View Full Version : What EXACTLY do you need to break Holds?

Seriously I am wondering what I need to do to break out of holds quickly. I chose STR and EGO as my Super Stats and I alternate END + CON + EGO + STR on other stats in order to get the four stats well balanced as possible with STR and EGO the highest. Yet I still get held for 5-10 seconds easy, and cant figure a way to actually set up a character so they can ignore or at least break out quickly of holds. And yes I tap the button to break free.

I got like 180% + for intangible and tangible and still end up held. Starting to **** me off.

When you get held /tweet something... by the time you're done with the tweet... you should be un-held

I sometimes think Ego/Str make negligible differences against holds. I've had characters with both STR and EGO as super stats, yet I got held for a looooooooonnngg time by the same holds on both toons. For example, the hold from Electricity lasts FOREVER on both of those toons. I don't even know if it's considered a "tangible" hold or not, but it last waaaayyyy too long for someone who supposedly has a super stat to lower the duration.

I really wish each hold had a label stating whether it was tangible or intangible, it would make testing alot easier.

Make sure you pick up the gear which doubles your hold resistances. There's a helmet from a desert mission which gives +100% hold resist and +0.5 energy regeneration (whatever that means), and most likely some other stuff.

I still havent had any luck with resisting anything at a dependable rate though. I mean, I'm not asking to be invulnerable, but when I specifically make a hold resistant character both in terms of supers and gear, and taser arrow *still* lands on the first hit 5 out of 5 times, it seems kinda pointless. I've ended up just supering con so that I can try to outlive it.

STR has the most effect against hold, the more STR then more chance to resist a hold and the easier to break out of it. There is also alot of items with bonuses against the different kinds of CC's

STR does not help against intangible holds, I believe.

Last I knew during OB there was a pretty noticeable difference. Crippling Coils was 100% useless against strength heavy characters 'cause it'd break as fast as you could cast it.
The internal Hold cooldown made the lack of a reset completely useless as well (it applies to yourself, not your target, so you're holds don't work on anyone after using one a couple times too fast).

STR does not help against intangible holds, I believe.

Only EGO helps against those. I should know, I just came from being chain held by Condemn.

Resist, both hold and element type if applicable, have the biggest effect on holds.

Bear in mind, resist also does not mean immunity. Take the "Hold resistance" buff after you actually do manage to get out of a hold. It doesn't prevent you from being held, just makes it far quicker to break out. I say this knowing that there are some buggier holds that are stronger than they should be.

Stat-wise, strength is for "Tangible" holds. Stuff that grabs you and keeps you in place. Ego is for the "Intangible" holds, like ego hold.

I would imagine Taser falls under intangible, but I can't be certain.

Lastly, passive offensive forms have a very significant effect on hold resistance. Active forms also help you to break out of them, but I've never been partial to the whole 12 second for over a minute recharge thing.
