I was waiting for this thread to get started, but haven't seen one. If it's already been started, apologies, I'll take my trolling like a champion.
What was the the tip that you learned that made you go: "Dang, if only I had known that 10 levels ago!"
Here are a couple that weren't immediately obvious to me:
The vendors selling donations to charity are selling you stars that you lost from being defeated.
To change the color of your power(s), right click the power in your hotbar, click the power, and then click the little rounded box in the upper right corner.
You can invite and join teams in combat! No excuses for killstealing!
I know there are a bunch more out there. Let's hear them!

Crafting Skill cap - once you reach cap at each 100 buy a lvl cap raise from the vendor - kllrjatt
Do the first crafting quest from any vendor, even if you don't plan to craft. You need the item to finish the first 'series'. While you are at it, make three extra small bags, you can hold 12 more items in your inventory for next to no cost. - Teksun

You can transfer items to your alts by sending a mail to yourself, using a UNITY terminal. There's one at the dropship in the desert and Canada, and several at the Renessaince Center in Millennium City.
Remember to collect your reward after a public mission. Look for the 'public mission icon' in the actual world which you can click. - MrTomas
If you're flying slow, land and full charge your travel power to get to max speed quicker. - CtrlFrk
When Teleporting angle yourself slightly up so you can take in account of the slight drop you will take between TPs. - Harbringer
Pressing Space Bar and nothing else flies straight up. - Harbringer
Check your inventory frequently. You will sometimes get an item that opens a new quest or quest line. It's sad to see a quest available that you never saw and is now grey. - Teksun
Don't know if this was mentioned yet, but you can *really* use crafting to your advantage by simply picking up the various nodes around the world. Each one gives a specific buff. Science nodes give a heal over time, mystic nodes give energy over time, and arms nodes give a damage boost. - Terranum
Building a Champion (Character generation/design}
Pick a nice Block power. Look at all of them as many do different things(Such as adding energy, or giving a bonus to the next attack & returning damage to the mob) Don't forget you need to replace your old block as it doesn't always "auto place" it over your initial blocking power. - Rogman
Get a power that can help keep you alive, and get it early. (Full post (http://forums.champions-online.com/showpost.php?p=871788&postcount=14)) - Zeris00x
You can change the default look of the weapons you use (guns, swords, etc.) by going to a tailor (NPCs with the Mask icon over them). - Ghartan
if you're unsure what travel power to pick, go with flight. It's your safest bet. Try testing anything else in the powerhouse to see if it suits you. - Xiru
Pet Health - If only I knew how important presence was to my build 10 levels ago. - JohnnyV
Importance of Roles/Builds (Link to Post (http://forums.champions-online.com/showpost.php?p=872841&postcount=19)) - Issmir
When buying new powers etc in the Powerhouse, make sure you test them. That way if you don't like the new power you can Respec it for FREE and choose something else, as long as you don't leave the Powerhouse building. - Jdoki
Changing a power's emanation point - click on the Champions "C" on the mini-map, select Powers, and the powers that will allow you to change emanation points will have a drop-down menu to the right of the power's name, right under the color box. - Aidalyn
If a power seems useless on paper, try it out. They might have a surprising advantage like instant cast, no cooldown, or no energy cost. - MrTomas
Look at what upgrades travel powers can give you. IE Swinging has an upgrade called "Flippin'" That will increase your dodge if Swinging is enabled. Real good for those that also take Lightning Reflexes Passive. - AraneaeFatalis
Be aware of coupling the correct research (Mysticism, Arms, Science) for your specific powers. (specifically the stats the items increase) (Link to Post (http://forums.champions-online.com/showpost.php?p=875117&postcount=53)) - Harbringer
Be sure to save your costume when you are playing in the editor, as you might want to rebuild your powers, change names, etc and this saves you time on rebuilding. - DocSteel
Combat Tips
Even if you're in the middle of charging an attack, if you see your enemy's about to use a nuke or hold power, drop what you're doing and block. It can really mean the difference between life and death. - Xiru
Difficulty of mobs, from easy to hard: Henchman, Villain, Master Villain, Super Villain, Legendary, Cosmic - Neberu/Keevi
You can buy consumable heals next to the tailor in the desert. They cost just 9 resources each and go in stacks of 4. - MrTomas (Maybe taken out of game at launch? - Need confirmation)
Some items have an activated ability. The "Gunslinger's Legacy" reward you get from the cowboy ghost town is a 6-shooter that fires around 10 shots in a large AOE. - MrTomas
You can toggle your auto attack to always on by going to options>controls. I found it helpful for melee as when you are surrounded you don't have to worry about your auto attack stopping when you switch targets. - Pawn79
Melee auto-attacks come with a 'ranged aggro' I think its called "Marked" or "Marking". So basically you can target a mob from farther away and use your Melee Energy Builder to gain aggro from out of melee range. This was put in balance out the fact that ranged can start getting energy from, well.. Range.. - AraneaeFatalis
In PvP select a Teammate and press 'V'. Now you will shoot at his target and together you might kill someone. Also useful in hard fights. - Harbringer
Standard enemy Health Bars are segmented. Henchmen have 1 segment, Villains have 2 segments, etc. These segments are all the same. So if you do 20% of a Henchman's health in one attack, that same attack will do 20% of one of the Villain's segments, too. - Acrizer

I think this means that you don't get Slight Insight from deconstructing normal loot you find. It's gotta be green or blue, a bit rarer than average item.

My advice? Take game hate you see in the forums with a large grain of salt. Remember, people who are happy about a game don't hang out in forums making post after post...instead they're playing the game. Those of us who DO post do so because A) We like helping other people B)We're at work, the boss isn't paying attention, and it beats doing what we get paid to do. Trust me, if we were at home with this much free time on our hands, we'd probably be playing the game. But the people who hate the game for whatever reason? Oh, they have plenty of time to be here kvetching. After all, THEY aren't playing the game <snicker>.

