Danny Sevrence would never refer to himself as a "Champion". He does not do what benefits innocents out of what he thinks is right, he does it if he gets paid to do it. Sarcastic, light-hearted, and having something of a gambling addiction, Sevrence took the chance of being hired by a small mob under VIPER, the name of the family's boss was named Angler. Angler was a villain, who based himself mostly around the docks of Millennium City, keeping his business going in a warehouse next to a fishing depot. Sevrence was hired by them on several occasions, most of the jobs to either cover Angler's men during a bank heist or to snuff out cheap Champions. The names of the fallen champions include: Red Mole 1, Radiation Roach, and Termite.
Sevrence knew he was getting into trouble, remembering that the one who taught him everything he knows about guns and sword play, Wade W. Sun, told him to never trust a criminal, however, he was far too stubborn, and was getting paid WAY too much to care, besides, everything was working out so far.
"What's up, fishy face?" Sevrence asked Angler one day, answering one of his calls to meet him, anticipating his misson, and his pay. Angler smiled and said "Sevrence, you're a gambling man, ain'tcha?". With a small smirk, Sevrence nodded and said "you might call it an addiction of mine". The two of them laughed, and Angler stopped. Sevrence continued laughing, and stopped just in time to see Angler motion with his hand, and then nothing. He'd been knocked unconcious by the butt of one of Angler's cronie's pistols.
Awakening to the sounds of laughter and voices, Sevrence opened his eyes slowly and went to scratch his head, but he was unable. Nearly his whole body was encased in cement, his forearms and everything above his stomach were all that were free. He looked down and stared for a moment, then said to himself, "Well... this sucks...". He heard a laugh, and he looked back up to see Angler and his toadies standing in front of him. They were on a dock, and Sevrence's cement casing was nearly hanging halfway off.
"Would it be too cliche to ask what is the meaning of this?" Sevrence chuckled to himself, finding himself unbelievably witty. Angler laughed and said "Get ready to dump him" to his lackeys. Sevrence shook his head and said "Wait, WHA??? What the hell is going on here?!". Angler sighed and said "Well, Sevrence, ya done good, helped us rake in a ton of dough and even knocked off a few of the so called heroes that was always in our way, but here's the thing, see, you're too dangerous to be allowed to live. What happens if someone from an enemy family pays ya more ta' rub us out?"
Sevrence stood still (not that he had much of a choice) and said, "Soo, you're just gonna push me into the ocean? You're supposed to be a big, bad villain, and you can't come up with anything cooler, or more fitting to your theme than this?". Angler smiled again and reached into his pocket, pulling out a single, white with black spots 6-sided die. He said "i asked if you was a gamblin' man. So here's what we're gonna do, see, i'm gonna roll this here dice, and- " Sevrence cut him off, "It's called a DIE when there is only one." . Angler stopped for a second, then went on, "and whatever number i roll, that's how many time my boys are gonna shoot'chyas."
Sevrence rolled his eyes and said "That is so incredibly lame. is that supposed to be like, symbolic for my gambling addiciton or something?". Angler rolled the die, and it landed on 2. Without hesitation or time for a snappy comment from Sevrence, BANG, BANG. Sevrence was shot in the chest twice, and they shoved him off into the water, then left him there to die.
All was silent. All was cold. All was dark. Sevrence was fully aware of what was going to happen, and he was ****ed for being so stupid. OF COURSE they would want him dead, they are the greedy mob. All he could do now was wait. Wait for death.... But someone had other plans for him..
Coughing up who knows how much water, Sevrence opened his eyes to see none other than Amphibian, a well known champion in Millennium City, kneeling above him. "...Did i die and go to circus hell or something?" is the first thing he asked. Amphibian said, "Thats gratitude.." A voice came from in front of Sevrence, saying "Now now, it's ok. That's our job." and he looked over to see Defender, The big kahuna, the hero of heroes.... and the most annoying, to boot.. "Wasn't i like.... shot?" Sevrence asked, and a low, growly voice answered, "I took care of that.." and he looked over to see Dr. Silverback holding the two bullets in his hand.
Sevrence blinked a few times and said "....So.... Three of you came to save just me?". Defender laughed and said "Oh, no no, we heard gunshots and thought to investigate. Amphibian here found you. we also found this." he held out his hand and showed Sevrence a white, 6-sided die. Sevrence looked at it silently. "Who did this to you, son?", Defender asked.. Sevrence looked at him and said "Do... not ever all me 'son' if you know what's good for you, clown."
