CoX had the whole idea wrong when they came up with CoHeroes and only released CoVillains a few years later. I really hope CO isn't heading down the same path. By then, a very big portion of the community grew bored with the game and either left or played casually every now and then, resulting in the amount of villains being far superior to the heroes and the overall population, especially the PVPers, to be nearly all gone.
Now, with their new expansion on the horizon, they finally got it right. This is perfect, especially fulfilling the "RP" portion of MMORPG.
And with that said, I introduce you to the dark side. Give us the option to go through a series of events that will decide our future. If we handle the situations in a destructive, villainy manner, give us the possibility to "turn to the dark side". To go from Hero to Villain. Design new high level PvP zones with objectives for villains and heroes alike, providing open PvP.
Pros:
Prevents having to design whole new lowbie zones and tons of content for villains at heart.
Provides a much faster cost-effective way to retain your hardcore PvP players.
Allows villains and heroes to square off in a real super-jail break-out, as with your current hero game.
Allows you to start building a possible expansion for villains who wish to start as a villain, and who knows, maybe eventually go to the heroes side.
By providing PvPers, Roleplayers, villains and others a promise of an eventual possible "faction" change in a "near" future, you will retain a much grander portion of your players in the long run. It grants you the time gap needed in order to create a full new expansion for villains (if this was part of the plans, which i assume it was, though I may have been wrong).
It gives outcasts and loners a future where destruction and pure bad-assery is possible. It grants ME, a pure villain at heart the hope to eventually switch sides and square off with my ex-partners. To destroy the things they cherish. It allows me to join Foxbat in his ever-so-silly master plan to dominate the world.
God knows I'll be planting bacon everywhere to drive those Qularrs insane.