Get a power that can help keep you alive, and get it early.
Examples are:
Regeneration (Passive) [Supernatural] - Automatically ticks a heal to you whenever you're taking damage. This happens over a set period of time and isn't instantaneous, but the more damage you're taking, the more likely you are to get more frequent ticks. Higher ranks grant more healing.
Resurgence [Supernatural] - Your standard heal. I refer to it as a 'pocket heal'. You can hit it in just about any situation where you are in control of your actions, and it gives you a quick boost of health as the name states. It's great when you get yourself into a bit of a jam, and also nice to have to reduce downtime. Higher ranks grant more healing.
Empathic Healing [Telepathy] - A maintained heal. Hold the button down to continue healing yourself throughout the duration of the heal. It's a bit on the weak side in terms of healing, and harder to use in combat. The good news is, you can use it on others as well as yourself.
Psionic Healing [Telepathy] - A tap or a charged heal. If you just tap, you'll get a decent amount of health, but if you charge and then release the heal, you'll get a much more significant heal. Can be used on others as well as yourself, and there's an advantage that turns this heal into an AoE heal, which is pretty handy to have.
Invulnerability (Passive) [Power Armor] - A great damage resistance power. It resists a set amount of incoming damage which is scaled by your Strength, and then further reduces incoming damage only scaled by your Constitution instead. Since it's passive, it's really useful for giving you that extra resistance to keep you alive.
Personal Force Field (Passive) [Force] - Similar to Invulnerability, this power absorbs a set amount of damage, scaled by your Endurance. The only difference is it can only absorb a set amount, before it deactivates and must recharge.
Bountiful Chi Resurgence [Martial Arts, Single Blade, Dual Blades, Claws] - Fairly straight forward, it heals you over time and reduces your damage in the process. Not as useful as the other powers, but it's there, none-the-less.
Defiance (Passive) [Might] - This one's a bit interesting. Each time you get hit, you get a small amount of energy back, and you have a chance of getting a defense buff that reduces damage of all types for twelve seconds, scaled by your Constitution. It can stack fives times, and each time a new buff is added to the current stack, the timer refreshes. Pretty useful.
You can have all the attacks in the world and block to your heart's content, but if you don't have something to get you back on your feet, or keep you that way, you'll be in for some real frustration. Get at least one power that's dedicated to keeping you alive, and I promise it'll make your life much easier.

You can change the default look of the weapons you use (guns, swords, etc.) by going to a tailor (NPCs with the Mask icon over them).
Tailors work like the character creation system but has a new section at the top for weapons. So you can change the default Colt 45 style pistols to a 6-shooter from the old west, etc.
Edit to add ... bad news is there is no way to preview what the weapon looks like. So you have to buy Shotgun #2, go out and find some mobs to fight and see if you like the look. Return to Tailor if needed.

Roles are your friend, especially in team play.
Once you get past level 8, press B to look at your build screen. You'll be able to set up 2 builds immediately and switch between them at will by clicking the little icon of your character above your powers bar.
Look on the top right of the builds menu and you'll see a drop down menu - this will allow you to switch from a balanced role to an aggressive one (less max health but more damage) or a defensive one (less damage, more health, more energy from blocking) or a support one.
Practice the different roles and figure out when each one's right for you. It'll make a huge amount of difference as you progress.

You don't have to marry them and most people will accept the team invite if they know your doing the same mission. ;)

stay away from flavour of the month powers... They have a history of being nerfed into oblivion.
You can only send mailed items through the UNTIL machines... Normal letters can be sent from anywhere in the world

I'm not sure how valid this is for the other crafting professions but in mysticism, there are things you can build that you can then do research on, resulting in a loop of develop-research until you max. The researching doesn't give all the components back, so you still have to go out and "mine", but it's sometimes close. In the "crisis" zone (when you get out of the tutorial and into the next area), there are hotspots of crafting stuff. Farm them and go do this research-develop loop until you cap out at 100 (you can't go higher until you're L11)
The rating on "Research" is how much of a skill increase you'te going to get, not a "chance of success". Even a 0 rating experiment will still give you the materials.
If you find innocent people getting threatened by a bunch of bad guys, their thanks will actually give you 500xp (I'm not sure if you actually have to stick around for them to come up to you and thank you to actually get it, though)
Improving Dex (and presumably Ego) will actually increase your chance to crit on heals (including Regeneration ticks). If you didn't put anything at all in dexterity, you basically never crit, it's worth it to put some points in it, no matter what you do...
The bank and the market (auction house) are in the buildings around the Renaissance Center (on the west side).
Get a Block power. It doesn't need to be your first thing to get, but you will use block a lot and some of the secondary effects are nice (I use ebon void which gives me energy back).
You can change instance by clicking on the zone name above the minimap. Useful to join a friend or stay away from disrespectful players.
Don't be a jerk, play nice. If you see someone fighting mobs by a quest objective don't swoop in and steal the objective. If you see someone waiting around the same spot as you for a NPC, invite them to team, you'll both get credit. If you prefer soloing, you don't have to say anything and you can leave the team right after the kill. If you're feeling generous, you can also invite someone who appears to be after the same NPC AFTER you've started the fight with said NPC.

You have my heartfelt appreciation for starting this thread; it's already helped me a lot.
My advice: When choosing a quest reward, try to pick items in your crafting field unless it's a significant stat upgrade. You won't be able to trade these items, so you might as well get skill-ups out of them.
Also, if you make another character, choose a different crafting field so you can pass any Bind on Equip items between characters with the UNTIL mail system.

Right click on the power and it will bring up the Power Menu, where you can change the color, from there you are able to change the emination point. Someone correct if I'm wrong though please.
Edit: Someone beat me to it :)
Also for researching it's sometimes good to look for rewards that, if you know you don't need any of them, are the same field your crafting, that way you can just break it down right away.

Super Villain = About 4x henchman life. Friends are nice to bring along, one of your friends being Block

- You can transfer items to your alts by sending a mail to yourself, using a UNITY terminal. There's one at the dropship in the desert and Canada, and several at the Renessaince Center in Millennium City.
- You can buy consumable heals next to the tailor in the desert. They cost just 9 resources each and go in stacks of 4.
- Remember to collect your reward after a public mission. Look for the 'public mission icon' in the actual world which you can click.
- Some items have an activated ability. The "Gunslinger's Legacy" reward you get from the cowboy ghost town is a 6-shooter that fires around 10 shots in a large aoe.
- If a power seems useless on paper, try it out. They might have a surprising advantage like instant cast, no cooldown, or no energy cost.

