This is the accompanying thread to the roleplaying thread Riverhaven Rising Dawn – RP (link) (http://forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php?t=49843). Use that thread for in-character posts This thread is for out-of-character comments of all kinds, including rules and recommendations for the RP thread, as well as general commentary, questions, background and character bios that might not fit elsewhere, etc.

The rules are kind of simple really. Be respectful of your fellow posters. Golden rule and all that. Steel Magnolia has put together a great guide for Roleplaying with the League of Titans. You may find it here

I wanted to highlight this section, for those a bit too shy to read the entire thing.


We do forum roleplaying in a “round robin” fashion. Each person writes about their own character, what they are doing, and how they are reacting to the situation. These posts can be as short as a line or two, or as long as a few pages. We usually write in the third person past tense, so that the thread reads like a book. Please do not “auto” another person’s character!

“Autoing” is when you have another character do or say something without their player’s consent. You can write about actions or speech that the other character has already done, or you can coordinate with other players in the OOC thread or via PMs or email.

As the RP thread relates heavily to the League of Titans as a group and our individual characters, the thread will be loosely moderated. Your thread moderators will be Greyhawke and SteelMagnolia. They will keep the thread moving along and settle any disputes or resolve any continuity problems. Otherwise, you will see little administration.

As mentioned in the RP thread, it will be a semi-open format. While we accept and encourage posts from all comers, whether a member of the League of Titans or not, it would be helpful to the RP if you have some premise to be present. As this is a "day in the life" type of thread, there will not be a world shattering conflict to address and drawn in other heroes, at least not yet. ;)

Just don't tie your own history up too closely with previous posters until you are sure they are going to be active now that the game has launched.

Riverhaven is the Headquarters of the League of Titans and the home to many of its members as well. There are also residents, both hero and civilian, who are not members of the League of Titans. The public facilities include a popular nightclub (Event Horizon) and a premier research lab and diagnostic center. Riverhaven serves as the foundation for most of our 'day in the life' type of RP threads. For more detail see the link above.

This thread is set in the fall of 2009, six months after the Riverhaven Opening RP (link in above post). The initial post takes place on the morning following the six month anniverary celebration for the opening of Event Horizon, a spectacular nightclub frequently by many heroes whether they be League Of Titans members or not. The nightclub is part of the Riverhaven complex, situated in the 1st and second floors of the east wing.

Also celebrating its six-month anniversary, with much less fanfare, is the new Advanced Hero Diagnostic Center, an upgrade and addition to the Riverhaven medical clinic now open to serving the community at large. Much like the previous and ongoing community outreach program of the League of Titans, such as the apartment subsidies at the Riverhaven complex for heroes that cannot afford to work full time and hold down a hero career as well, the AHDC provides special advanced treatment for the unique needs of heroes, whether they can afford it or not.

This is a good thread to introduce your hero, and catch us up on what has been happening to them over the last six months. We will have action threads go up too, especially now that we are more familiar with what abilities our characters will be able to have within the framework of Champions Online. Whether those additional threads will be here, at our team forums, or even over on http://www.championsonlineroleplayers.com/ remains to be determined. I am sure there will also be transcripts forthcoming of in-game RPs as well.

Skye: I started here by messing up the loading dock, so outside damage is always a fun way to start out. By frying the medical section, are you talking about from the inside after they bring you in for treatment? Cause I know the buildings are really tough from the outside.

Not sure exactly what you are trying to do, but in the costume creator there should be radio buttons that say right, left, and both in the top right hand section. You can click on left, pick one look, then click on right, and pick another.

If that's not clear I can try some screenshots later, just can't get in the game right now :)

He has a tank top but his arms look different. So like you said I'll most likely do a long sleeve outfit and just change the hand for now. Hopefully they put in some options for the arm like they have for the hands, so you could do a long sleeve on one arm and no sleeve on the other.

It's not much, but I think the... harlequin (?) outfit has one sleeve and the other missing. It's two color, but if you set both colors to the same, you can have a solid color shirt with just one sleeve. It's not much, but it's something.

