View Full Version : Melee + Ranged Viable?

I want to make a Single Blade / Ice character but I'm not sure if its really viable. I mean, the idea is cool, but I'm not sure about the synergy and stats. This shouldn't be a problem but with the nerf patch and insane Retcon costs I'm looking to make my character as effective as possible. Single Blade stats are Strength + Dexterity, Ice stats are Recovery + Dexterity. I just don't really understand how I should focus my stats besides these 3, and I'm questioning if this is viable at all. Any advice or help would be appreciated... thanks.

I'm using an Ice/Dual Blades build (actually I do have one single blade attack, but I picked dual blades for my second attack and will choose one or two more from that set as well - unfortunately respecing out of that single blade attack was already too expensive several levels ago).
I'm only level 17 but so far Ice and melee seems to go pretty well together, as Wall of Ice with Frozen Footsteps is my bread and butter attack and it requires me to get up close. I'm still a bit concerned if I'll be able to continue to get along fine without a defensive slotted passive though, as I'm currently using Ice Form instead.
As for the stats, well, there are probably more efficient ways to do things than what I've done, but I've got endurance and constitution as superstats, though I've also got my dexterity up reasonably high through items and focus(?) skills.
Oh, and doesn't this belong in the combat and powers sub forum by the way? :)

Nah I think this is more of a general gameplay question. Bump.

Anyone? Just need to know if this is viable or not...

I don't see why not. Just pick Dex obviously because it's shared between the two sets. Then either pick Str or Rec based on what you think you'll doing more, DB or Ice. You can make the rest up in gear. It also depends a lot on what your passive offense/defense scales with, and other stat scaling powers obviously.