Research tips:
Click the research tab and then click on the window. You should see a list of all items in your inventory that you can research at that time. Click one item off of the list and then repeat the process to increase the quality bar at the bottom. My research experience has shown that the closer to 5/5 you get, the higher your chance for an insight or epiphany. Multiple 2 star items can get that to a 4/5 or 5/5.
Before purchasing the craft level increase, work on getting as many of the special items as possible. For example: It seems to be easier to craft and research skill 85 items for the Science: Slight Epiphanies with a max skill of 100 then it is at a skill of 200. Your overall skill level seems to factor into the level of the items you are researching. For me, the higher skill has given a better yield of components but I am seeing less of the epiphanies needed to purchase the special blueprints.

Explore every zone, sometimes theres interesting little hidden things like the destroid heads in tutorial or the cowboy hat ontop of the statues in the desert(this one gives a perk aswell).
Definitely remember to Block, block, block....oh and block.
Some missions may seem easy at first, but can become very tough if your not prepared for whats around the next corner, so try to get a quick view of the area first before heading in, especially in open zones.

You can deconstruct up to four items at a time. Each item added will increase the ratings bar at the bottom. You are more likely to gain insight from a 5/5 rating. You are also more likely to get a major success which equates to more skill points and more resources returned.
You will occassionally gain skill points by making items or harvesting nodes, but the best way to gain skill points is by major successes in deconstructing. The ratings on deconstruction seem to be tied to the amount of resources that can be yielded, so the best way to gain skill points is not to make as many items as possible with your current resources, but rather to make the biggest items you can and deconstruct them.
Quest items from your profession tend to yield high ratings, so whenever possible select quest rewards from your profession.
You can toggle your auto attack to always on by going to options>controls. I found it helpful for melee as when you are surrounded you dont have to worry about your auto attack stopping when you switch targets.
This one may just have been me, but autorun didnt work for me originally. When I went into keybinds it showed numlock was autorun. However, since it didnt work, I rebound autorun to numlock, and it came back as bound to pause, but now autorun works when i press numlock... *shrug*

Wow didn't even think to try this, great to know that I can now get 5/5 instead of just getting the 2s and 3s that sometimes come up on low level Items.
This thread is a great wealth of knowledge.
Also I'd say it'd be a good idea to pick a nice Block power too, Look at all of them as many do different things(Such as adding energy, or giving a bonus to the next attack & returning damage to the mob)
Don't forget you need to replace your old block as it doesn't always "auto place" it over your initial blocking power.

1. If you're flying slow, land and full charge your travel power to get to max speed quicker.
2. You can save any custom keybinds to a file by using /bind_save_file c:\championsbinds.txt and then load them into a different character with /bind_load_file c:\championsbinds.txt
3. If you're waiting for a spawn and someone swoops in and takes it before you can fire a shot, he's really sorry.

I click on the Champions "C" on the mini-map, select Powers, and the powers that will allow you to change emanation points will have a drop-down menu to the right of the power's name, right under the color box.
Thanks for the info.

- Help your fellow heroes. If you see someone in trouble and out numbered and you can toss a quick attack in or pull a henchman....do it. Don't steal MOBs or quest rewards. Some people will be upset by this but I'd rather have a couple of henchman off my back than be defeated.
- If you melee, get an Xbox 360 controller. The ability to rapidly circle opponents and the quick block using both triggers is invaluable. I have fairly equal luck with keyboard and controller using ranged combat but all melee builds cry out for the gamepad. Trust me. You will feel quick and mighty.
- Say thank you.
- Take your time. Kill everything. Be a hero. Not only will you get steady XP but you will get interesting missions, item drops and steadily hone your skills.
-Almost any combination of powers can work. Practice. Learn. Just because someone screams your build is "gimped!!" on the board doesn't mean it is. I use Single Blade as my primary and I think I'm consistently one of the toughest heroes at my level. Took practice and careful allotment of secondary abilities and powers.
-Your motto? Fun. If you want to create a Zombie Clown DJ who has two pistols and telekinesis....Do it! Having a 'powerful' build means nothing if you don't have a smile on your face each time you look at your hero.
And if you see Doctor Samurai in game I'll always take time out to help. Just ask.

If you click the Crime Computer after you level up, you can spend your various points on powers etc, with out having to go to a Powerhouse... But you don't get the free respec option.
That no longer works, it was recently patched out :-(
But to add to the thread:
- Look at what upgrades travel powers can give you. IE Swinging has an upgrade called "Flippin'" That will increase your dodge if Swinging is enabled. Real good for those that also take Lightning Reflexes Passive.
- Melee auto-attacks come with a 'ranged aggro' I think its called "Marked" or "Marking". So basically you can target a mob from farther away and use your Melee Energy Builder to gain aggro from out of melee range. This was put in balance out the fact that ranged can start getting energy from, well.. Range..
This thread has taught me a lot too, several things I didn't know.

Be aware of coupling the correct research (Mysticism, Arms, Science) for your specific powers.
For instance I am playing a wizard type and have taken shadow spells as my 'focus'. So it was a 'no brainer' that I would choose Mysticism.
WRONG.
If you are taking Shadow Form which is the shadow set scaler you want as much CON and END as possible.
Science provides equipment that has both CON and END, Mysticism does not.

When flying\teleporting I actually open my world map so I can fly straight there (even though I can't see my character).
Press and hold both mouse buttons while flying and don't use WASD.
When Teleporting angle yourself slightly up so you can take in account of the slight drop you will take between TPs.
Pressing Space Bar and nothing else flies straight up.
In PvP select a Teammate and press 'V'. Now you will shoot at his target and together you might kill somone. Also useful in hard fights.

If you're on a PC, keybind block to one of your extra mouse buttons - it's much faster.
For Power Armor characters: Eye Beam takes next to no energy and can be maintained while you execute other attacks, it's not one or the other.
Be careful with knockback attacks while grouping with melee characters. Unless the melee guy is very low on health all you're doing is making them work harder to do their job.
Looting a crafting node grants a short term buff dependent on which crafting specialization you have:
Arms = Damage buff
Science = A heal over time.
Mysticism = ???(Haven't made a Mystic character yet)

To add to this:
Power Armor has abilities that fire from different parts (Chest, Shoulders and Hands) and you can fire one from each type SIMULTANEOUSLY. So you can start Eye beam, fire the Micro-Munitions and charge up your Power Gauntlet. It makes for an amazing display of firepower.

