So I got 3 codes to give buddies for being a lifetimer. Well, I guess this is where we Lifers get screwed. Every other MMO out there if your friend subs to the game you usually get free game time. But Cryptic offers us NOTHING. Well, I am not passing out my buddy codes until they make it worth me geting my friends to sign up. Ya, I don't need game time. So give me points to use in the Cryptic Shop.
Welp, here is the E-mail minus the codes:
Greetings Champion!
Thank you once again for purchasing a lifetime subscription for Champions Online. We hope you are enjoying the game. To show our appreciation for your support, here are three 14-day free trial buddy keys for you to give to your friends and family, so they can join in your heroic adventures!
"CODES HERE"
What to do with these keys?
4. Send one of the buddy keys from above to a person of your choice. Please note that a buddy key can only be used once.
5. To signup, direct your buddies to: http://www.champions-online.com/enter_key
6. After signing up, your buddy will be presented with a link to download the Champions Online game client. If they missed that, they can still login to the official website and get the game client from: http://www.champions-online.com/download
Upon activation of these keys, your buddies will have access to the game for 14 days! To continue to playing after the 14-day free trail, your buddies just need to:
3. Purchase a retail copy of Champions Online.
4. Log into their existing account and activate the retail key that comes with their retail copy.
To find out where you can buy Champions Online, please go to: http://www.champions-online.com/retail
Once again, thank you for playing Champions Online. We hope to see you and your friends in-game soon!
Regards,
Cryptic Studios Billing Support
Yep that is it. No extra bonus for getting our friends to sign up. Just thanks now see ya.
REALLY CRYPTIC, Show us you are greatful for send our friends money to you!
Sure I am going to get flamed for this. But a thank you for getting your friends to sign-up like all the other MMO's do out there would be a nice jester.

I, for one, appreciate the opportunity to let my friends try the game, because I'd like to play it with them.

That is fine, so do I... but every other MMO gives a bonus of some kind if their friend signs up. I just don't lke the idea of me scratching their back by have my friend give them their money for nothing in return. I would like my back scratch too, maybe a golden toilet too well I am at it.

If you have a LIFETIME sub.....you don't need extra game time. Isn't the idea of getting your friends to play the game (trying it for two weeks FREE) bonus enough?

I think it is taking advantage of someone personally. I don't need extra time, but I am sure they can come up with something.

Like others have said above me, I'm fairly sure the idea is to give your friends a chance to try out the game. Not to earn yourself stuff.
I'm fairly sure playing the game with friends is enough reward.
I'm sorry, but you've been given something for free and your complaining that you arnt being rewarded for using it?
P.S
try to avoid such sweeping statements as "Every other MMO"

I will, but send me a link to another MMO out there that does not give their players a bonus of some sort for getting their friends to sign up, and it has to be a game with a monthly sub not some free to play game. Until then I can say every other MMO to get my point across.
Plus in a few weeks everyone probably will get a free buddy code or they will do a free trial offer. So I guess it doesn't matter anyways.

Except maybe to your "friends," who can now infer how much you value playing MMOs with them.

Welcome to the age where if you don't get anything in return something isn't worth doing........
Attitudes like this are what make me hate going to public places. What happened to helping others with no thought of "what can i get for doing this"?

You skipped over the "getting friends" to play with perk you get for doing so.

The sense of entitlement that trots around these days in people's heads really baffles me. You can't even give someone a trial or a free offer without them asking, "What's in it for me?!?!"
Gah, OP it's posts like yours that erode my faith in humanity :)

The self-entitlement vibe is quite strong in this thread.

I only poop when I'm at work, so that I am technically being paid to poop. I absolutely refuse to do it for free.
The weekends can be...trying.

Yeah because being able to play the game for a fraction of it's true cost for anyone without a lifetime sub must really feel like that.
Every other MMO out there if your friend subs to the game you usually get free game time. But Cryptic offers us NOTHING.
Apart from that reduced discounted price to play the game for a 'lifetime'.

