I just felt i had to share a little bit of my experience... I have personally never seen a game that has paid so much attention to detail. I decided to take a few screen shots and share them with the masses.
I was also wondering if anyone else had some great looking screen shots of the Champions world???
This is my main char called Cruel Justice... not quite 40 but he's getting there :) lvl 36 and counting... and these were taken on my travels.

Nice screenies. Not to seem like I'm trying to rain on your parade but there are much more detailed games out there, however CO really does have a good style to it.

I agree, im sure there are some more detailed games, but if you look at this game as comic (like it was ment to be) it pretty dam great.
Just out of interest though... which games would you say look better... please dear god dont say wow :D

The game is nice.... graphics are ok I guess... nothing special however seeing as almost every game that has come out for the PC in the past year has looked better, had a higher poly count, animations are smoother, um....the UI and engine dont chunk up for no good reason....
I think the OP suffers from Raccoon Syndrome..... Flashy bright objects just blow his mind..... i should stick a spoon in a lobster trap and see what he does...
If those screens you took added in about 3 months worth of content i would be OOOOOOing and AAAAAAAing with you... but trust me Canada gets old fast and after 35 you pretty much have no solid reason to go there..... Lemuria is a freaking joke... sure its perdy!! woopy... the LAG and rubberband is still a huge shot in the foot after you get over the CoLoRs!.
The zones are to small as well... at 40 you can shoot from one end to the other in under 1 min.... 1MIN!!!!!
Im guessing you are not 40 yet and are still soaking up what little content you can atm.... when you get to 40 and have been there for a week ... please repost this thread and give your honest opinion... ty that is all:D

Having travel powers that make you move really fast does not equate to the zones being small. o.O

um ... actually yes it does..... its called bad game design .... it destroys the illusion that you are even in the Desert or Canada when you can zoom across the "world map" in under 1 min....
Star Wars Online managed to make you feel like you were on a massive planet..... and that game is years old and gone.... but even when you had a speeder bike.... it still took over 10min to get from one edge to the other...
The world honestly needs to be much larger and have content for all levels in every zone.... after level 25 you are DONE with the desert unless told to go back to enter an instance.....
Lemuria has no content other then leveling content.... after you hit 40 you never really go back to that zone.... simply put.... the use of the zones was poorly thought out... and the size of the simple 5 zones they have is as well a joke.

lol... I don't understand your logic. So being a SUPERHERO in that you can travel great distances in small amounts of time = small zones? No, the zones are big enough, if you want to take the time to explore them then you can turn off your travel power and run through. You will see how big the zones are, not that they are amazingly huge, but as big as most MMOs. I wouldn't feel much like a Superhero if it took me 10 minutes to get to my destination to save someone... because by then you'd think the villain would probably have gotten away with it... I think that's where you have to conceptualize this idea. Remember, it's a Superhero MMO, not a fantasy MMO where you have to wait till your 3/4 of the way through the game to get your mount so you can move 50% faster. Superheroes move at amazing speeds, so they can get to where they need to be to save people and stuff in time. Make sense? Did I pound that into your head enough?

Perhaps, for you.
As to your other points, CO is not a bunch of other games. I like that the zones are small enough that travel time doesn't eat it my play time. It takes me sometimes 30 minutes to go 3.7 miles to get to work. I don't want to come home so I can log on and play a game where I have to spend 15 minutes to travel places.
My favorite travel of all games was the Teleport To Friend feature of Pirates of the Caribbean Online. It requires suspension of disbelief. Like when playing an actual RPG and the GM would say, "You slog for weeks through the marshes until you find..."
Suspension of disbelief. Imagination.

You're not in the entire desert or Canada, you're in the area with trouble spots. Unless you think all of Canada is supposed to look like that. o.O
You could also try walking around without a travel power and see how big the places are.
And SWG's planets were for the most part barren wastelands. Do I want to go to the white planet, the green planet, or the brown planet? Yay!