True for now, but don't rely too heavily on this - I can't see how this wouldn't be patched out, as I can't see how 0.3 energy per second is intended. (More in the spirit of advice rather than to start a flame war over powers :) )

Here is one very basic fundamental one: most powers have an "energy builder" and a "blast" of some sort that utilizes said energy. Don't forget to juggle between these, while fighting--in other words, keep blasting as soon as your energy is built up. (let alone energy needs for heals, etc etc...)
I'm sure 90% of us know this, but more than once, I have seen lowbies only using their primary "energy builder" power, without tossing in any blasts!

To start with this has been the most useful thread I have seen so far. Thaks! Next I found that in the OB Event whhen booted up to lvl 40 I took acrobatics for that extral travel power to go with Fire Flight that I already had. Since I was using a blade char and melee I found this power to be downright amazing for combat use, especially the charge/backflip away.
Also found Rocket Boots extremly useful as a flight power, themed but excellent if u get it.
The melee chars have ranged fast charge powers (great leaps into target from range with damage) that have been invaluable. Check em out they are fantastic as u can usually defeat one mob and hit the charge power and great leap (even at point blank range) and get the effect on the next mob targeted already with your auto-attack energy builder. Practice makes even a fumble finger like me (not a typist) pretty good in mass scrambled melee fights.
Get those healing pills from vendor that cost 9(copper?). I buy 12 in 4 stacks of 4 and use them regularly in battle. The aren't the greatest and need to be triggered when u start getting low but have won several Super Villain fights only with their help. New Player must haves.
A thread with great help and no flames...I am tagging this one full time. The help is coming from players from all levels, and I am grateful.

Roles can not be stressed enough. If you're grouping, you'll find things will be much easier if one player switches to Defensive while everyone else switches to Aggressive or Support. DO NOT use balanced while grouping.

I finally discovered, when I got to level 11, that the energy builder power under 1 is a toggle. Spamming 1 works, but it's far simpler to target an enemy, hit 1 to turn on the energy builder and press your main attacks whenever you have the energy. This is especially important if you have a fair amount of lag as you gain energy between your main attacks.

Check your inventory frequently. You will sometimes get an item that opens a new quest or quest line. It's sad to see a quest available that you never saw and is now grey.
Do the first crafting quest from any vendor, even if you don't plan to craft. You need the item to finish the first 'series'. While you are at it, make three extra small bags, you can hold 12 more items in your inventory for next to no cost.

While we're on the subject of energy builders, I prefer having it on "Toggle, never cease" in the control options. That way it stays toggled whenever I switch or defeat a target. Couple this with the "automatically target attackers" option, and your character will instantly switch targets and start firing when you kill something, without aggroing a passive mob. Really handy for minimizing downtime and getting the most out of your energy builder.