As a general rule of thumb, RiverHaven was designed to be pretty much indestructable/impenetrable/etc. The reason for this was to keep single players from basically hijacking the complex and essentially forcing other players into their RP. We have moderated threads we can do for folks who want to do more action-oriented stories with HUGE explosions. :D

As far as RiverHaven goes, for the most part you can assume that pretty much anything you throw at it, there's some failsafe/safety/forcefield that goes into effect. No hostile TP in or out, etc. Less-than-catastrophic damages may occur in isolated areas, as long as it's the general concensus of the folks RPing in that area are okay with it.

We did destroy the CoX RiverHaven in one RP arc, but it was again done by general consensus by the SG that we wanted to do it.

If you want to blow up the Medical Suite, i.e. the RiverHaven hospital, you'll need to PM me. So far there's nobody RPing in there, but historically my character Dr. McCoy has run it. :)

If you want to blow up the metahuman research lab, you'll need to talk to Dr. Graviton. I'm not sure how much he comes to these boards, though, so it's best to PM him over on the leagueoftitans.net forums.

If you want to blow up anything else, it's probably best to PM me or Greyhawke, and we'll try and give you some guidance.

To reiterate the point - the main thing is we don't ever want to force another player to participate in our own RP line, in the "Day in the Life of" type threads. It's an open, safe playground for everybody. Moderated threads, we pretty much assume that people who are writing there are up for whatever the moderator/GM wants to throw at them. :D

As far as the parking lot goes, I think it's safe to say a noticeable crater is fine. A HUGE crater... not so much. ;)

Also, you have to keep in mind that the mass involved has a lot to do with the size of the crater, along with the speed. If it's human-sized object, for example, it's not going to be massive. I'm sure you could find out the actual numbers and proportions with some research... if you want to go that far, of course.

Nexus and Mr. Regal are now in game. Nexus is starting into the desert. Regal on the other hand is massively bugged in the tutorial. Hopefully the character will be fixed soon. Expect Starshadow/Lance soon. Empyreal is there along with American Marvel and my duo gun pulp hero Captain Thunder.

Since most earthbound organisms are almost completely water based my field drones are actually water elementals bound into housings to project the life giving energies of water to heal people without drenching them. Which I could see causing certain hero types problems, specially ones that they arent from earth or ninety percent water.

Sorry I've been so lax in this. The haunted house I have been with for 8 years along with my kids' activities have been taking a toll on me this week. We're one week out from opening and there is still tons to do. . .something about walls and effects. . .I'm working over the lab this year and spent last night stuffing evil clowns along with sorting costumes and helping design the room to hang up said costumes (our racks self destructed on load-in day!). I have singing and acting rehearsal tomorrow for it too.

Lamprey is an evolved electric eel. His people went through a magical evolution during the troubled times of lemuria past as they lived near the borders of the kingdom. Quickly gaining sencience as they gained telepathic and telekinetic powers, and still possessing the electrical discharges of their predecesors. A society was quickly formed though not a large one as to keep it hidden from the war going on in Lemuria. The eels soon used their impressive telepathic abilities to learn from their neighbors of science and culture and started to create artworks and buildings with the ease of master craftsmen using telekinesis. Thriving this way for hundreds of years they have flurished and many small communities have developed. Each well hidden within coral beds or other natural defenses. Though finding the use of technology to be redundant to their own abilities a select few have become tinkerers and used knowledge from other races to create the cybernetic suits that allow them to leave the ocean and travel on land. The suits powered and controlled by the electrical charges flowing through their bodies naturally.

I PMed Greyhawke a while back and got his permission to join provided that I gave a good summary of my character. I would have done it sooner but some college assignments got in the way of things.

Name: Lansley Branford

Alias: Psycho Lotus

Biography: Lansley grew up with an ever-changing list of maladies, much to the bafflement of doctors who eventually diagnosed him as anemic. Assailed by Black-outs and dizzy spells, Lansley's parents hired private tutors to educate him until he was eleven years old. The only place he would visit during that time outside of the family's estate would be the hospital, where he'd have a weekly check up. Every time he went, he would get a bill of health that completely contradicted his symptoms and be told to come back again.

