View Full Version : Wouldn't it be better to allow mission difficulty settings instead of nerfs?

Was running the Poe-owned mission, and the following got me to thinking. Previously this has been a challenging fight but I've come out on top. It was fun and I enjoyed the battle. This time around it was more frustrating than fun.

I even had some trouble with a few of the henchmen, but I am a force user and have roomsweeper so most stuff is flying thru the air instead of hitting me. Once I get to Mr. Poe I died 3 times, WHILE using consumables. I logged off in frustration and came back a half hour later to try again. The only reason I even beat him on the fourth encounter was that he happened to drop to green power ups. A case of lucking out. Even with those I had maybe a fifth of health left.

I don't remember seeing a recommended team size on this mission, maybe I missed it. Is that how it is going to be now? We can solo up to the final mission in an arc, but need to team to finish off the big bad SV in an instance at the end?

If that is the case I suggest you take a note from your competition and allow us to customize the difficulty. That way the people who want a challenge can set their difficulty up to the highest setting and those who want to solo can reduce it. This would obviously only apply to instances, but those are usually where we run into the most troublesome opponents.

Mission Difficulty settings, ala CoH, would be a great idea for this game. Bump for ideas that don't involve the nerf bat.

Giving people a choice to accommodate their desired playstyle is infinitely better than nerfs. It makes everyone happy.

I'm all for it.

This, so hard. Sinisister is now impossible to solo Talisman, but the rest of the mission is easy to plow through at lv 11. Seems stupid to have to call for backup for JUST the end.

Totally /signed.

Difficulty sliders and missions that change their difficulty based on team size.

Or even both.

CoX has had it for how long? CO doesn't need it because...? Just wondering.

Why do all MMOs have to start from scratch on so many issues instead of taking at least a moderate amount of lessons from the past *sigh*

They're trying to avoid autoballancing because:

1) It doesn't really make you feel like you're making a difference. If every challenge is set up specifically for you based on party size and difficulty setting, then you're not really thwarting evil or making a difference... you're just knocking down targets that YOU set up.

Heroes aren't supposed to be able to say "Hey, I'm having an off day, could you switch to 22s and wooden bats instead of 9 mils and aluminum?" Well... I mean they can SAY that... especially if they're spider man... but it won't HAPPEN.

2) It encourages solo play. I can tear ass through a mission by myself or I can take ten times as long plus the time it takes to get a team, and get pretty much the same XP reward? Um... no, and also bite me.

3) Makes the missions feel samey. When everything has to be scalable there isn't much room for hand crafted scripting. In city-of, one warehouse felt much like another. That sucked.

so much of the game is open world that they can't rely on difficulty sliders really.

it would still be nice to have them though. I'd love all the enemies in my instances to be Tough (except for the super villains.... they would be insane.)

Wich is wrong... why ?

I find the game far much fun and logical when I am able to do a lot of thing solo but need to group with other heroes to take on large bad boys or assault a lair. Super Heroes are supposed to be mainly solitary people that unite when confronted to bad guys... even the F4 usually adventure alone or by pair rather than always by 4...
