What am I supposed to do with the Key to the City that the Millenium City Mayor gives to me? Can I sell it anywhere? Or double click it to get a new mission?

Who knows? It's worth 0 to a vendor, it's not a "click to begin mission" item...I just threw mine in the bank and forgot about it. Maybe they'll throw in some late-game purpose for it.

There is a bank? Seriously? Please explain!

In the ren center in MC. I can never remember which building is at which orientation, but it's one of the ones that's only open on one end.

There's one "vault" for your personal (per character) storage, and one for your super-group. I haven't actually counted the slots available.

I went in there and didn't see a vault. I'll have to look for it again.

Well, there's the 3 crafting buildings, the club, the UNITY building, the bank, and the auction house.
The only ones wide open on the inside but not the outside are the bank, ah, and arms crafting.

Bank is 7:00ish, I think. With the ah at 9:00.

You need to go talk to one of the people behind the glass partitions on either side to access.

Yes. The bank has pillars out front that look governmental. To the right of the bank (if you're facing it) is the market / auction house.

Again, here's yet another classic example of poor communication on Cryptic's part. Something as simple as a player bank. I had to go looking for it as well, after realizing through mere trial and error that the buildings in Ren Center all (mostly) do something specific.

toss it in the bank, at some point we will get a special bag for memento style items like that. It is just a commemorative, but we do want you to be able to hang onto those. :)

I've noticed on two of my characters that by the time I'm level 10 or so my key's disappeared. I never remembered to check earlier. I'm trying to remember to look in on it routinely as I start my next character. Has anyone else had one disappear? Is there any fancy slash-command to make it return, a la the pre-order bonuses in Guild Wars?

I forgot to pick it up form the mayor with one of my characters. I really hope that I will not be punished by that at some point. :/

The only time the key dissapared from my inventory is when I forgot to pick it up. May I suggest talking to the Mayor be a part of the quest chain so that can't happen?

Hmm I didn't get oen this time through. Well i got one in open beta but not not in early start. Figured they just got rid of it since you couldnt do anythign with it. I would have tossed it anyways. Not really a collector of things I cant show off.

Items frequently get "lost" if you have a shop window up and try to chat to people. Turns out the "enter" key that you press to start speaking is also a hotkey for "sell the selected item", and there is always a default selection.

Basically you have to close the shop window with a mouse click or you sell something when you start typing. Even knowing this it still happens sometimes. Items early in your item list are especially likely to go this way.
