any hard caps, it's possible to get more total benefit).

what the heck is a target point?

The Hard Caps meant that you would not get any benefit from stacking a Super Stat past a certain point (32% previously). The Soft Cap means that you can now continue to gain benefit indefinitely, but the higher you go past the targeted value, the less you'll see back (Diminishing Returns).

The "target point" is where the Diminishing Returns kick in, basically.

(example numbers for ease of use)

Before +100 of your super stat would net you a 32% bonus to damage. +150 of your superstat would also only boost you 32% (hard cap).

Now.....

+100 will get you like 30% bonus, and +150 will let you break past the previous (hard cap) of 32%. You would be at around 35% bonus damage. At around +200 It would be even less of a bump (but still a bump) to say 36% bump. +300 would get you even less return on investment so around 37%.

Thank you for the random example numbers.

Now are we supposed to know the real ones, and the math behind it, or are we to assume?
Any clue where I can find the info?
it'd be appreciated.

Ohhhh I gotcha. I guess thats why I noticed at some points in my leveling my dmg bonus was 32%, and then other times I noticed it went down to 28%. Because I wasn't hitting the target point.

Is there a list of target points for each level? Or does it vary? For example at lvl 18, I need "X" amount of points in a superstat to hit 32%

Before the patch 100 of your superstat would be very close to the max bonus. I would guess my numbers are fairly close to what to expect. I havent played in the game enough to pull more data, but it should be easy to figure it out.

No, it is a set amount. Before I had to be close to 100 in my superstat to get my 32% bonus. Should be close to that after the patch, give or take a few percentage points.

Uhm. I'm over 100 with both my SS on main (Con 110, Rec 119) but I'm sure I haven't seen a 30% on either. Last time I checked it was 26% from CON at.... IIRC, lev 28.
Pre-last patch tho, didn't check today.

Going on memory here...

Open your Character Info screen (right-click on your portrait).

Your stats are in the lower left. Hover over a particulat stat and it will give you details. your super-stats witll tell you +x% to damage. The closer you are to +32%, the closer you are to you target number.

Each time you level, the target number goes up so you'll need to look again.

alright, good enough for me. Maybe we can swindle the devs into giving out those numbers.:D

Perfect! I think this is was what many of us was wondering how to determine where we were in relation to the cap. Thanks.

On my Lv34 main I have 192 STR for a 32% damage bonus. I also have about 102 for REC which is my other superstat and that's only giving an 18% bonus.

Ok, so it DOES scale with level. I obviously never paid that much attention. I must of stayed ahead of the curve my whole career (happy days).

TLDR: It scales with Level.

It is sad when developers almost force you to be a math major rather than just play the game. I haven't seen the patch yet, so maybe it isn't quite as ridiculous as it sounds. It should be a constant rate of return. On damage for example the only thing that should lessen it would be the target having better resistance. The more convoluted you make the system the more you create min/maxers and the more balance problems you create for everyone else.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

My neighbor has this fancy garage door opener that opens his garage door 2 seconds faster than mine. He gets in and closes it just as I finish pulling into my garage. He makes it to his bathroom 3 or 4 seconds before I do. He spent a lot more than I did, I enjoy my visit to the bathroom more.