Oh, another dune... but I bet once I hit the top of this dune i'll run into...!!!
Another sand dune.
Huge usually equals time-consuming, and rather barren and lifeless. If you like riding on a speeder or something for 20 minutes in a whole bunch of nothing just to get to another town that nobody is at because the world is so huge and without a central meeting point you'll run into no one in an MMO, then SWG is still open. I like the size of Champions' areas, and hope for more well done places where pretty much all of the space is used in meaningful ways.
Also, lol at the 10 minutes to save someone. I'd stop flying/running/teleporting after 5. They're probably dead by now anyway.

dont forget the frustration of games where it can literaly take you an hour, to run from city to city *coughffxi* early on in the game
we are super heroes! we should be able to move fast, how else will we respond to those crisis that arise!

Nice screenshots.
But in the genre of MMO's, graphics are far from the most important factor, they are a lot like icing on a cake, it tastes good, but if that's all there is, you're going to get sick eating it. The most successful MMO's over history have not traditionally had the most cutting edge graphics of their time.
So personally, I'm a lot more interested in the "style" of graphics, and the core gameplay.
Even though CO is pretty decent MMO, I'm not a big fan of icing ^_^

Then you ought to LOVE CO's graphics - one of the few instances I've seen where the Graphics FIT the setting and purpose of the MMO. it's a Comic book world, and appropriately, we are comic book characters in it.
I mean - when I beta'd LoTRO, I was simply AGOG at the mountains, the water - so dang realistic..
To go along with all the Hobbits running around. And that immediately was a point against the game for me - if i am playing a Fantasy game, it should LOOK like a fantasy game.
But WOW, those Mountains were so well done. Just a shame the game didn't match them - not in gameplay, but in Theme and setting...

Oh I do love the graphic style of CO immensely. It fits. One of the reasons I disliked CoX so much is I hated the graphic style immensely, amoung other things. Also the graphic engine itself was clunky and slow to load.

Dont get me wrong, the graphics are just a tick in the box for me but the game play is frickign awsome. Ive got this char up to 36 and the content is getting a little bit thin but i still havnt run out. Ive also got 6 more chars up to over lvl 20 and i really like every single one fo them... And the surroundings still havnt got boring.
I agree with the posts above, ive played mmo's when it takes 30minutes to get from one side to the other... and that was boring as hell. Infact my most disliked place is millenium city and thats only because the missions can be spread all around the map at any given time... but it still looks great and still feels like the city of the future so it makes it real easy to put up with it :)
I feel bad for the doom bringers and the people who are so hard to please, perfection is a tough goal to achieve but i think that some people will never be happy... if they were happy, they wouldnt know what to do with them selves lol

Since most LOTR games are based off the movie, you could say realistic settings fit the game.

Right so the Flash running around the plant in under 1 min means your point is what? Pointless? That's the whole point of of super travel powers. I think the zones could be a little bigger and we need more of them but your point is really not hitting home.

If by "massive planet" you mean, big open space with no much going on, that on the scale of things isn't really that massive and awful lot like the last planet you went to but this time it's yellow or a bit purple, then yeah sure.

Totally different genre and gameplay, but Lord of the Rings Online looks fantastic, particularly if you are a fan of the books.
I have been amazed at the graphics in this game. Everywhere I go I love the way things look.

You COULD - but IMO you'd be wrong.
Looking like Earth sans Skyscrapers isn't a setting for a Fantasy based game. As gorgeous as they made Mountains, Rivers and Lakes look - I was thinking "Utah" and not "Rivendell"..

One of the things that I love about CO, mind you this is after playing CoX for 4+ years, is the weather. I love when it snows in Canada, when it rains in Monster Island and the sun comes out and its like someone turns on the lights, when the wind blows in the desert (even though you can't see). I like watching shadows as the sun moves across the sky in Millennium City and the aurora borealis shift in Canada.
And even though most people hate lagmuria, I have to say it's by far my favorite zone. Never in an MMO have I ever been required to do a mission where I had to swim (one of them in Canada) and I thought it was neat. I find Lemuria very visually appealing in the shades of blues and greens, the different swimming strokes when I move.
I get a chuckle to think my character can swim underwater without a breathing apparatus and poor poor Baelrath has to have his head stuck in a fishbowl.
Sometimes, it's the little things in a game that makes you appreciate it.
