So ive been spending alot of time skimming the forums, reading up on this and that, but havent seen or come across anything with methods for the subject of this thread.

Im looking for various ways of coping with flying targets. Such as if i DONT take a flight based power. How do powers like iron lariat and other knockback, etc powers affect flying enemies if used from the ground? Or if i were to use say teleport to appear next to a flying target and lay into them with somethin with some sort of stun/knockback.

I ask because i have been playing around with various build concepts for some themes im working on using the champion builder and have only found a select few powers that state they cancel travel powers either on their own or through an advancement.

Thrown objects seem to knock out flight powers fairly well.

if you don't want to use boxes, get a travel removal power. thunderbolt Lunge, Conflaguration, Hurl, and there may be a few more that I don't know about. All powers that can remove travel powers do require you to get an advantage- but they are very useful when you are facing someone who can out run/out fly you.

You would be suprised, if you look around there is quite a bit to throw granted you have the str.

Shotgun blast always ****ed me off... i think that was the one.

if i recall from the builder actually theres also containment field. One of its advantages removed travel as well.

I didnt know there was a power in the fire set that did , man i got more to learn.

I guess i was mainly curious about what effect using a knock toward like iron lariat/chained kunai shuriken toss or how a knockdown/hold affects a flying target. Its a bit hard to test in the powerhouse with the current lack of flying dummies lol. i appreciate the current input thus far though. Since i know one of my characters will be most likely utilizing teleportation and acrobatics ive had to come up with solid yet still fun workarounds for flying enemies.

Are you talking about PvP or PvE?

For PvE, the melee set builders have a built in "taunt" that will cause the enemy AI to fly down and come within melee range of you.

For PvP, You'll have to purchase one of the travel power disabling advantages. There are no reliable melee ranged holds/stuns. Most of them are ranged effect to begin with. The only workaround for melee in not getting the anti-travel advantage is to use a pulling ability like Iron Lariat and then hitting them immediately afterwards with an instant stun/hold. Other than that, melee is always at a disadvantage against flying ranged opponents.

Flying Ranged w/ Cripping Challenge vs. Pure Melee w/o Tunnelling = dead Melee.

Throw items are everywhere, even in arenas and inside buildings. You shouldn't ever have any trouble reaching for one.

So what would happen from using Crippling Coils on a flying enemy?
Ive got a few ideas for setting up each of my characters to counter flying.

It will not pull them to the ground. The main question is do you have ranged or melee attacks. If you have ranged attacks, none of this really matters. You will be able to hit them anyways. Take any hold you feel like as an interrupt. If you are melee, you're going to need 3 dimensional anti-kite abilities.

Lol i guess it was wishful thinking that crippling coils could do that. Shame, i think knockback powers.. at least some should have the option to knock a flying target out of the air. Ive debated making one of my builds a full blown melee which even then i could still get up to an enemy either by means of a quick teleport/attack or using something like mighty lunge . All in all im a melee style player but i plan on incorporating some ranged abilities in most of my builds as it is.

Looks like the rest is up to the power buildouts i come up with.