Six days after his eleventh birthday though he fainted in the house while doing his daily walking through the halls (part of his exercise routine). His sister, who was the first one to find him laying on the ground, was not too concerned as his fainting spells were not uncommon. This one however lasted longer than any previous spell, and after an hour Lansley was taken to the hospital. There he would stay for six hours until he was awaken by the sound of his own painful screams.

That day also happened to be the strangest in the hospital's history. Lansley's left arm was gone, in its place was a bloody mess that stained the sheets and walls. Lansley fainted within seconds of waking due to blood loss, and only survived the incident due to the fact he was in the hospital at the time. He spent another two days recovering from the blood loss and shock, during which time the head supervisor came to the conclusion that whatever was wrong with Lansley was not something his hospital could handle. He pulled aside Lansley's parents when they came to visit him the day after the incident, and urged them to put their child into a hospital with supernatural capacity. At first his parents were reluctant, but eventually agreed with the supervisor; after 11 years of nothing but more questions from modern medicine, they believed it might be time to turn to something more powerful.

The day after he was stabilized, he was transferred to the nearest hospital with a Supernatural Ward. The auguries and divinations would become a daily part of his life, as the doctors looked for supernatural causes of his ailments. He was a psychic, they discovered.

The ailments that he had suffered since birth were all advanced forms of unconscience psychometabolistic feedback. The doctors quickly prescribed to him an advanced antipsionic, which he would have to take every day until further notice. Even with the unusually high dosage (he was taking about seven times what most people with problematic psychic feedback would), his anemia and dizzy spells didn't completely disappear. They did however, become less of a burden to his life.

He was able to enroll in public school, though he still would manage to get the school's record for most excused early dismissals due to fainting and light headiness. He made friends, and when he got into high school he was excelling academically, taking most of his classes through the community college via a special program his high school offered.

His seventeenth birthday was a happy one, as he was finally told by his doctors that he could start lowering the dosage of his antipsionic. The projections estimated he'd be able to be completely off them within the year.

The reason this was such a great surprise for Lansley was because that meant he could finally get a cybernetic arm to replace the one he lost in the freak accident. He wasn't able to before because that antipsionics would have mixed with the medicines used to help 'cement' the natural nerves on his stump and the cybernetic ones together, and cause a lethal reaction.

Graduating at the top of his class, Lansley's graduation gift wasn't a car but instead a return to something close to normalcy. His grandfather, an illusionist (not a psychic one, simply a man with a talent for prestidigitation ) had convinced his parents to leave the selection of the cybernetic arm to him, telling his daughter-in-law that she could worry about the bill to attach the contraption.

His grandfather not only got him a high-grade prosthetic arm, but one made specifically for psychics. Special silver and orialcum laced wiring, psychogenic fluids instead of standard military grade white blood, it was an expensive piece of technology. Lansley thought it was a great gift, naturally.

His mother though hated being outdone, and also detested the fact that her father-in-law had gone behind her back after she had vocally made clear her intentions to try to persuade Lansley not to partake in psychic activities and demanded that Lansley get the arm removed.

When Lansley refused, his mother kicked him out of the house. He'd spend the next year or two in a small downtown apartment and working at a convenience store, all the while writing numerous letters to the many 'Academies for the Gifted" as well as super groups, requesting acceptance.

Powers

Psychotelepathy: Long distance interaction with minds. Also known as Telepathy.
Psychokinesis: Creating kinetic force with the mind. Also known as Telekinesis.


Quick List-o-Flaws

UPMF (Unconscience Psychometabolistic Feedback): Although he is no longer in constant danger of feedback, long periods of stress will begin to cause his anemia to act up, first with the increasing frequency of dizzy spells, loss of concentration, and eventually fainting. It also takes him a long time to recover from physical injures and illnesses.