here is a newbie friendly stat guide,I've created, there is no new info in it,but I can't imagine my life without it:
INNATE STATISTICS:
There are infos here from various guides: Sarion (http://forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php?t=45402), Prime-8 (http://forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php?t=30182), Ghost_Hound (http://forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php?t=46096), also Ghost_Hound (http://forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php?t=46093), Rune (http://forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php?t=30670)
Thanks for these guys :)
Are the effects of the stats correct? Is there any more? Please help!
These STAT benefits are the same for everyone, regardless of Powers or Superstats.
In this game Framework means group or category, it only describes which panel you can select it from
at power selection. It does not have to do anything with stats, apart from a few exceptions
where it is noted. Also staying in 1 framework makes it easier to get access to higher
Tier powers in the same framework, but that rarely means actually better power,
most of the time you can select an equally interesting or useful power from
another framework on the same Tier.
O/B pps = Can be slotted in an Offensive or Balanced passive power slot (Slotted Passive)
D/B pps= Can be slotted in an Defensive or Balanced passive power slot (Slotted Passive)
B = Blocking power
DoT = Damage over Time
EB = Energy Building Power, You can only take one.
RD = Ranged Damage Power
CC = Close Combat Power
SDF = Self Damage Buff
IP = Innate Passive, this power does not need to be slotted in order to function (it is always on)
PU/T = Pick Up and Throw
(=> +STAT) = this STAT also have a role when this power is in effect
(/+STAT) = HUGELY recommended STAT by players instead of base Framework STAT
(Framework) = In this game NOT IMPORTANT, apart from Munitions(only for Killer Instinct power) and for faster Tier advancing, (not really important as at level 40 you will have 36 power points and in 1 Framework there is only 10-15 powers which you will not use the half of it anyway from the same Framework as they are not all too exciting or useful for you)
Still don't over do this infinitely, and be careful (as always, lol), although from level 26 you can choose any power from any framework. (Confirmation?)
Don't forget, any of the pps (although you can have as many as you want) you can use only one at a time!
1. Strength - (Might(+CON), Power Armour(+INT), Martial Arts(+DEX)) "Physical Melee + Pick Up Items"
* Increases Knockback strength for ALL powers that have knockback effect.
* Increases resistance to Knockback.
* Increases ability to break from tangible holds.
* Increases melee damage (excluding Ego Blades, but including Laser Sword).
* Increases the weight that can be lifted by "Pickup and Throw" ability.
* In Invulnerability (D/B pps), it resist all damage from attacks based on your STR, maxed out complete damage resisting about 100-ish from each damage. Perfect against many small hits. (Power
Armor), (=> +CON)
* Using Enrage(SDF) each stack of Enraged increases all damage dealt for a short time. (Might) Does this work on its own without Invulnerability?
2. Constitution - (Might(+STR), Telekinesis(+EGO/+END), Darkness(+END), Supernatural(+REC))
* Increases hitpoints.
* In Invulnerability (D/B pps) after the initial damage reduction the damage is reduced further,
based on CON. Perfect against many small hits. (Power Armor), (=> +STR)
* In Ego Form (O/B pps), it reduces all incoming physical damage. (Telekinesis), (=> +END)
* In Defiance (D/B pps), it increases defense gained at each of its 3 stacks. Works well with Enrage power. Irrelevant to CON, using Defiance converts damage to energy. Confirm? (Might)
* In Regeneration(D/B pps) Regeneration heals based on total hitpoints, so higher Con indirectly improves Regeneration. Weak at the start of a fight, but gets stronger in power as a character continually takes damage. Supernatural Framework has a "Health Surge" power, which is a strong self heal that can seriously save your butt as a panic button, but using it resets your regeneration's efefctiveness as it was at the beginning of the start. (Supernatural)(+REC)
* Resurgence(Self Heal) Increases healing per pulse from Regeneration as if you had just taken a significant amount of damage. Without Regen slotted it works as an instant heal only. (Supernatural)Amount of instant heal if no Regen slotted? Is CON play any part if no Regen slotted?
3. Ego - (Force(+END), Munitions(+DEX), Telekinesis(+CON), Telepathy(+Presence)) "For High Crit and Telekinesis-Power/Ego Form"
* Increases critical strike damage.
* Increases ability to break from intangible holds.
* Ego does NOT universally improve the strength or duration of holds. Dev comment. (http://forums.champions-online.com/showpost.php?p=862970&postcount=3)
* In Personal Force Field (D/B pps) slowly regens the amount of damage. The speed of the regen
scales with your EGO. (Force), (=> +END)
* In Killer Instinct (IP) the amount of energy returned scales with EGO.
(Works ONLY with Munitions), (=> Activation based on DEX)
* Using Telekinesis power (PU/T) it increases the size of objects that can be lifted and damage
done by throwing instead of of STR. (Telekinesis, but any build using this power benefits the same way)
After the 04-Sept-2009 test server patch: (http://forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php?p=955353#post955353)
* In Ego Form (O/B pps) an additional damage increase for Id Blade attacks scales with your EGO.
(Telekinesis), ( => +CON)
* In Ego Surge(Self Damage Buff) the damage increase for Id Blade attacks scales with your EGO. (Telekinesis)
* All Ego Blade Attacks (CC) Damage dealt by Id Blades scales based on your EGO. (Telekinesis)
4. Recovery - (Electricity(+END), Fire(+PRE), Ice(+DEX), Supernatural(+CON))
* Increases Energy Equilibrium
* Increases Energy gained from Energy Building attacks.
* In Electric Form (O/B pps), it increases your resistance to all energy effects and greatly
increases your resistance to electricity effects. (Electricity), (=> +END)
* In Fiery Form (O/B pps), it increases your resistance to all elemental effects and greatly
increases your resistance to fire effects. (Fire), (=> +PRE)
* In Regeneration(D/B pps) it improves the regeneration rate, confirmed by a developer on 2nd of Sept '09 (http://forums.champions-online.com/showpost.php?p=912029&postcount=15) (Supernatural) (+CON)
5. Dexterity - (Ice(+REC), Archery(+INT), Munitions(+EGO), Martial Arts(+STR)) "The Often Crit Hit"
* Increases critical strike chance.
* Increases effectiveness of stealth powers.
* In Ice Form (O/B pps) it increases your resistance to all elemental effects and greatly increases
your resistance to ice effects. (Ice), (=> +END)
* Holdout Pistol (RD) deals 100% increased damage with a critical hit (Munitions)
* Killer Instinct (IP) returns energy each time you land a critical hit with a munitions power.
(Works ONLY with Munitions), (=> +DEX)
* Lightning Reflexes (D/B pps) Increases dodge and avoidance scaled by your DEX. Good against Boss and charged attacks much less effective against the small fast attacks. (Martial Arts)
6. Intelligence - (Archery(+DEX), Gadgeter(+END), Power Armour(+STR), Sorcery(+PRE)) "Energy Maintaining Builds and Summoners"
* Reduces Energy costs.
* Reduces cooldown times.
* Increases Pet damage.
* Increases stealth detection.
7. Presence - (Fire(+REC), Telepathy(+EGO), Sorcery(+INT)) "The Healer"
* Increases threat in Defensive role.
* Decreases threat in Offensive and Support roles.
* Increases Pet health.
* Increases Healing and Buffing effects.
* In Fiery Form (O/B pps) it increases all of your elemental (fire, ice, toxic) damage.(Fire), (=> +REC)
* Empathic Healing(Maintained healing) Continuously heals target while maintained. If there is no target, you will heal yourself. Scales with your PRE.(Telepathy)
* Psionic Healing (Charged Healing). If there is no target, you will heal yourself. Scales with your PRE.(Telepathy)
* Mindful Reinforcement (Damage Shielding Power) Your target will absorb damage into self healing. (Telepathy)
* Ego Sprites with Advantage Slave Mentality (Close Area Effect Ego DoT) Ego Sprites will return to you after damaging the enemy and heal you for a short time. Source: Scales with PRE (http://forums.champions-online.com/showpost.php?p=930948&postcount=67). Confirmation? (Telepathy)
8. Endurance - (Electricity(+REC), Force(+EGO), Gadgeter(+INT), Darkness(+CON)) "Ego Blade user"
* Increases maximum Energy.
* Increases Energy gained by Energy Building attacks.
* In Electricity Form (O/B pps), it increases all of your energy (electricity, sonic, particle) damage.
(Electricity), (=> +REC)
* Personal Force Field (D/B pps) absorbs an amount of damage from each attack that hits you.
The amount absorbed scales with your END. PFF make you very tough at the start of a fight, but weaker and far less tough as a fight drags on, but Field Surge Power counteracts this weakness. The Force Bolt advantage Energy Refraction gives a 10% change to proc a 100 strength Field refresh, and it will give you this even in offence role for up to 12 secs. Confirmation? (Force), (=> +EGO)
* In Ice Form (O/B pps), it increases all of your elemental (fire, ice, toxic) damage. (Ice), (=> +DEX)

My one and only top for new players to Champions Online:
Have fun with the game. Create as many characters as you wish, for the customization in the game is nearly endless. Experiment with different powers and combination's and take your time to explore the games content and mechanics. In the end, have fun with the game. Don't try to rush it, your character will become powerful and mighty over time.

What was the the tip that you learned that made you go: "Dang, if only I had known that 10 levels ago!"
Just one: Be very very sure of which powers you want. Respeccing is very expensive right now.
If you have the option of choosing multiple items at once, choose the ones you are SURE you will stick with first. Because the farther back the powers/talents/whatever are in your build, the more expensive it will be to change them.
Respeccing a power you just took is free, until you exit power building. There are several rooms in that building that let you test powers to see if you like them. Use them. When you exit the building, your choices are locked in, and it will be expensive to change them.
The DEVs have said they plan on lowering the costs of respeccing, but who knows when that will happen or by how much. I had a level 11 character that I simply deleted and started over because it was easier and faster than getting the cash to respec him from level 1. Thats how bad it is.

