No this game is not free 2 play. It costs about $50 to buy the game and then you have a monthly subscription fee to play it.

The game is $50, and each month is an additional $15.

This game is not free, and I do not see why it should be.
Next time do a search before making a new thread.

Think of it like this. You can download a game demo. But you have to buy the game to play it fully,
This is an MMO. in the same way as Warhammer Online or City of Heroes, or oldies but goodies such as Dark Age of Camelot. Each of those had the beta period like this game did. Each of those games because subscription to play games, like this one has.
Just because there's other free to play games out there, doesn't mean this one will be. On that note i suggest you perhaps try and find a free to play that you enjoy, instead of complaining about this one as it's not going to change because you want to play for free. I'm guessing you're still at school and don't yet understand how 'wages' work for employees.
Free to play games make their money through advertising. Games such as Dark Age of Camelot, Warhammer Online, City of Heroes and Champions Online make their money through subscribers.

Unfortunately that's the way things roll with games like this. It would simply be too expensive to run the game on Cryptics end if they didnt ask for a subscription :(. There are plenty of others out there that are Free to play mind.

No, this is not Runes of Magic (just to mention one). Not everybody must like that model of business. And which is better... ask Blizzard about it. Surely they love theirs.

Well, i for one explained it to him/her, hopefully without it reading 'mean'ly.
<sarcasm mode on>
But given in this day and age 7 yr old kids are brainer with DVD remotes and DS's than grown men in their 30's are, I submit that technically he/she should know better. :D

http://www.champions-online.com/ Start here and read the pre-order information.
This shows you the price for the box with the retail release final game version..
IT also says First 30 days are included in the price.. There is also a section that shows the price if you sign up for a 6 month and one year subscription..
Cryptic is a California USA Company located in Los Gatos, near San Francisco.. So look at the
Worldtimezone.com for time conversions for any server outages for maintenance..
Open Beta was a free sample of part of the game.. The retail final version is the full files and documents..

What? I didn't say they should pay you.. L2Sarcasm please. In any case, you can play. You just have to pay for it, it's the same with pretty much every other A-List MMORPG and tbh, Cryptic deserve the money.

Well I still didn't figure out what the costs by now will be.
I buy the game for 50$ ... after buying do I have a month free? Because I could also download the Client and take the monthly costs then. I won't buy the game for 50$ just for having a case and a DVD of it.
And afterwards I have to buy 6 months or lifetime? Didn't I hear something about prepaid cards (monthly or two month like WOW)?
I wantet to order it today, but if I haven't anything from buying the game in stores I wouldn't order it!

You also need an activation key, to create your account. You can't dodge those $50 by "downloading the client". And technically the first 30 days aren't free. They're included in the price of the game :p

So I buy the game and get 30 days to play! Am I understanding this right?
Afterwards I use prepaid cards or abo to play on. Right?
If I download the client directly and get the abo .. directly ... I have not to pay for the game. Thats what I meant.
Because If I buy the game for 50$ I Pay 50$ for playing 1 month. Or do I have to pay 50$ for 1 month even if I onlys download the client?
... I was on open Beta so the next thing to come to ask but not in here.

You pay fifty bucks for the game itself, or rather a retail key. You get a free month with it. Afterwards, you get billed for the subscription plan you will have chosen.

What is "abo"?
I really don't see where all the confusion is coming from.
You *must* purchase the $50 client. It doesn't matter if you walk into a "bricks n' mortar" store, or if you purchase the "digital download" from Direct2Drive (or wherever else might be offering it).
First, shalt thou take out thy wallet. Then shalt thou count to $50, no more, no less. $50 shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be $50. $40 salt thou not count, neither count thou $20, excepting that thou then proceed to $50. $60 is right out. Once the number $50, being the fifth number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy cash towards thy retailer, who being willing in my sight, shall trade it for a Champions Online retail box (or download), complete with retail key.
That all said, the retail package comes with "free" 30 days of game play. The monthly pricing, any "time cards", and the like aren't on the main web page (Really Cryptic? You can't "release" this information ONE DAY before the game is "officially" available to the masses?), so I can't tell you what options you'll have beyond the currently announced 6 month and lifetime subscriptions. I'm sure there is a Dev post somewhere that will have some information, though.
It would not surprise me at all if the game was $14.95 (or something *very close*, but not exactly $15) a month, like *every other* non free to play game that I've ever been in (DDO, which has a F2P *option*, but otherwise is $15 a month -- CoH/CoV, WoW, etc, etc).
Look at it this way -- assuming it is $15 a month to play Champions Online, you're paying $35 for the game and your first month of play at $15 = $50.
Bah -- wish I had today off so I could be home playing... :)
So I buy the game and get 30 days to play! Am I understanding this right?
Afterwards I use prepaid cards or abo to play on. Right?

once you buy the game, you have a free month to play, but if it's anything like WoW you have to provide information on your continuing method of payment before you can use that month. You can sign up for a Monthly payment, or other subscription plans. If you don't like the game after your free month, just cancel the subscription plan before it gets used.
Also, Even if you got a subscription plan going now and played the early start, you would still need a retail key to play AFTER the early start. You can get a retail key by buying the game in stores and getting it out of the box or buying it online and getting the key sent to you in an email.