No Transportation Powers: Due to his UPMF, he can't focus his psychic powers through his body. Doing so would just cause feedback as the powers would connect with his nerves, go to the brain, get sent out with a new psionic wave, and repeat until his nerves are fried. That means no using Psychokinesis on himself, no psychometabolistic enhancement of his muscles for super speed or jumping, no teleporting, nada. The closest thing he has to transportation powers is a bus pass, a liscense, and a bike.

Unorthodox: Spending most of his time by himself during his childhood, Lansley's has a tendency to come off as uncouth or tactless. His tastes are also likewise unusually varied, and his fashion sense is purely luck based.

I did build Starshadow into the game last week. I'm sorry for not being around. We got the haunted house open by the skin of our teeth (its featured in Rue Morgue for Sept. buy now before its gone!). Scared the snot out of several people (even made two literally pee on themselves!) and had a great time for the opening this past weekend.

So I'm really sore from that but I will be doing some writing and getting back into things here. And if I can get a shot at that celestial power set before time runs out at the end of the month, Nexus will be getting a major overhaul :).

For those in Andie's office - Tyger, Johnny, and Lance - Amara is attempting to use empathy to sway Andie to take her to St. Claire right away. For those without mental control resistance, it would tend to spill over, making them want to go see St. Claire too. For those who aren't affected by mental control, I'll leave it up to you to decide whether you'd detect it. Otherwise she'll mostly seem like a foreign older teenager who doesn't really understand the local language and customs.

Ohh Lamprey's abilities would pick up on that like radar pinging a submarine, especially growing up near Lemuria it would be easier to pickup their signature. Anyone in the lobby would be able to hear him as "Who is Katherine St. Claire." Psionics would deffinately pick up his probing for the answer.

Ohh Lamprey's abilities would pick up on that like radar pinging a submarine, especially growing up near Lemuria it would be easier to pickup their signature. Anyone in the lobby would be able to hear him as "Who is Katherine St. Claire." Psionics would deffinately pick up his probing for the answer.

Pinkmagus, great time to jump in and help subdue the wayward Lemurian. Just nobody kill her. For the sake of my vanity, I'd rather no single person take her down by themselves. ;) Feel free to do some simple team tactics. Doesn't have to be fancy.

The RiverHaven defenses will pretty quickly dampen meta abilities (including Amara's psionics and energy bow) down with force fields, EMP, and such, but knives and physical weapons won't be affected by things like that.

Security will be on the scene pretty quickly as well. I don't anticipate any kind of drawn out fight.

And normally, Lansley has no ability to conceal his own psychic energies so he'd stand out like a bonfire. But since he is just getting off of his anitpsionic drug regiment, he still has that as a buffer which would make it more 'normal' of a signature (working with what you already posted :3).

Mostly I was going with the idea that because they are both denizens of the deep, as it were, there would be some similarities between them. I was also going with the idea that it was like subs pinging each other - neither could feel the other until they actively tried to do psionics. :) I can edit it, though, if you'd rather?

o.o Lansley isn't a Denizen of the deep.... I think you are thinking of that other guy that wasn't "huggable", Lamprey. But that thing about Lansley is that he is technically "always" using Psionics, it's just a matter if he is 'shaping' it or not. If you had a psychic geiger counter and put it next to him, you'd probably blow an eardrum.

But don't worry about editting it. Maybe his signature just had some similarities to someone she knew, or maybe since the anti-psionic drugs were affecting his system it made his signature SEEM like something else.

Lamprey is in the lobby near Lansley so his psionics could easily be mistaken for her feeling me and targetting him.

I've loved the concept of Lamprey since I made him but RP'n him here has really brought him to life for me. I now know how he thinks and how he'll react to situations.

Even if he could, I can't see a specific IC reason for him too. Facing the Lorelei would be really fun, but chasing down ancient power isn't really his thing. He's not a coward, just not aggressive by nature unless hunting food or for protection. His people hide in the shadows or distract their enemies than attack when least expected, chasing someone so much more powerful wouldn't be in his nature unless threatened.
