I keep seeing this magical 20% number being thrown around and would love an explanation.

The way I have it is Dex/Ego as super stats, and str as my third. I currently only have 115 str and would love to know what number I should attain at level 40 to achieve this 20% damage buff.

Damage scales off your superstats only. If you didn't pick strength as a superstat, then it doesn't contribute.

That is incorrect.

Melee damage has it's own damage buff cap of 20% independent of Super stats.

How much strength from gear/talents that requires I don't know, but someone on this forum does.

That's what I'm hoping for!

Fail. Strength damage bonus is in fact Independent of superstats.

You want to know how many STR will give you 20%? 100. Done, answered. Let me reference to the proof:

I cant find the exact post where the dude figured out it took 5 STR for 1% damage, but I remember reading it, here are some examples.

I've read those posts and a few others in the past couple of weeks but I can't find anyone specifically mentioning 100 as the magic number. I have had various people tell me it is 120 or 125 at level 40 so I would love to get a valid response.

Actually, most stat formulas are level dependent so the answer is probably "it depends on your level."

Well I know for a fact I read a post with crazy formulas that I didnt link. I didn't bookmark that one. It said 5STR = 1%

Anyway, why dont you get a bunch of STR gear and just test it in game?

My original post asked for a level 40 characters because sooner then later we are all 40 so I figured I should figure it out for end game gearing.

I usually use spread sheets and dps meters to test things like this but this game is still young and I have no formulas.

The link you provided was helpful because it provided the formula:
melee damage mod: 2/3*6.26*strength/level

plug in the info [ 0.66 X 6.26 X (100/40=2.5) ] I supposedly get +10.4% damage mod for having 100 strength at level 40

now which is it?
your saying 100 str @ 40= 20%
the formula is saying 193 str @ 40= 20%
and I was told it was 120 str @ 40= 20%

I was saying 100 STR at 40. The link I previously stated was just one I found while replying. The thread with 5STR = 1% I lost, never bookmarked it. The guy had very convincing numbers though....

EDIT

Could be about 10% seeing that it should take more STR at 40... at lvl 40 100 strength isnt much.

I just spent the past hour trying to dig up some info but I couldn't find any :(

I think the formula that equates to 193 STR @ 40 being cap is the one I'm going to go with.

Thanks for your help broski

MMMhh the Devs stated you could achieve it without STR SSd, just with a little effort on gear.
193STR not SSd with Gear is a lot of effort, even at 40.

So my friend and I have a disagreement on strength. He claims that strength contributes to damage dealt by ALL powers (lightning, force blasts, fire blast, etc) I've been searching forums and get different answers everywhere. My understanding so far is that STR only affects knock-back for melee powers (and some other blasting powers that do KB like Force Blast). Someone please clarify.

On a separate topic that should probably be in a new post - what are the best stats for a "blaster" (small health, big damage)?

I managed to get my strength to 164 with minimal effort. I could attain the 193 but I'd rather keep the 30 points in dexterity instead.

Strength isn't my super stat, all it took was 400 ARMs skill.

164 str
279 dex