Ahhh, "Patchday Nightmares" returns with a vengeance. The bane of every MMO since the dawn of the genre. Perhaps a good tip would be "Avoid playing on patchday/launchday. Spend the time reading the forums instead."
As if I had any other choice.

awesome stuff!!!
my advice to new people: dont listen to the crybabies, and dont become one yourself. theres thousands of other people playing, and your mileage may differ, so dont ruin someone elses experience because you dont like the game or what they did in the patch, etc :rolleyes:
and if you simply must whine about something, at least do it in a constructive way(WHY do you hate this or that, WHY are you still playing, etc)...dont just rant like its gonna get you somewhere. if you want conflict, watch the news or something..
also: when people are shouting for help, whether youve done the mission or not, help them!!!
its a good way to make friends, and they can always return the favor ;)
hope this helps:D

Something I learned:
Supervillains are Supervillains for a reason. If the quest doesn't say you need a team to take down a supervillain in their own homestead, be cautious and take at least one friend. If anything but to soak up the damage for ya :D . Learned that the hard way fighting Medusa!
Some enemies have abilities that can make a battle go from somewhat simple to "OH CRAP!" in the matter of seconds.

I might add this in case it's news to anyone at this point, be sure to save your costume when you are playing in the editor, as you might want to rebuild your powers, change names, etc and this saves you time on rebuilding.

Just wanted to point this out, in case no one else has. As part of your minimap UI after you have selected your focus for crafting there will be a button on the lower left hand side of the minimap that you can use to toggle a map marker for caches you can use to pick up elements for your crafting focus.
As an example I have arms as my focus and it will put a marker in my map whenever I am in the vincinity of an arms cache. This is really helpful to pick up some quick parts you can use for crafting. And in addition I would also recommend that everytime you see the marker pop up on your mini screen take a few minutes out of your travels to stop defeat the guards defending the cache and get yourself some easy to gain parts to craft with. :D
Ah was beaten to the punch. Oh well

One thing I like to do at character creation is go forward and get rid of that dang mask. I can't see the guys face with that thing on (wish they would remove it).
You can design your toon completely and go all the way back and change his powers, face, build, etc, the design will stay there.

A few more questions from me (sorry if I missed them anywhere here)...
1. How do you get additional costume slots?
2. I've only teamed once, with other first time teamers, and frankly none of us had any idea what to do. How do you select a mission to share etc? Advice on starting and managing teams would be much appreciated - not so much how to behave in a team, but physically what to click to get and share missions, plus any restrictions.
3. Are any sample builds posted anywhere yet?
I was also going to ask about the location of auction houses and things, plus how to find additional missions as I think I've run out in Canada, but these seem to have been answered here, so thanks again.

A few more questions from me (sorry if I missed them anywhere here)...
1. How do you get additional costume slots?
You get one at start (of course) and one at level 15 IIRC and you will get one when you join/form a SuperGroup. As far as any others, I'm not sure, I'm an altaholic so I have six or so characters in the early teens.. lol

Hit 'L' then click the 'Active' tab. At the bottom right of the menu there will be a 'Share' button you can click if you highlight a mission. I'm not sure how close or if you have to be in the same instance to share the mission though.
3. Are any sample builds posted anywhere yet?

1. Wrong slot, Araneae. ;) I'm not quite sure how the extra costume slots are unlocked, but so far I have 3 on my main. One arrived via some perk unlock I think, and the 3rd came with the formation of my Supergroup.
2. So far, aside from sharing missions (which is limited to proximity, and certain missions can't be shared if they are part of a chain and team members haven't finished the prereq steps), you can set a mission as primary which I believe makes the mission area yellow/gold on the mini map for all team members (if they have it), and you can also double click the mini-map to set a waypoint for the mission, which appears as a red "x" on their maps (but sometimes not quite where the quest is actually located, go figure).
3. I believe there are quite a few, check this forum: http://forums.champions-online.com/forumdisplay.php?f=96

Standard enemy Health Bars are segmented. Henchmen have 1 segment, Villains have 2 segments, etc. These segments are all the same. So if you do 20% of a Henchman's health in one attack, that same attack will do 20% of one of the Villain's segments, too.

I've had experiences that differ from this, with damage being less effective against higher "ranked" enemies (Villains, AVs, etc.). I imagine this stems from better defensive values?

Definitely remember to Block, block, block....oh and block.
Some missions may seem easy at first, but can become very tough if your not prepared for whats around the next corner, so try to get a quick view of the area first before heading in, especially in open zones.

Good list of stuff (some stuff I didn't know) but there are some stuff missing/wrong
1) The items to buy some crafting recipes (such as Slight Insights) are acquired by deconstructing equipment (maybe only 5 star items?) - Tagax
2) Changing a power's emanation point - click on the Champions "C" on the mini-map, select Powers, and the powers that will allow you to change emanation points will have a drop-down menu to the right of the power's name, right under the color box. - chocobochicken
3) Difficulty of mobs, from easy to hard: Henchman, Villain, Master Villain, Super Villain, Cosmic(?) - Neberu
1) You can get insights etc (Crafting currency) from breaking down anything chance of getting one increases with number of stars, you can combine lesser items on deconstructing screen until you hit 5 stars, worth while doing (just dont put in a 5 star item with any other items as your wasting XP/insights).
2) to get to power screen to change colour/point of origin just press P on keyboard.
3) Correct but you missing one its in order of weakest to toughest, Henchman, Villain, Master Villain, Super Villain, Legendary and Cosmic.
Cosmic are the hardest creeps in game.