You mean playing the game with your friends isn't enough? What an amazing value you place on your friendships, how do you treat them on a daily basis? ... you can only come round to my house if you pay at the door. I'm rather amazed you have any friends at this point.
REALLY CRYPTIC, Show us you are greatful for send our friends money to you!
At what point during the trial will they be giving Cryptic money, if they like the game then they will, if not they wont, what exactly do they lose? If anything they gain some free playtime.
Sure I am going to get flamed for this. But a thank you for getting your friends to sign-up like all the other MMO's do out there would be a nice jester.
You were right on the first part of that statement, the second part you obviously don't realize that the 'gesture' is the fact that you got the passes for them at all. They are not available to the general public so in fact Cryptic are giving you something for your subscription.
I'm sure the CEO's are in a board-meeting right now over this travesty, how will the game survive without 3 more people like yourself in it?
Yes I may seem a little harsh but 'this' is your complaint? That you can't get more stuff out of a company, because you payed them money to play a game?
Seriously selfish.

Hmm... well everything's been said but I have a question for the OP. How old are you, really ? I am loathe to think that an adult could be so self-centered so I am guessing in your teens ? If that's so then learn something from all that's been said. If you are an adult, well I can't help you and neither can anyone, ever.

Lord of the Rings online offers buddy keys to be given out and one does get 30 days of free-game time to go with it.
I am a lifetime subscriber on Lotro and if I have a buddy use a key I get 30 days of free-game time.
That may seem like so little but I can at least give that game time to a friend so thus making my friends game time to 44 days.
Don't expect to get anything different if Cryptic does start giving out a reward for the buddy keys since there is precedent with another lifetime-game subscription.

I sort of, in a very small way (don't tar me with the same brush :P) agree, a little bit, with the OP.
I can give the codes to my friends and that's cool, i've already given out two of them.
While it don't feel entitled to getting free stuff, a little something for bringing them customers would be nice, a limited edition action figure or something maybe, 60 Cryptic points (so you can buy an action figure from the store).
I'm happy enough that i can give keys to people and if just getting friends to play is my reward then that's great, of course i wouldn't complain if they threw something extra at us too.
However, i also don't think the buddy keys should be just for lifers. I think everyone who has an active subscription (has paid for a month and isn't still on the free one) should get some buddy keys, it can only help increase the CO subscriber base so i can't see that being a bad thing.

On that note, I don't know anyone who would want to play CO, and I have the 3 keys from my lifetime sub. If anyone out there could make use of them send me a message.

Something that you get out of it?
How about the ability to answer a friend who says, "I'd like to try the game, but don't want to pay out until I can be sure I'll like it" that their wish has been granted? As a lifetime subscriber, you have a bigger chance of convincing friends to join you in a game you felt confident enough about to pay for a lifetime's worth of access in advance.
Non lifetime subscribers do not, as yet, get that perk.
And let's not forget that, seen in that light, these three buddy codes are actually a surprise perk to the lifetime sub.
In short - I'm a lifetime subscriber, and I'm pretty happy about the deal.

I actually did think it was a bit odd that they didn't offer anything myself.
Do I really care? No. I'll still give buddy codes to the people who are at least partially interested when I talk about it. Rewards are nifty, but at the same time, I don't feel the need for them.
I find the conversation funny though... when there are issues with the game, people will constantly defend the problem by comparing it to other MMOs and such (how many times have we heard the "But it's a new game, all MMO's are like that at launch... in XXX, this happened" line), but people are on other people's backs about expecting something in return for referring a friend, when, using the same logic, most every other MMO has some sort of incentive for doing so. So if a person feels entitled to some sort of reward for doing so, that's because thats what the rest of the industry has ingrained in their mind is "normal".

Usually you are rewarded after the game has been out for a year or so. CO has been out for a month and is still trying to find its feet, and you're already whining about rewards for refering friends?
I'm surprised they've even handed out buddy codes.