"A low rate fish-faced prawn-smelling sal****er lovin' creep named Angler did this." Sevrence said, smiling at the most inventive insult towards Angler yet, ashamed it only wasn't to his face. Defender looked at Dr. Silverback, then at Amphibian, he then turned towards Sevrence and said "..Never heard of him". Sevrence sighed and said "OF course...". It was only then that he realized he was still encased in concrete. "..Wanna help me out of this?" He asked, and Defender nodded, raising his fist. Before he knew what happened, Sevrence was shrieking and writhing, screeching "WHAT THE FUH-JUH, ARE YOU NUTS?!". Defender said "We do that all the time, what's the problem?". Sevrence said "YOU COULD HAVE JUST-... Dear lord, look at me. i'm yelling at a superhero. ugh. Whatever, give me that die". Defender nodded and dropped it into his hand. Sevrence turned around and walked away. Defender said "HEY, wait, where are you going??". Sevrence looked back and said "To find a TOWEL or something". he then stopped and looked back, saying under his breath, And.. er... Thanks..". The heroes went their own ways, and Sevrence had plans of his own.
Back at his apartment, Sevrence was displeased to see it ransacked, as if no doubt Angler's men were tearing the place apart, looking for anything of value. He found was he was looking for, a large, brown treasure chest that looked like the lock was bashed at, but was not broken open. He opened the chest after unlocking the lock, and he pulled out two swords, which belonged to his trainer and friend. he slung them both over one shoulder, grabbed all the money he had stashed and left the apartment with the door wide open, not intending to ever go back to it.
"I need two pistols. Don't care what kind they are, as long as they can make bullets go through things." Sevrence said, stopped at the gun store on the corner of his neighborhood. He purchased the weapons, plenty of ammo, and stopped outside the door. He pulled the die that determined his fate out of his pocket and looked at it. He thought for a moment about what he always had been, and what he had to become. He went back to his apartment and found a dark grey and white colored body suit he used to wear when he had to be sleek and sneaky and he put it on, amazed to see that it still fit great. After searching for more materials, he shut his door and sat at his desk.
Later that night, Angler and his men were peddling weapons to a low rate street gang in a warehouse by the docks, as usual, sitting around at tables, everyone chatting together, examining the crates of weaponry and explosives, drinking coffee, and things of that nature. "Ey, Johnny!" Angler called to one of his henchmen, "Go get us some more booze!". Everyone laughed and the henchment he called Johnny opened the large, front door to the warehouse, looking straight forward to see he was looking right down the barrel of a pistol, held by a short, relatively scrawny man wearing a full face mask, dressed in all dark grey, black and white with two swords on his back. He looked into the man's solid white eyes, and the man said "What's Shakin'?" and pulled the trigger.
"WHAT THE?!" Angler screamed, watching Johnny fall to the ground after the loud shot, seeing no one standing where the killer should have been, arming himself with a rifle, and his henchmen and the gang all did the same with various weapons. "What is this??" The leader of the gang asked, frightened. Angler looked all around, nervous, replying "I don't know, this ain't my doin', see?".. Another howl came from one of his men, who fell to the ground with a sword shoved through his chest, but no one at the handle.
With a gasp, and a blur of grey, the figure fell down and landed right in front of Angler, standing up and saying, "Ey there, fishy face!" with a wave. Angler Opened his eyes wide and yelled "SEVRENCE!". Before he could give an order, Sevrence spun around, firing his pistols one after the other rapidly, and then faced Angler, every henchman and gang member falling down around them. Angler pulled his gun on Sevrence, but he was too quick, drawing his second sword and hitting the gun out of his hands with it. Angler backed up slowly, falling onto his butt and crawling back, Sevrence stepping forward with each step he took back.
"You a gamblin' man, Angler?" Sevrence asked, smiling under his mask. Angler was shivering with fear, salt water oozing from his pores. Sevrence went on, "I ASKED... if you were a gamblin' man.." Angler was shivering harder, having a flashback of what he said to the kid before what he thought was murdering him.. "So.. Here's what were gonna do, see..." Angler was even more terrified by the impression Sevrence was doing of him. He'd been backed up into some barrels by now.
"I got this die, here.. And whatever number i roll, that's how many times i'm gonna shoot'chyas..." Angler was scrambling for something, anything to defend himself with. Sevrence rolled the die, and Angler watched it bounce until it finally stopped... he looked at it... Five.. Sevrence smiled again and pulled his pistol out, aiming it at Angler's leg and immediately firing. Angler howled in pain, and Sevrence took his second shot at his other leg, then the third at his arm, the fourth as his other arm.. Angler was crying and begging, "Sevrence, i'll do anything you want, just don't do this!"... "Sevrence is dead." Sevrence said, pressing the barrel of his pistol between Angler's eyes. Angler crossed his eyes to see the barrel, and Sevrence pulled the trigger.
"This is that Angler guy?" Defender asked the MCP Chief, who was taking down notes at the scene of Sevrence's killing spree. "....You don't think that kid had anything to..." Defender said, stopping because he knew the chief had no idea what he was talking about. He looked up through one of the skylights, unable to see much because it was nighttime, but he did spot a silhouette of something. Something with pure white eyes looking down on them. Then it was gone. Defender smirked and said "Keep up the good work, Chief. The City calls." and he flew away.
Sevrence stood alone on a distant skyscraper looking down at the city He would no longer kill innocents or champions. He'd been reborn. The name he'd taken for himself: Dice.