Well, since you are stuck with these for your entire life of your character and without an abso-tremendous-lutly high retcon price you have no chance to change it, you might know what you've bargained for!
Special Advantages of the Energy Building Powers:
Electric Bolt - Electricity - Ranged Electrical Damage - Chance for attack to arc to secondary target doing single target electrical damage.
Chance of applying Negative Ions, a short duration effect which causes future Electrical attacks to arc to secondary targets. If the secondary target is hit you receive a burst of Energy.
Lightning Overload - Grants Electric Bolt a chance to jump to another target on every attack and not just the initial double handed attack.
Throw Fire - Ranged Fire Damage - Increased chance to apply Clinging Flames dealing damage over time to the target. Other powers may also take advantage of the Clinging Flames.
Burning Desire - Gives your Throw Fire power a chance to chain into an additional target. This second shot does not generate energy, but has a chance to light the target aflame.
Force Bolts - Force - Ranged Crushing Damage - Initial attack has a chance to knockback.
Energy Refraction - Your Force Bolt attacks have a chance to create a shield around you which lasts for up to 12 seconds and absorbs a modest amount of damage.
Ice Shards - Ice - Ranged Cold Damage - Chance to apply Chill, slowing the target's movement. Other powers may also take advantage of the Chill condition.
Ice Impaler - Ice Shards has a significantly increased critical hit chance.
Strafe - Archery - Maintained Ranged Piercing Damage
Aversion - Strafe has a chance to increase your dodge ability.
Sonic Blaster - Gadgeteering - Maintained Ranged Sonic Damage
Refraction Of Sound - Changes the Sonic Blaster power to deal damage in a Cone instead of to only a single target.
Gun Slinger - Munitions - Ranged Piercing Damage
Trick Shot - 10% (100% while Enraged) chance to hit an additional target within 30 feet. The additional target takes double damage if they are Feared.
Wrist Bolter - Power Armor - Maintained Ranged Particle Damage
Automated Assault - Changes the Wrist Bolter power to function as a Hand Slot. Wrist Bolter does not generate energy while other powers are in use.
Rain Of Steel - Dual Blades - Melee Cone Slashing Damage
Grinning Ghost - Rain Of Steel has a chance to put you into a focused state.
Hawk's Talons - Claws - Melee Slashing Damage
Peerless Predation - Hawk's Talons has a chance to put you into a focused state.
Reaper's Touch - Single Blade - Melee Slashing Damage
Three Edged Blade - Reaper's Touch has a chance to put you into a focused state.
Righteous Fists - Unarmed - Melee Crushing Damage
Drunken Master - Righteous Fists has a chance to put you into a focused state.
Kinetic Dart - Telekinesis - Ranged Ego Damage - Chance to apply Shock, holding the target in place.
Incisive Wit - Kinetic Darts have a chance to activate an Ego Surge. Ego Surge increases your paranormal damage, transforms your Ego Weaponry into dual Id Blades increasing the damage of those powers, assists in breaking out of any holds affecting you and counts as an Energy Form.
Psi Lash - Telepathy - Maintained Ranged Ego Damage
Psychic Reverberations - Psilash has a chance to debuff the ego resistance of your target.
Clobber - Might - Melee Slashing Damage
Sucker Punch - Grants your Clobber attack a 25% chance to inerrupt your target on each attack. This cannot occur more than once every second.
Shadow Bolt - Darkness - Ranged Dimensional Damage - Chance to apply Fear, causing the enemy to cower in your presence and reducing the damage they deal.
Despondency - Decrease targets dodge by 10% for 10 seconds. Additionally, all Shadow Bolt attacks now have a 15% chance to apply Fear (instead of only the opening attack).
Eldritch Bolts - Sorcery - Ranged Magic Damage - Initial attack has a chance to root the target.
Wizard's Discretion - Eldritch Bolts have a chance to apply Binding of Aratron, holding your target.
Bestial Fury - Supernatural - Melee Slashing Damage
Rip And Tear! - Bestial Fury attacks now have a 10% (20% while Enraged) chance to cause the enemy to begin Bleeding.

One thing I want to advise people on too is that this is an open skill system game. Unlike games like WoW and a lot of other major MMOGs that are class based, you are locked into very little. Class based games are easier to advance in from the standpoint of not making mistakes or not having synergy, because the developers can balance specific groups of skills against each other. Even in a game like WoW where they have skill trees you really only have a limited number of choices.
Here you could be on your 4th power selection and have scores of different powers to choose from. So it is possible to get it wrong, or not get the right synergy. There is no built in fail safe like with a class system, where you know when you pick a class you are going to have a minimum level of functionality regardless of what you as a player do.
In an open skill system that base level relies on the choices you make. So keep that in mind. Making thoughtful power choices is MUCH more important in a game like this because there is no fallback or basic functionality that you have in a class system.

One other thing is to use the terrain.
One thing I try to do a lot now is since I use a big charge up attack a lot is to move into LOS charge it up and let it fly, but as soon as I fire I move back behind cover. Once the shot hits, then I can move back out and fire again. This reduces the amount of damage I end up taking.
Also if you have objects or doorways you can often maneuver to limit how many opponents can get to you at once.
Even a big object in the middle of a room can be used as you slide around it and cut off angles and limit multiple opponents from hitting you.

I got a tip for all the new players here..
If you see a person attacking mobs that were surrounding a NPC that is required for a quest, don't be a total douchebag and run up taking the NPC credit when the other person is clearing it. They're not clearing the mobs just for you. I had this happen WAY too many times.. same goes with mobs that set down bombs that need to be disarmed for quests. Seriously, if you see a player attacking these mobs, don't be a jerk and run up taking the quest credit!

Got another one.. dunno if it's been mentioned but..
don't overlook the fact you can lift up practically everything and throw it. As you level your strength will increase and soon you'll be lifting cars and such, the heavier the object the more damage it does, and most huge objects will kill a henchman in one hit. I usually bring a car to a fight and launch it as my initial attack.

Don't know if this was mentioned yet, but you can *really* use crafting to your advantage by simply picking up the various nodes around the world. Each one gives a specific buff. Science nodes give a heal over time, mystic nodes give energy over time, and arms nodes give a damage boost. The best part is you can share these buffs with strangers or teammates by having them stand near the node when it "explodes" in that colored bubble. I duo with my friend so we almost always both have health and energy regen running.
The most OP of the three, in my opinion, is science because it basically gives you a small version of regeneration that you don't have to use a power choice on. So you could take a different defensive (or an offensive) slotted power and get a constant stream of healing. This would of course still stack with regen too! It's worth taking the time to find a node to pick up if you're about to do a challenging mission. So if you find yourself having survival difficulties, take science as your crafting focus and grab nodes as often as you can!

