View Full Version : Spread the Word: You can sidekick in this game!

I was in a group with some people the other night. Full group, running the Tower, pretty good group but a few were slightly under-level. So, I suggested to the group, "Hey, why don't we try having you guys sidekick up to (highest level member, don't remember who it was)? This might be easier that way."

ALL FOUR of my teammates had no idea what I was talking about. We had to stop the raid so that I could explain how sidekicking in Champions Online worked, and how to do it.

Out of curiosity I started wandering around zones and just sort of randomly talking about sidekicking in Zone chat. The number of people who would get on Zone and say they had no idea you could sidekick in the game was a little alarming.

Devs, the sidekick feature is one of the defining jewels of Champions, it's what opens up the game, allows everyone to play with everyone, and it would seem a whole heck of a lot of people don't even know about it.

Seriously, devs and my fellow players, play this up. Get the word out.

People don't know because people don't team.

Until they offer the greedy swine some rewards for teaming, this will sadly be the way it stays.

Sadly, this is the truth.

I was just about to post something similiar, instead I'll just nod in agreement to this one.

I've teamed up with people like 3 times since I started because everything seems soloable (except the larger missions that states that you need 5 people in them). Heck I even solo the ones that stated "recomended team: 3" and I am in no way no cookie-cutter-character, I play a concept sorceress.

But from what I've read there WILL be a release that includes mission-complete bonuses for those that participate even if they don't have the mission.

we managed to drop the mega destroid due to sidekicking. Love the feature.

Funny, I thought you got experience bonus when you team

Simple fix(es) for people not grouping as much:

-No xp split when grouped. All members get full xp for any kills/damage done by any of their groupmates within whatever range they use for sidekicking. Heck, its not like the non-quest xp is worth writing home about anyways, it might be worth something if you could get 4-5 people together to lay waste to large groups of enemies. Woudl also equal more xp in instances.

-Higher level champions should atleast get level apropriate xp for killing mobs with lower level champions. Currently they get zero xp and low level drops. Absolutely no incentive to help lower levels other than the sake of helping them (not that thats bad).

-Increase quest xp gained by 5% per groupmate.

-Possible increase to mob xp.

Eh, we just need some tougher missions at 40/50 that REQUIRE group tactics. Missions at the top end of the chain you can't just outlevel and solo.

Yup, exp bonus on mobs. Sadly it's hardly noticable so people don't care.

For any instanced mission, the number of baddies need to scale with the size of the group. A few is fine if I'm in there by myself, but when I have others there just NEEDS to be more in the area. What's the point of teaming for missions if:

One Hero vs 10 Baddies is the same as 3 Heroes vs 10 baddies. Just too fast and worthless.

The hero:baddie ratio should be 1:1group (3 heroes:30 baddies)

This might have been in the group I was in. I was in the tower and the highest ranked hero. After someone suggested it, everyone except one went up to my level. That was the first time I have seen it happen and known what it is.

So you want missions that no one will do?

It's a good feature, and it works better than the CoX one, because you're not limited to SKing a single player. Everyone in the group can go up or down to whatever level the player is that you select to be the team champion.

Also (just posting this in case you didn't know, sorry if you already knew this)

1. The Team Champion can be designated by the team leader (thus the leader does not have to be the champion)

this is important (and necessary) because it means:

2. You can also set the Team Leader to be anyone you want to be, which is important because AFAIK, he's the only one who can set the Primary Quest for the team (which gives you the little quest tracker that shows up next to the team members' names)

First couple of times I teamed, I saw the sidekick option and asked around for an explanation. Nobody I asked knew what it was.

The issue here isn't so much about people not teaming as it's about a general lack of documentation on game mechanics.

It is sad; I figured out what it was early on (back in the tutorial zone), yet even when given specific directions on how to access it, still other people remain clueless. :(

Can I haz open-pvp for a day?

You're out of date. As of last issue/patch in that game, the entire team is sk'd up in CoX.

And this!

Things like that should be accessible to learn about in the Tutorial.

That wouldn't be rocket science.

I guess I'll offer the counterexample, shall I? About a week ago I joined a team as the high level and instantly saw Team chat about sidekicking to my level. I didn't have to say a word on the subject.

If everyone in this thread mentions sidekicking every time we group, this will probably be more effective than Cryptic adding lines of information to resources that few people read anyway.

I was also unaware that you could sidekick in this game. Can some one please post explaining how to sidekick?

Thanks :)

The team leader selects the team's sync (right click the hero's portrait and select 'select hero for sidekicking' or to that effect) and everyone else right-clicks their own portrait and selects 'start sidekicking'.
