View Full Version : Themed Ego Blades - creativity?

Hey everyone! I've been mulling over the powers for a while now, and I've hit a wall of non- or un- creativity. First I'll explain the concept I'm going for in my Hero, his powers, and what I want him to focus on.

My character has the power to manifest things from his dreams into reality. He remembers something from one of his dreams and it can appear before him. The catch is that he hasn't dreamt since he had 3 very distinct dreams as a child. These dreams were of War, Peace, and Chaos. He can't quite remember everything from all his dreams but as he continues to do good he remembers more, and thus gains more 'powers'. His reason for fighting is to fully remember the Chaos dream he had because it's been weighing heavy on his conscious recently. He can't remember exactly what it is that haunts him while he's awake, but once he DOES, he'll manifest that fear and defeat it in the physical realm.

This manifested fear turns out to be his first nemesis and ends up escaping his grasp initially. At that point his goal is to find and defeat his greatest nightmare.

Anyways, that is some back story (sorry if it was a wall of text for you), but It's crucial to how I want to build my character, because his 'creation' powers are from his dreams...normally this would be limitless, but I wanted to give specific dreams a certain theme to limit my character and give some direction.

Here is one structure I came up with for my hero: My goals are to do PvE and be effective in a team setting with PvE and PvP. I want to have synergy and efficiency among my abilities, but I'll sacrifice a little of either to better fit my theme (IE. no medical drones).

I started with War, represented by the Ego Blade attacks. I added shadow form because it fits the chaos dream... and a few other themed abilities. I'm hoping any force eruption can turn out to be 'peace' based... But I've just hit this block where I can't really think of what else to add. Summon Nightmare seems like an ability that fits perfectly for my concept, but are there other pets that are ethereal looking (such as command animals)? I'm looking for some useful abilities that would fit under my 'peace' dream...and possibly a few more chaos ones.

Superstats - I know I want end, but for my other superstat and my third stat to focus on...Dex/Ego because I didn't know what else to get. If I can fit some more support themed abilities here, I wouldn't mind focusing on presence and something else.

I'm currently on a short vacation now and don't have direct access to the game, so I'm not really scared or knowledgeable of the 'nerfs' and what is good right now, what is not (lack of accurate patch notes).

Suggestions? Feedback? Criticisms? all is welcome.

After posting this, I had a few questions to those of you that know more than I:

Do I need Ego Blade Breach AND Ego Blade Annihiliation? I've seen a few other TK based builds only take EBB and not EBA.

Last I checked I didn't really care for the Telekinetic Shield graphic, so I'm open to a different shield (was looking at ebon void-chaos, force shield-peace, and even energy shield-peace). This would set back my other blade abilities a bit, but I'm not too worried about that. What shield would you suggest to fit this theme?

I had just read the article about Blood Moon after posting this. It looks like I'll be able to find some rightly themed 'peace' abilities in the new Celestial power set that will be out in October. Now I'd just have to worry about leveling too fast and requiring a full retcon by then.

As for the block power, I use Force Shield from the Force Framework with the Force Sheaf advantage. This extends a bit of blocking after you stop blocking for some added protection while fighting. I also use Personal Force Field for my defensive passive as it fights the theme best. I haven't picked up an offensive passive yet. I tried Shadow Form but the graphic effects were bugged on my system or something. It looked horrible and did some odd things with my costumes.

Condemn is a great AOE hold and dmg to boot. Probably fits your concept. You could use an aoe hold, and probably a ranged attack.

Cool, I'll keep those powers in mind. I honestly don't remember the graphic for condemn, but it does sound like it will fit.

A column of dimensional / nether energy smashes onto targets. Play with it an powerhouse and you can decide if it works. Good luck :).

If you're taking the incisive wit advantage (which you should since you don't have ego form), ego surge gets a 30 second cooldown every time it procs, making it unusable all of the time unless you use it before you engage the enemy.

Yes, thanks Mur for that. I'm well aware of Incisive Wit, but some readers may not be and might question it. I re-read your post after posting all of this, and I didn't realize that when I was testing my character...

during the headstart, before I went on this vacation i'm on now, I was playing just dandy with incisive wit triggering ID blades, using ego weaponry and blade frenzy to handle anything that comes my way. After taking PFF early (to better handle missions and do a little pvp in tier one), I got ego surge for the increased damage % it gives me. I mainly use it on fights I know are going to be hard off the bat so I don't have to wait at all for ID blades proccing. Ironically every time I'd open with it I'd get held and actually needed to help break free, rofl.

Incisive Wit is crazy useful and well worth it. I can down groups w/o it, but it makes things so much easier. It's also an advantage that involves thinking (or in my case remembering), so it fits my theme well.

I really will have to look into this celestial set coming out in a few months because I feel I'm really lacking anything from my 'Peace' dream. But at least retconning my char also makes sense in my theme, regarding the limitations of my character and what not. Yay!

*Edit* - Anyways is this 30second cooldown a new addition? or no? Mind you I haven't played since the head start. I'll still find the ability useful to open fights with, but it really puts a damper on using it break out of holds...if I had just procced ID blades for instance. Maybe they changed it because it was TOO good of synergy to be had. Something I'm really going to have to consider.

The shared 30 second cooldown between incisive wit proccing and ego surge is a post beta change, but i'm not sure exactly when it was changed. They worked together in beta though. Was probably changed when they nerfed all of the passives, but who knows.

While messing around with it a bit, i found myself unable to use it unless i activated before i started shooting. The proc rate on Incisive wit is is quite high of course and 30 seconds is a long time. I also don't know what i'd get instead of it though so it might still be worth it just to get the initial 5 or so seconds of dual id blade up on a boss before incisive wit procs.

Its a shame too. I was going to take the advantage that effects crit with ego surge, but with Incisive Wit i rarely can use it.

posted a ticket about it and was putted in the db to be looked at... we need just to hope because the last power i took was ego surge but now i can barely use it.. it was even very good to just rely on incisive wit proc and use ego surge for break the hold.

Do the other energy builder procs trigger a cooldown on active offensive buffs too? Kind of silly to imagine this was a purposeful change, but don't see how they could do it accidentally either.