OK, 2 characters to 20 and I didn't know this! :o

Some auction house stuff I discovered yesterday.
The search is a little quirky (as in, broken), and works a lot better if you clear the level filter. Every time you open up the AH, it will say 1-50. Backspace it.
Searching for keywords should now work, and is a great way to buy (cheap!) weapon unlocks and bags. The 16-slot bags will come up if you search for "tessellated", "large utility", or "great medicine". Most of them don't have a level requirement, and you can find them pretty easily for 1 gold - less if you are patient and check periodically.
If you are a munitions user, go ahead and try "rifle", "flame", "mini", "pistol", "smg", and so on. I got my flamethrower for 2 silver this way, along with a ton of other unlocks I'd never seen before.
This is a little more tricky for swords and such since melee weapons and bows often don't have a common name, you just have to know about the specific names to search for.

I see a lot of people around NPCs in situations like that and I always send group invites to those people. Then you all help the NPC together and can just disband after that if you feel like it.
A lot of people ignore my invites and just steal the NPC out from under me though. That's how it goes I guess.

After you choose your crafting field, there will be a new button in the lower right corner of your mini-map. Clicking this button will turn on a feature to show crafting components nodes (weapons boxes, satellites, magical obelisks, etc.) on your mini-map. Surprisingly, this feature is not turned on by default. - Aidalyn
The above is now obsolete thanks to a recent update. The resources appear on the minimap by default now, though you can change the minimap icon display settings through one of the minimap buttons.

This is such a great post. I knew i was getting a buff for some reason but was never able to figure it out.
I've started announcing locally when i'm about to grab a node, so that anyone near by can just run up and grab a quick buff. I try to run near other people who seem to be interacting with a node as well so i can pick up that buff. This is really a great way to keep your energy/health up.

No, not in-game damage, but the first post is bulging with good info, so much so that we've hit the 12000 character max. I'll look to do some editing, to make way for your tips!
(LOL, edited because "t-r-i-m-m-m-i-n-g" got censored.)

If that's still constrictive, the alternative is to recreate this in a new thread and claim the first few posts for yourself. Then you have room to spread them out past the character limit. If you edit the original post with the link for the new one, people will find it. Then you can ask a mod to close this one and let the new one take its place.

This.
And, to all of you new players, consider going the extra mile: Invite the person clearing the mobs to team up! You can interact with NPC (or object) while the other player clears the enemies and you both get credit. Simply leave the team as soon as you're done. You'll be a hero, which ultimately is what this is supposed to be about! ;)

Ok...I just spent the last hour reading this whole thread. Thanks for all the great info everyone!!!
Looks like I'll be re-rolling my 4 toons soon...maybe tonight. Not that big a deal since they're all only level 6.
But this time I'll pay more attention to my choices!!!

It's unfortunate how easy it is to take a wrong-footed path in character development. Luckily, as you said, the first few levels are quick.
Make sure you check to see if you have a free respec on your hero before completely starting over, especially if any of the toons were rolled prior to Sept 10. :eek:

The controls for the Swinging travel power aren't obvious to everyone at first. Press and hold the space bar in mid-jump to fire your cable; release the space bar to release your cable. Rinse and repeat.

I haven't kept up with this thread so I apologize if the following is redundant:
Crafting gathering nodes out in the wild (the chests, crates, backpacks you find) all grant buffs to you and anyone nearby.
Arms: damage buff
Science: healing buff
Mysticism: idk, never rolled one :)
When in doubt when you are starting out go arms. Nobody has ever complained about extra damage. If you learn more and decide something else is more appropriate for your toon it is relatively easy to change and regrind prior to level 20.

a quick question, which i will ask here, to avoid creating a topic for this issue:
is it or will it be possible to send money to our alts and toons somehow ?

I imagine it will be at some point, but for the moment, if you happen to belong to a supergroup (and they've set it so you can do so), you can use the SG vault at the bank to exchange resources.

In the power house, in the item description in the right half of picking powers, there is a "Show Advanced Description" link at the bottom of the normal description. This will tell you all the important details (the numbers that show up in yellow in its tooltip once you have it). It's a weird teal color so I didn't notice it until just the other day.

I tipped a cow once. Is that anything like tipping a noob?
also, as for a tip, my suggestion is to try anything and everything at least once. You never know when you might find something you really like (a few people did this with swinging, I did it with super speed as well). The advantages can drastically change a power. I didn't care for shiruken throw until I got the advantage. Same for ice wall.

Yep, best thread on the forums that I've found so far. I'm 4 days into the game and loving it. I think I have found at least 5 or 6 things so far in this thread that will be used/attmpted/tried as soon as I log back in. Many thx to all the posters.:) I do have one question that I can't seem to find a reference to if you don't mind...What is the significance of the item colors? If I am struggling with "is this an upgrade or a trade-off of stats" type of questions, can I go by the color to indicate item level or worth? Thx in advance!!

I used to have a reference for this, but can't seem to find it. I will edit my post if I come across it. However the item order of precedence is:
White
Green
Yellow
Blue
Purple
You will also notice that Offense, Defense, and Utility pieces share the same background color to easily identify those items. Meaning, all defense pieces have a red background on those items (for example).This makes indentifying these pieces a lot easier, and to know which slot it will go in with a glance.

Etiquette, decorum, chivalry, fair play: all very welcome and considerate. Don't worry about being cut out of a deal so much because you'll get a lot of drops/loot along the way.

Hi, i'm a new superhero :p
i have a couple of questions:
-So there are no stats that increases directly spell damage?
it says presence increase damage but only in fiery form
Can i use fiery form even if i've not chosen fire framework at beginning? i mean, what exactly is fiery form? is an energy form to activate like shadow form?
reading above it looks like there are no stats that increases my spell damage except the fiery form bonus.
So do i have to look to abilities and higher spell ranks only to get higher numbers? (eg. shadowform or rank 2 of my main damage spell)
-Where i can find detailed info about roles? i've seen it change my presence, my hp and sentinel doubles my equilibrium, but i would like to know exactly what it does also to my damage and other stuff, with numbers eventually, i've found this thread (http://forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php?t=86678) only, it there any more detailed info about it?
thanks

wait did i say BLOCK
yep yep yep and your right.
One thing I find usfull now is the order that you spend points. Like after recons.
If you know 4 sure that you want teleport pick it early. If you know for sure you want to SS DEX pick it early. Then spend points at the end that you want to test out in PLAY.
Cheaper to undo and redo.
