well there goes all the dark vigilante type characters, Disney would probably not be interested in having a Mickey Mouse/Punisher Team Up

Yes. A Hulk and Hannah Montana crossover can't be far away! And just think, a Fantasia rewrite where Mickey Mouse steals Dr. Strange's wizard hat and makes the brooms go marching. Oh, and Kingdom Hearts will now include Sora, Goofy and Wolverine.
My Spider Sense is tingling and not in a good way.
Yikes.

Like Daffy and Donald did in Roger Rabbit ! it would be great to have a Trio...Duck Power!
I must have an old Howard laying around here in a plastic sheath with acid free cardstock backing..
this could put a weird hoodoo on the next Kingdom Hearts sort of thing... Like Thor in adventures in babysitting wired?

What would this mean for up coming Marvel movies? Ok the immediet ones are safe like Iron Man 2 but what about the ones that are only rumored or in the planing stages like the Avengers?
I am conserned but I think it best to wait and see what happens.
Edit: The above is a good point, Disney let Pixar have pretty much free raign but asked for a share in the rights and a share in the profits. They will probably do the same here.

you guys forget disney owned miramx, which put out out pulp fiction, trainspotting, the crow, and more.
just because disney owns them, it doesn't mean evrything's going to be all hannah montana.

I was just going to post this elsewhere. The news made me sad...like...crocodile tear sad...like..."I want free respec and a pony" sad.
Miramax is a good example, but a lot of that was the doing of the no less controversial Weinsteins.
Disney is a company that is quick to dismiss franchises that make less profit than others. It is a company that hardly ever deviates from the usual and polices a lot of its ownings very strictly.
I don't see things like the awesome Annihilation series happening under Disney.
I'm sad.

Let me recap that article:
We'll keep everything as it is. Just like Pixar (who are very happy little monkeys that get to make the same CG kiddie movie over and over...'scept Wall-E, that movie was nice).
Nothing changes.
Except licensing, that we'll look into.
We'll honor existing agreements until they can't sue us over breaking them.
You made some good videogames in the past, with established partners. We like that. Lets move the production to our in-house studios, Pirates of the Carribean Online is the ****.
Your licenses are used in 20 hours a week of childrens television. Lets make more toddler crap. (I smell a Deadpool / Avenger Duck crossover in the making)
Of course they are going to say all that crap. Of course they are going to contradict themselves even in the same sentences. Because we dig that ****, means we don't have to think for ourselves ;)

Maybe Spider-Woman...:o
But please... Spidey's already made a deal with the devil. He's already as debauched as it comes.

Today Disney acquired the Marvel Brand.
Today an integral part of my childhood just died.
We'll see just how 'interesting' this acquisition gets, but I remain skeptical that Disney will keep to the original standard that was.
So long, Marvel Comics. Tis a sad way for you to leave the world, not with a bang, but an over-managerialised whimper.

Judging from what I have been reading at wikipedia, this isn't a surprise.
Disney had been scoping out for a couple years.
As for all of those that are worried about what will happen to the quality of Marvel Comics just think about this:
- Back in the late 60s DC became a property of Warner Bros. DC Comics still seems fine.
- Disney probably has learned its lessons of "if it ain't broke don't fix it." I doubt we will see a lame cartoon musical with celebrity voices and talking animals (such as a wolverine) retelling the Dark Phoenix Saga from the perspecive of Princess Kitty Pride.
I am more concerned about the health of their "Chairman Emeritus" Stan Lee. The man born Stanley Martin Lieber is 86. We often refered to Captain America as a living legend but that is a title that definately goes for Stan "The Man" Lee.
Oh and who ever it was that said Pixar is lame, BITE ME! :p PIXAR is fricken SW33T!

Lets not forget that Disney also owns ABC, and that still show prime time drama crap shows that compete with the rest of the other networks, I am saddened that marvel sold out, but lets be serious that's a ton of zeros on the back end of that 4.
One things Disney does do well is market products. I doubt they are gonig to ruin it, well maybe not in my lifetime. And I have hundreds of comics to show future generations of how amazing they were in case Disney destroys things.
I'm gonna keep on being a true beeliever for now, it's all I got left :)
